This, might not be true, but I got a good felling about it! When you click the little gear, and go to the options screen, a butten (sorry for spelling) says UPDATE. I don't truly know what it is for. first i thought if you missed a day you can still get the pokemon from it. Now, I have a different Idea. First: Legendary that are unavailable in it-well, just wait for your movie, then you can be downloaded! Seconded: Pokemon from gen 1-4 might be downloaded as well!
Now I am making this a poll to see how many people think my idea is right.

I wish The AR markers worked in AR games still....:(

I think the fact that it was free is pushing it. There's no way in hell that they'd offer up 3D models of 646 Pokemon on a portable console for absolutely free.
It'd have to get an update before you could get Pokemon from other generations, but that'd sort of seem weird having the original bird trio with every other Unova Pokemon.

You have a point. But I did say it might not be true. Still dose not mean that it would not be cool, though.
 
Nintendo gives out Legendary pokemon at events for free. why not a pokedex?

Just another ploy to lure in people who don't have 3ds's. That's what it's about.

Ninetendo doesn't have to work to give out legendary pokemon. All they do is put whatever they want into a silly machine and you have a mystery gift. Now to graphatize a 3d Pokemon on this game, takes A LOT of work, drawing hundreds of pokemon is work enough but making it in 3D would take a while. Like Pokefan said, there's almost no way they're going to add more for free.
 
If you look in the moves that are in the Pokedex, they have all of them, including Bonemerang and Sacred Fire. They will be adding the older Pokemon in eventually.
 
There's a huge chance it'll get an update at some point, but... I don't think the "Update" button has anything to do with that. If they're going to release an updated version, it'd obviously have to be downloaded through the eShop, as with updates for Wii Channels...
That "Update" button is mysterious. There's absolutely no logical use for it. :/
 
There might be if the original pokedex 3d gets very popular Nintendo will want to make it even better
