BW/BW2 Pokemon Black and White - Graphics!

Ey people,

I bought Pokemon Black on Saturday and I was wondering how everyone else liked the graphics? Improvement from SS/HG and D/P? Same thing?

Personally I feel it's more of the same...maybe a little improvement. But some pokemon's back sprites look really pixelated for some reason {Smugleaf's first evo for example) One thing I'm loving is the different views on the overworld. When I first entered the major city (The huge one..I forget the name) and the game's camera was moving all around with the train moving below the bridge you're running on...I was really in awe.

Overall I feel the overworld graphics look a little better than SS/HG, definitely when the camera moves around and just doesn't stay in one spot.

The battle graphics are good as well, just some pokemon don't look that great on their backsprites. I'd say it's more or less the same as it was in HG, just they moves constantly now. =P Would love to get some other opinions.

Thanks,
Densetsu

I think the graphics were a HUGE step from D/P/PT and a big difference from HG and SS. They have really pushed the graphics for the DS and they did a wonderful job of it. Making the camera move was just genius.

I'm probably one of the few who feels this way but I dislike the idle animations of the pokemon in battle. The slow framerate combined with the repetitive motion (Zekrom's strobing tail = +20 dislike from me) didn't appeal to me.

Overworld is better. Nice to see they're trying to make some places less restrictive to orthogonal directions. Shame we're still stuck with overworld sprites.

The animations definitely liven up the competitive battle videos you see on youtube. Infernape's blazing fire-hair makes him look badass. I thought he was *meh* until yesterday when I saw him used in an OU battle in Black and White.

There are few bad things about the new graphics, namely that their slightly overconfident 3D graphics mean that sometimes you're running diagonally, it looks really bad.

The battle animations are utter BEAST.

The battles definitely look much better now, and I'm quite a fan of the graphics.
However, in some stills & videos (SOME, it may just be the quality) the graphics of the people/Pokemon looked a little too "blocky" for my liking.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks they look way too pixilated. It's to the point where it's bothersome, based on the videos I've seen. It's a cool feature, but it definately needs some improvement. The movements don't look that natural either, it's repetitive motions over and over again. But, hey, it's a step in the right direction- it can only get better.

The graphics have changed from the previous games. When I saw the D/P graphics I was really amazed that they had changed that much from the previous games. Black and White have had a change with the graphics giving us a better perspective of the buildings around the player and also the change in the camera angle which zooms more in and out for better view.

The pixelation(aka the blockyness) of the sprites comes from the fact that they sprites are small(about the same size as the front sprites IIRC), but the camera zooms in on them to give the appearance of a full sized back sprite. IMO, it looks like a throwback to R/G/B to me. Now those were pixelated as well.

The constant animation is a step up from the previous games. However, the sprites themselves are lacking in the shading department. They seem to get the most basic shading and had the focus placed on poses that could be animated.

The 3D is utilized much better in these games, IMO. Well, I guess I can just say look at Hiun City or the cutscenes with Zekrom and Reshiram.

Overall, I prefer them to the other DS games.

My thoughts exactly, some pokemon just don't look that great on their back sprites, they look really pixelated. But you're definitely right about how it's a step in the right direction, I'm glad they're finally trying out different things. They can only improve from here. {F}

Well said, didn't think about that. Guess they didn't have the time to make a better quality sprite when the camera zoomed in on them.

Yeah the 3D is way better, the overworld is an improvement over the past games for sure.
