It's going downhill for die-hard fans, and Up for the rich noobs who are obsessed with the anime and uber legendaries.
:p That's the quote where I was looking for ^^^

^^ agreed. See, the anime is just terrible. The dubs in america are just awful, but the series itself isn't doing as good as it once was. Ash was once planning to become a pokemon master, not a whiny kid with uber weak pokemon(see ash's battle against paul). He is either unbearably strong or laughably weak, where as before he would fight it down until the end

The cards have gone both uphill, and downhill.
Uphill: More cards, lots more strategy, lots of things to think about, overall fun.
Downhill: To many cards it seems, and every card either sucks, or is unbeatable(see luxape/mother gengar). There are so many things to think about, where before it was simple to just pick up. Also, pokemon werent uber massive(see GE wailord. 200hp against an old Mankey who has 30 hp...)

The games are both, up and down:
Up: More pokemon, new moves, new strategies, new areas to play, more connectivity, loads of features and things to do after the story.
Down: To many pokemon, like 493, 2198750476024 legends from this generation alone, once good and fun pokemon are now heavily outpowered by pokemon with say 713 hp(blissey). Breeding and Ev and Iv are irritating, take forever, and just are boring for what, 6 pixel characters? Gah...

Manga: no idea on this one...

All in all pokemon is going uphill on roller blades. They go up, may slip a little, drop a few things, but make it to the top no matter what.

I think different aspects of it are going in different directions...

In general I think the pokemons designs have been going downhill. I think the author of VG Cats had it right when he wrote "Pokemon these days look so stupid. They all look like robots, with stripes and spikes." And not only that but it seems almost as though they're designing each pokemons stats to be more suitable for competitive battling. Compare Pidgeot to Staraptor for a second. Both the common bird evolutions of their generations but where Pidgeot has more well-rounded stats with slightly better Attack and Speed, Staraptor is all about Attack and Speed since they're its 'useful' stats and forsake everything else. (Maybe I'm just being a bit silly on that point but that's how it looks to me.)
In the competitive arena, Staraptor is much better. What's the point of having balanced stats, when all of them are low? Swampert's stats are quite balanced, but they are higher in some areas.

Other than that, the games are repetitive, I've given up on the horrible anime, never read the manga, barely knew anything about the TCG.

Same here.

I am going to state my opinions without reading the last two pages so dont sue me.

It seems a concrete fact right now that the Pokemon Animé has gone downhill ever since Kanto/Jhoto, mainly due to a number of reasons (Getting rid of Misty, dwindling of obscure Japanese culture references, voices etc). I dont read the magna though form what I have seen it doesnt look as though they have changed much regarding the Manga formula so it isnt relaly uphill or downhill, just not going anywhere.

I think I am one of the few people who hated the Gold/Silver generation of pokemon mainly because I thought a large bulk of the designs were unimaginative compared with the 1st generation however thats besdies the point. Pokemon games have ALWAYS been repetitive so its hardly a question of "When did pokemon become awful/great" but more of a question of "When did Pokemon become bearable/unbearable" For me, I liked R/B/Y, Quite liked G/S/C, REALLY liked R/S/E but wasnt that keen on D/P/P though that may be because I dont like online battling.

I personally think that the TCG has improved by FAR. This doesnt just have to do with the card game but the art of the cards (Which I think has improved), the people who play the game (also improved), how the game can be played (Although I will miss mulligan Mewtwo) and a lot of other benefactors that dont involve the letter G (GG, Unown G, Gengar, you get the idea.) etc.

My conclusion is that Pokémon has been getting a lot wrong and a lot right recently. I am personally seeing a crescendo of quality throughout Pokemon right now and I hope that this trend does nto dip with the 5th generation.
