We, the Mods on Pokebeach would like to get you the members opinions. Pokebeach Tutoring has not successfully taken place in a long while. This could be a good way to get more activity in our VG Community. This is also an oppurtunity for you the members to learn Competitive Battling from some of Pokebeach's own Top Battlers.

Question:
What is your opinion in Pokebeach tutoring coming back?

This thread does not ensure it will come back its simply knowing your opinions.

If you are possibly intrested in being a tutor for this in the future. PM [mod]R-C[/mod]

Thank You and Please feel free to post any questions or PM them to [mod]R-C[/mod]

Question:
What is your opinion in Pokebeach tutoring coming back?

It'd be absolutely nice! If it came back I'd like a shot of someone tutoring me to tutor, and, if possible, sign up to be one. The only unfortunate thing I realized is that pretty much every competitive player on Pokebeach knows what he is doing. To be honest, I don't really see anyone who would need tutoring unless they're pretty much new to the site and new to the metagame.

Tutoring coming back would be great. I think we need to have some way to make sure both the tutee and the tutor are active, like a thread or something. But otherwise, that'd be great.

The main issue is the tutee needs to be seeking out their tutor. I have given lessons in the past, but after 1-2 lessons the tutee stops contacting me. It should be their responsibility to contact me since they are the one wanting to learn, not the other way around.

I would say you guys bring it back.. Also, Arceus, the awnser is they sign up for x amount of lessons, and if they don't follow through, or contact you they must redo ALL of them or so :)

But that's just my two-bits

I support it, but I've brought up this idea before, and the problem is that the VG community is very small. I'd love to tutor someone in the lower tiers, like RU, NU, and LC, but I'd like to see the more experienced guys sign up first. I'm all for this, but I'm a little worried that it will be another failed attempt.

I agree with much of what's been said already. VG needs to grow more first.

We have already picked our possible tutors out of course. I see you guys are interested in this ,but you feel that it will completely fall flat on it's face. I will hopefully get back to you guys on this.

For Now.

If you think carefully, I think that the only sure way that we are going to attract an immense amount of activity is if the program itself goes live. I know that PB might not have a really large VG player base, but if we are looking to increase the overall amount of activity, this is going to be one of the most effective things to do.

I disagree. I think that the majority of people who are truly interested in tutoring would have contacted an admirable battler, or explored tutoring programs off of Pokebeach by now. If not, people who would sign up if this sort of thing were to happen are likely less dedicated. This results in the same problems that have plagued our past tutoring programs.

I think that PB VG is going in the right direction to make room for expanding. Tutoring is something we can reconsider once we do see that growth.

I think that the mods could improve the quality of the vg forums with tutoring. By helping out those (like me) who may not have a good grasp on vg battling the quality of the forums will improve. I think it wouldn't be productive if you waited for things to get better to start tutoring. Tutoring should make things better. Also, right around the time of the master cup is a perfect time to start tutoring.

I totally agree with 47bennyg... But we'd need one for EVERY tier, which makes some of the tutors hard to find, or tutoring in multiple tiers. Maybe do like an apprentice type thing, 1 Tutor - 1 Apprentice. Give them like 2-3 months, and let the Mentor have lessons and such in tiers and such...

(Can we have a grads party and PB tutor reunion:p)

R-C knows my opinion already, but I'm going to say it anyways.

Tutoring makes growth. It gives PokeBeach a larger community of players, or at least players who feel that they can be more active in the VG section.

It's like a garden. We're all seeds. Tutoring is water that makes us grow.

Also going to throw this out here. If anyone needs help in BW2 OU, feel free to send me a PM/Profile Comment and I can try to help you out.

2 or 3 months will take too long. Organizing mentors by the level (teaching the new player: Beginner-Intermediate-Adept-expert-Master- and so on) will probably be the best thing to do. Each lesson can take place approximately 1-2 weeks each tutee. I know it's just a rough idea, but I think it's efficient.

Problem is most of the tutees lose interest very fast, which overall is very dissapointing. We really need to come up with something that makes sure you will be participating, the tutee is supposed to seek out the tutor, not th other way unless it is really neccesary. The good thing is that with us being open while Smogon Tutoring is typically in the middle of a round, we can also get anybody from there that wants to learn here. This is not a bad idea, but we're going to need to personally select the tutors and tutees. I suggest we create an entire new forum section for this to decrease clutter.

The problem is, this cannot be a strictly mod based decision. There are members just as responsible as the mods, but have even more skill than the VG mods themselves. I suggest we get Pride to run this as he is probably the best active battler on the beach at the time, so I suggest we nominate him. I can also run this as I am an official tutor on Smogon, as was Pride, so I suggest we get an idea of who will run this before we actually start this.

The members I feel we should include as tutors: Pride, Teapot, Arceus, Plato, Limitless, Bippa

I would be interested in being tutored if this were to come to fruition. I could always use some tips.

Yeah I would be interested in being a tutor if you guys make this thing work, since I've tutored lots of people before and have the experience and all that stuff.
