The early demo of pokemon GS leaked recently, unearthing, among other things, a treasure trove of scrapped pokemon designs and early designs from existing pokemon from G2.

This is but a sample:

Oh, right, also, the Cyndaquil line was almost bears, and ditto had a Metal Coat evolution that is forever trapped in a painful, horrifying rictus, but who cares about that when there are baby Vulpixes in that world.

I do not miss the old sprites, at all.

I'll forever be holding out for Baby Meowth now. They definitely hit the brakes on the baby Pokemon based on the spreadsheet.

All these baby Pokemon that would've been nice to see in Gen II. Since breeding was a nice mechanic, it would've been cool to see GF really go to town to showcase how breeding works.

This prototype is simply fascinating.

There were planned evolutions for Qwilfish, Farfetch'd, Ditto, and Pinsir (which may have been the prototype for Heracross).

Interestingly, several Pokemon that were scrapped here were used in later gens. This includes prototypes for Tangrowth, Leafeon and Lickilicky.

Umbreon was also originally a Poison type. This may explain the strange inclusion of "poisonous sweat" in its PokeDex entries.
