RE: PokéPoetry! VIII (Currently Underway!)

Instead of putting it in a new post, I updated my original post yesterday with my poem (just in case you guys might wonder =P).

Deep Inside The Dark Woods

A trainer not ready for the battle he fought,
Enters the woods; lost in thought.

He and his partner tremble with fear,
Malicious Grass Pokémon are oh so near.

Running. Faster. He must get away.
This forest, so dangerous, he cannot stay.

Scary noises from behind every tree,
Scouting every direction but not a single path to see.

Just when the trainer’s hope was almost gone,
He found a tiny cute Grass Pokémon.

The forest was his home, he knew exactly where to go,
So the trainer and his partner followed this petite-sized hero.

This adventure gave them a new friend,
Who decided to stick with them to the end.

Training and battling with all his might,
This little hero quickly learned to fight.

The gym that once seemed impossible to beat,
Has now finally experienced defeat.

Beware of Spinda

They say no two Spinda have the same pattern of spots
Though the chances are actually not zero.
One in four billion, while not exactly a lot
Defines a key trait of this hero.

A hero, you say, cannot be this bear,
Whose walk is rather unsteady.
However, it's the truth, I swear!
You should truly fear this teddy.

Spinda teeters and totters for hours each day
To confusingly kill its rivals.
For causing confusion is how it will slay
Anything threatening its survival.

Beware of this spotted hero, for it’s a cold, heartless assassin,
Though dancing along to its teetering song will give you some needed compassion.

Magnetic Cries
Slowly but surely, the stone moves.
The eyes glare deep within the soul of the prey,
bringing forth a closer bond for a response from beyond.

The mustache moves from under the red nose, getting ready to enclose what it chose.
Yet, the bond fails to embalm the surroundings of the one from beyond.
The magnets arise, calming those cries.

The suspense that you endeavored to put in the beginning was executed fancily and the rhyming was able to flow naturally with it as well! I felt as I read through the poem, I could experience a different theme that was reflected in the rhyming words you used such as "friend and end", "might and fight", beat and defeat". This definitely deserves a place at the top for its use of rhymes to push the overall theme and story forward.

I liked this poem and its theme, but I couldn't help but feel that the flow was a little off while I was reading it; such as the rhyming of "Survival and Rivals" or the abrupt end after "You should truly fear this teddy." Besides that, this poem was really spot on and I liked what you did with it!

This shows some descriptive imagery of the pokemon in question while also a sense of mystery with the use of 'beyond', 'enclose', and 'embalm' which is supplemented by a darker feel up until the cries are calmed at the last line. I think this poem could improve by showing more clarity while still maintaining a sense of mystery and suspense and perhaps that will help it achieve the theme that it's going for!

Congratulations, everyone! Even if you didn't score in the top three, it's obvious that someone liked your poem because you received some 'likes' on your posts! I want you all to keep letting your creativity run random and join us in the next round of PokéPoetry which is coming soon to a Writer's Café near you!

This was a fun competition! I quite enjoy writing poetry, even if I'm not as good at it as other styles of writing (which kinda showed here :x). Congratulations Drohn, you did have a fantastic poem there! ^_^ I didn't interpret it how you meant for it to be interpreted originally, but I suppose that's the magic of poetry!

Saw some amazing poems this round! Sadly, no one was able to beat the pro-poet.

If you guys have suggestions, such as any creative twists/themes for future rounds, then feel free to let us know! :)

As always, it was a close race! Drohn's poem was definitely the best :p Good job everyone! If you enjoyed writing your poem this past week, maybe you should open up a poetry thread!

I have an interesting idea for the next round of PokéPoetry: Instead of everything being public, why don't we PM you to sign up with the style of poem, and then you PM us with our Pokémon (all very private information). You then post the poems anonymously at the end (maybe one per post for the liking system?). IDK, I think that havng that sense of anonymity could be fun for something like a poetry competition. Your choice of course, though.

IDK if this has ever been done before, but I think that it coukd be worth trying out ^_^

Thank you everyone for the likes and feedback! :D <3 It was definitely a fun round! I enjoyed reading the other poems as well! Good job everyone!

As for ideas for the next round, we could have themes (like with CaC) for the poems. The Pokémon could be of a specific type, area, etc. and the poem would have to fit a specific theme as well.
