Some people, and maybe plenty may find what i say maybe a little disturbing or offensive, but i think i should just read my mind. I remember back in grade 5, i thought pokemon was awesome! trying to reach the charizard holographic was every person dream in my school! but then it got banned from my school due ot its over popularity. now why am i telling u this? well, let me put it this way, i found that the first series of pokemon, base, jungle, fossil, etc. were the most mind-blowing things ive ever seen.

Later on came the 2nd set, having cyndaquil, chikorita, etc. oh kewl, this is awesome, i mean now they atleast got different species of animals.

but then comes the 3rd set, then the 4thn then the 5th?

ok i think that the publishers, creaters, of pokemon have over done pokemon, theres wayyyy to many pokemon. and they couldnt just remake card series with the first 2 sets of pokemon? remember the saying: collect all 150? well jee i sure do, but now its like, collect all 750?? my lord. though i am impressed on how far they have gotten, and it is pretty interesting. i just find that the creatures they have created for the games, cards, tv shows, movies has just over done its time. shouldnt they let pokemon rest in peace? i mean, remake the cards, but let the tv show die, let it rest in peace.

If they only let pokemone die at 150, it would of made the perfect end to my childhood and many others, but they have over populated pokemon, that its made it a mess! id like to here peoples opinions.

I'm pretty glad that it's lasted as long as it has. It's amazing that other generations of kids are getting to see something that we were into when we were younger. I was into it when I was in 7th grade. I played the card game, and it got banned from our school too. I quit for quite a while when i got back into high school, and got back into it again just a couple of years ago. I'm a senior in college now, and looking at my dorm room, you certainly wouldn't think that. I've got Pokemon stuff absolutely everywhere!

So... what, you are complaining that Nintendo didn't let one of its biggest franchises die?

You do know that pokemon is the second best franchise of games sold right? So why would nintendo let that big money slip off it's hands and let millions of people hate them

It's not only the second best franchise sold, but that goes for Nintendo as well. Bigger than The Legend of Zelda, yeah, I think they shouldn't have milked this series for all it's worth. >..> At least trying to get the most out of it before it's disliked completely, is better than dying it off and starting with a new franchise. Get over it; Pokemon will be around for a long time.

Biggest franchises
1. Mario
2. Pokemon
3. etc. I forgot.

Though I do agree that the anime should have died a long time ago. It's the only reason why everyone thinks pokemon is childish. Only the anime is. Today's anime, I mean.

If Nintendo were to let Pokemon die, they may as well let Mario die too, and maybe letting Zelda and Metroid die as well. It would be stupid if Nintendo let Pokemon die, many fans love all the new Pokemon.

From some British magazine whose name I forgot, the top 5 highest-selling video game series are:

1. Mario
2. Pokémon
3. Final Fantasy
4. Madden NFL
5. The Sims

Pretty remarkable for Madden to be where it is, considering that it's sold in pretty much just one country. I guess most of it comes from the pre-Wii casual gamers. Then again, South Korea has its own exclusive blockbuster, some online life-simulator that's roughly at #18.

On theother hand, Pokémon is the top-selling video game franchise in history relative to its age. If I remember correctly, the magazine said that Pokémon sold 18 million, with Mario at 28 million, and it was published December 2006. That would mean Pokémon sold about 1.63 million per year and Mario at 1.33 million. Pokémon is also by far the youngest franchise on the top 5, all of the others originating during the 4th generaiton of video games (commonly known as the "16-bit era") or earlier.

(Accounting for games released since then, most notably Pokémon Diamond/Pearl and Super Mario Galaxy, Pokémon should be somewhere around 23 million now, and Mario at around 32 million.)

Mario came out before the 5-bit era. >...>

For Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda is #3. That's all I know though.

I applaud them for making Pokemon to the fullest, and I think they should keep it up. New people will always like it, and it'll always be popular among the people who play it today.

The length of pokemon has been incorporated into my life created the year I was born and I've loved it since if it ha died my childhood would have died :( besides there's always new stuff to-do! But they should make some kind of pokemon older series-_-

To be honest, I don't mind if pokemon continue. Just that they create all the wierd stuff like arceus etc. it drives me nuts.

I remeber the Command and Conquer series is also one of the Top Ten. I love that series.

Mario came around during the 8-bit era. That's when Nintendo joined the business with Donkey Kong.

Yes, among Nintendo franchises, The Legend of Zelda is #3. (Donkey Kong is #4, and that's as far as I know.) It's not in the top 5, however, because there have been much fewer games for the series than those in the top 5, even though each have sold pretty well. (Also, when I say "The Sims," I mean the entire feranchise, such as every verison of SimCity and SimLife, which I think also came about in the 8-bit era.)

Too bad Sonic is at #11 on that list. It's probably from the bad rap he's gotten ever since he went 3-D.

Don't worry guys, Pokemon will break the 1000 mark soon. :] That's when we'll see things inspired from Yugioh, Digimon, and, especially, fans.

Well I gotta say, the anime is irratating, and it's embarraing when you walk by a stand full of pikachu action figure, aimed at 5 year olds. Why would nintendo let pokemon die? Thoes action figures might even sell. Iv'e gotta say, where I live (in the UK), they have made it into a thing for 5 year olds. I dunno about anywhere else, but it's that way here.

In the US it's pretty much the same thing. I think Japan would be the only country to really aim at the older fanbase.

I doubt that all of the Pokemon to date were part of Satoshi Tajiri's 1,170 original Pokemon. The style of Pokemon changed drastically for the Advanced generation. It is possible that some of the new Pokemon are based on older, unreleased monsters, but it's obvious that some are brand new.

I don't know if Pokemon will make it to the 1,000 mark. When you think about, critics hit Diamond and Pearl hard for not having many innovations besides Wi-Fi. If Game Freak and Nintendo were to continue at this pace, the games wouldn't hold up much longer. They might cap it off after any new set of Pokemon and take the series a different root. Pokemon would do well as an MMO because it would be a major cash crop for Nintendo. Think about how much money they would make if you had to pay for it monthly. You could also have battles and trades over Wi-Fi easily and run your own gym or whatever.

You also have to take into account the battling metagame when thinking about how many new creations could be made. If they keep making more powerful monsters and better attacks, the metagame will be broken. On the other hand, they can't just release a set of pre-evolutions. I hope we get another generation... At least. :]

Togeshroob's Future Predictions

Nintendo will come up with a 5th Generation, with two new "version" game (i.e. D/P, R/S, etc), and with a whole new batch of Pokemon.

At that point, Pokemon will still stay strong, but it will go a whole new direction. No more of the typical Pokemon game such as D/P etc.

It is unknown at this point if this new direction will just be a new Pokemon gaming experience or if it will introduce even more new Pokemon.

Anyways, what's wrong with more Pokemon? Pokemon are animals... kinda. Only 150 species? You know what would happen if there were only 150 species of animals living on Earth as we know it (and not just your average dog and cat, I'm talking about things like protists too)? We'd all be dead.

So yeah. >;p

One thing that's bothered me is that three generations have passed by ever since I heard news there'd be a second generation where there's no Pokémon to represent the housefly/mosquito or the cockroach. They're such annoyingly common animals that I'm surprised they've yet to be represented.

Of course, it took until Sinnoh for there to be a proper rabbit Pokémon, and rabbits are also pretty common.

I hope the battling system will remain turn-based. Pokémon HAS to keep its spot as the most sophisticated and multiplayer-intensive turn-based game. Something has to represent turn-based battling in competitive video gaming, and Pokémon is pretty much holding that up on its own. Should Pokémon stop being turn-based, the peolpe who actually enjoy this type of competition would have nowhere else to go. (Maybe Advance Wars...)

Japan is the only country I know of where Pokémon is marketed to older people. I'd say the reason why is a difference in attitudes towards commercialization and consumerism. It's seen as negative in America and Europe, but it's seen as positive in Japan. The people behind Pokémon openly admit that they milk the franchise to the brim with merchandise of every sort, and the Japanese guys can aim at older people because they will buy the plushes, albums, and such. (Which also brings up the point that video games aren't considered a geek thing in Japan.) Elsewhere, Pokémon is aimed at kids because they are the age group who won't feel sour about all the merchandise, as they don't have a strong concept of money. We have the impression that all CEOs are bitter old white men who would decapitate their mothers for a dollar, and the last thing many of us would want to do is support them by giving them money.

Pokemon is kind of already Strategic, but not in an Advance Wars situation. I would call the game a Strategy/RPG, because that's basically what it is. I'd be suprised if they changed the formula that's worked ever since it came out.
