Pokebeach Forums Fan Creations Reform Project

Change is upon us here in the Fan Creations section. Many people have been discussing ways to make the Fan Creations section and its sub-forums better, and finally we are ready to begin a reform project to get this forum going in the right direction. I will explain what we think should be done forum by forum, and then I'll open it up for the rest of you to add suggestions and comment on our thoughts.

The Reform Team
These hard working members (mainly staff) are the driving force behind the changes you will be seeing. From writing the guides themselves, to offering their input on rule and policy changes, The Reform Team is committed to making the Fan Creations forum, as well as its sub-forums, the ideal environment to create, share and critique the various forms of art. Please feel free to contact anyone on the list for more information as to the changes that are being made, as well as the rationale for these changes. They are listed below.

Regular Fan Creations Section Reform
  • Re-Do the Critique, Courtesy, and Common Sense Guide as well as add in tips for new members and common guidelines to follow in the Fan Creations Section.
  • Renovate the Tutorial and Resource thread with new resources, and organize them in an easy, manageable way.
  • Creating a Pokebeach Forums Render Bank for renders of card scans, special Sugimori art work and more pokemon images!
  • Create a Hall of Fame displaying and honoring the best artwork, shops, and fanfics here on Pokebeach. COMPLETED

Celadon Mart Section Reform
  • Re-Do the Celadon Mart Guide and add guidelines and expectations of threads in the forum. COMPLETED
  • Implement an approval system for all new threads made in Celadon Mart. COMPLETED
This would be done to limit the amount of threads made that are not shops as well as stop the creation of shops that have no rules/member lists/examples etc.
  • Remove LuckySong Gallery COMPLETED
  • Create The Example Shop COMPLETED
  • Create a Shop Index COMPLETED
  • Refine/Edit The Example Shop COMPLETED

Writing Corner Section Reform
  • Re-Do the World Library (only listing the active fanfics that have a reply in the last month) COMPLETED
  • Combine all of the guides to make one organized Writing Corner Guide. This will include common grammar tips, a guide to characters, advice for future authors as well as the expected layout of your fanfic.COMPLETED

So this is what we have discussed so far....we are very excited to hearing your input on what we want to do, as well as get some new ideas on what else we could do to make this forum better!

Thanks!

This system is gold. I am all for removing my gallery I did with Echosong. As you told me, the idea is good but the gallery looks too much like some type of clan or club for art and I am sure that a render page would be benifical to members including myself. I am looking for new renders all the time and that would progress people's ability to create quality banners or avatars. A hall of fame is probably what LuckySong's gallery would be removed for so that's a better idea. It's dead anyways, haha. Anyway, I think this is a great selection of ideas and this forum should strive as it once did! If you need any help or suggestions, PM me. This forum is where I enjoy posting. :]

this.
Creating a Pokebeach Forums Render Bank for renders of card scans, special Sugimori art work and more pokemon images!
Create a Hall of Fame displaying and honoring the best artwork, shops, and fanfics here on Pokebeach.
this may be the best thing that has every happened on pokebeach since i joined (if it happens)
if you need any help setting up anything, you can ask me!

Excellent! Fan Creations is one of my favorite forums, after all!

I'm all for this change, and actually, if you would like any help with the Writing Corner section, I would be glad to. I consider myself an above-average writer, so maybe I can help out somehow. Feel free to contact me if you are in need of my assistance.

This is good. Really good and needed. I may be a writer, but not actually good at making stories. Well, somewhat good. I can help out a bit with the Writing Corner. But it depends.

Thanks for your support, all of you =]

We probably wont be needing help as far as actually writing up the guidelines/stickies for each forum. What we are asking of you is to tell us what you think of our plans so far, and thinking of/posting good ideas on how to make the section even better.

Thanks again!

About the render database: I don't think that is a good idea. The only purpose of it, would be for people to use it. I'm not sure if it's just me being arrogant, but I think that most artists wouldn't want to only give get credit when making an item.

I like the render databse idea. May I help out with it, because I am already working on doing SV Renders?

First of all, I cant really understand what you're saying...let me clarify about the meaning/purpose of a Render Bank.

The whole purpose is to create a collection of renders that all artists share....its a community thing. You take a render to use, and then the next time you render something, go ahead and put it in the bank so others can use it. There is no harm with everyone sharing the renders they made with each other right? And of course, the renderer's name/logo will be put next to the render so that person can be recognized.

Of course....anyone will be allowed to put renders into the bank as long as they are good medium to high-quality.

Ok. Would you need to give credit to the indivisual Render Donator? That's what I thought. If not, nevermind.

i bet one day you will need a render for something and you will find it in there and think otherwise lol
its basically a resources thread. just the resources are made from other members!

No, he will just put his symbol/name next to his render to take credit for it that way. We dont want to get too crazy with the "oh this person didn't give credit"

If you put your render in the bank, thats your credit. From there on out, any Pokebeach member can use the render without specifically giving credit. At least, thats the plan.

Cool. I will work on other sets then SV right now because WPM's scans are not really "Great Quality". I do renders rather fast, so today or tommorow I should have Rising Rivals done.

when will the "render bank" thread be up? if not soon, then please PM them to me, ElectroManiac.
are you going to set up the thread B-Ray? I dont know if you appreciate offer like this, (lol) but i could start it and update it daily if you like

I have been working for 15 minutes and have 3 done. And SB, I already offered.
i offered earlier as well.
anyways, i dont want an argument :D
on question though
how do you get a render to have a clear background?
i always have to get someone else to do that >_>

In GIMP,

Go to Layer>Transparency>Add Alpha Channel

Then use the pen tool to select around the area. Invert your selection, then cut.

:)

I like the thread and ideas, good job BR =)

Like I said in a previous post, this thread is to tell you what we're planning to do with the Fan Creations forum in the very near future. This thread has also been made to get suggestions from you guys as to what else to do and to get your feedback on what we had decided on.

As of now, we do not need any help with this besides ideas. If there comes a time where we could use someone, we will say so.
