What Alex analyzed worried him. The pillars were somehow weakening as they moved out, the foundations below simply not strong. For some reason, it seems that the rocks ahead were eroded, rather than built; stalagmites form from the top with water with calcium dissolved in them and normally make the pillar larger and stronger. The pillars were getting larger ahead, but they were getting weaker at the same time...

The pillars aren't naturally made. That was the only logical conclusion.

King is moving from column to column, when one starts to wobble. "Woooaaaahhh," King says unsteadily. He looks back at the other two and says, "I don't like the feel of these. We should shimmy down and see what the bottom looks like."

"You go ahead, I don't know if I'll have the strength to come back up. If you do go down, come back to these pillars, they're more stable."

King nods. "I'll do my best. Please try to leave a light so I can see where to go if I need to come back up." King begins to shimmy down a pillar.

As he moves down, the light provided was slowly dimmed as the distance grew. Even with the light from Myzer. he still did not see the bottom.

Myzer hesitated. "You better catch this!" He yelled down. "Or we'll be very screwed!"

He grabbed King's torch from wherever it had been, and dropped it down to him.

As King was able to move down, both Mzyer and Alex are left with nothing to do at this rate.

Upon reaching the bottom, he could see the dark solid ground, small cracks evident from terraforming by some other creature. The pillars were at least a few days old, so it might not be around anymore.

King looks towards the peaks and yells, "You guys can come down now! The ground down here is solid, but I think something might be alive here. The ground is smooth."

(Sorry guys. I was busy today.)
The ground was comparatively more normal and solid, not perfectly smooth, but uniform for a good part. Now that they were below, the pillars looked more like walls.

And they heard a moving body not far away, the sounds of heavy footsteps.
