PokéPoetry! #3

Once again, PB writers, it's time for an exhilarating contest! We are excited to introduce a new style of contest - one that we've never done before. I don't want to espouse a bunch of superfluous jargon, so I'll cut to the chase. We are introducing a poetry contest. "Well, what do we have to do?" "What does this contest entail?" Simply, you must follow these rules, and we will explain.

Rules

I. You must reserve a post in this thread, detailing your chosen style of poetry. Example:

Code:
Username: William Shakespeare
Chosen style: Sonnet (Iambic Pentameter)

II. Once we acquire the list of names from your reserved posts, we will RANDOMLY assign a Pokémon with which you will create your freestyle poem.
  • Your poem must at least contain five lines to be accepted, with the sole exception being a haiku.
  • You must write your poem about that assigned Pokemon (you may not request for a change). Failure to do so will result in a disqualification.
  • Be descriptive!

III. Don't plagiarize; any instances of plagiarism will result in a disqualification from the contest and a ban.

IV. You will be able to choose up to three of your favorite poems during the judging phase. You will be able to either "like" the contestant's post or send a PM to [smod]Ice Arceus[/smod] with the name(s) of the contestant('s)/poem's title.

V. You may edit your poem until the voting phase begins.

VI. Please make sure you use proper spelling and grammar! Poems that fail to reflect this will be disqualified.

This contest will be very relaxed, and you will be given the opportunity to write your poem in any way you desire. For example, if you are assigned a dark, gloomy Pokemon like Mismagius, you are free to make your poem reflect upon that Pokemon's nature and type, or you may completely surprise us and write the complete opposite and incorporate the positives and playfulness of Mismagius. It's all up to you! A few examples of the types of poetry are as follows:
  • Free Verse
  • Blank Verse
  • Haiku
  • Sonnet
  • Epic
  • Limerick
  • Song (duh!)
And many, many more... (Google's your friend)

Important Dates

10/4 - Sign Ups begin.
10/9 - Sign Ups end and Pokémon are assigned.
10/18 - Entries for Round Two are due and voting begins.
10/21 - Voting ends and winners are announced!

A Tasty Encounter

The foe stands paralyzed
after a whip from the dexterous tongue.
Speechless, motionless, and striken with fear.
The gooey saliva trickles down, teaching the foe
not to mess with the one that tastes.

Cacnea,
You live in the desert
You and your friends love to flirt
Should you make love
And risk to stick
Each other with your Spikes
Or should you run
Your relationship will be done
The worst of two bads
You must endure
Until you go on a tour
You must be caught with a pokeball
Then you will see the world
You will see it all
Which one is your path
Which one will you choose
Before you do
Make sure you muse
Make a wise choice
But once you do
Only then can you rejoice

Traveling though the weather misbehaved
I second guessed entering mistralton cave

The air was cold and the rain bore down
And from the cave there wasn’t a sound

Shivering soaked I took my chance
Entered the cave and there at first glance

Stood a creature not much taller than my knee
Large sharp tusk were all I could see

It gave a light growl as I tried to hide my fear
As it came to the light I could see all its tears

And all of a sudden… I wasn’t afraid
So I got closer to the Axew I ran into that day

Saw one tusk broken bad as I began to get near
Touching it gently, I made my intention clear

With one firm pull I removed it with haste
And another tusk grew in, taking its place

It rubbed its head on my leg and let out a soft sigh
And from that day on, it never left my side

The Yellow-Flowered Troll
188.png

On a warming Johto Afternoon,
I journeyed with my Cydaquil
To a kid showing his pantaloons
And wanting to fight at will.
We battled to see the better trainer,
Cyndaquil versus Skiploom.
However my advantage was a no-brainer;
Fire beats a yellow-flowered, green-bodied bloom.
As I laugh, "Cynda" gets yellow
With the paralysis of a powder.
The greenish plant bounces with mellow
While the boy brags of his power.

His flying plant and pride made my Cyndaquil swoon,
So as we ran off, dignity aside, I shouted "Darn you, Skiploom!"

(Sorry for editing past the date, but I accidentally deleted the username and style. I didn't change the poem in any way).

A Pelipper's yellow and blue
and he has a lil' bit of white too
He can learn Surf and Fly
which is helpful, but I
wouldn't use him and neither should you.

RE: PokéPoetry! #3 (Sign Ups)

Sign ups end at 11:59 PM EST. I will begin to assign Pokemon in a few hours.

RE: PokéPoetry! #3 (Sign Ups)

Just a question: next time, are we going to be adding gen 6 Pokemon in the list of possibilities? Or we going to first get familiar with them, wait a few months, and then maybe do it?

RE: PokéPoetry! #3 (Sign Ups)

Once the generator that I use is updated with gen 6 Pokemon (probably once the games are released).

Why not just use random.org's RNG and use the Pokedex numbers?

What...Is...A...Cacnea?

All joking aside this will be a tough one. I have no idea how I am going to go about making a poem for this thing.

RE: PokéPoetry! #3

How are the poems coming along? Do you guys have any ideas of what you might be focusing on in your poem (features, environment, dex entry)?

Remember, all submissions are due by October 18th by 11:59 PM EDT!
