It has been quite sometime since they made Pokemon TCG for Game Boy Color. I understand that there are internet interfaces such as Redshark and Apprentice that allow players to create decks and test them before buying the actual cards, but what are people's opinions of releasing a sequel for the Pokemon TCG for the Nintendo DSi (or the Wii)? Would anyone like to Wi-Fi TCG battle with the recent cards? What if programmers designed it to include and integrate any card (including artwork) from previous sets as well as cards not yet released, with options to build decks under every possible modified format? Would you like to see the game itself enforce the TCG rules? Perhaps download special cards at special events? I want to hear your thoughts.

Edit: Feel free to discuss what deck you ran during the older version as well, as well as any other aspects of it. ~EspeonROX.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

OMG I have wanted them to make another Pokemon TCG video game ever since I first started playing!!! It would be so convinient for me because I have a LOT of spare time, most of which I would love to spend playtesting decks on a DSi. Plus the fact that I only go to league once a week, and whenever I play against my mom at home, it's not good enough because I need to play against metagame decks like luxchomp, but my mom only plays rogue. None of my friends that I actually meet up with play pokemon, so..... :( Yeah I REALLY want them to make a Pokemon TCG game for DSi!!!!

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

I would kill for another game like that.

I played the GBC one to the point the battery crapped out on me. I have a working copy in Japanese but...I don't read Japanese.
I'm currently playing a ROM. Good memories. Trying to hunt down a working copy. (Or I might just solder a battery...)

The thing is: Would it make money?
Wouldn't some people stop buying the TCG because it's "cheaper" just to use the game multi-player? If they didn't have a multi-player option to "avoid" that would the game even sell?

It'd be a great idea but it's...unlikely.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

I would personally have this over actually collecting the cards, honestly. The Pokemon TCG GB game is how I learnt the rules of the game and started playing.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

Having the entire cardpool would be a bit much, and honestly, I doubt they would do it anyway, they try not to focus much on previous cards. When previous cards get re-released (except when they're filler, like random prevolutions, or when they're in a filler set like Power Keepers), they usually make a big deal of it. If they made a new Pokemon TCG video game, it would probably be DP-on, Platinum-On or HS-On, it likely wouldn't contain any pre-DP cards. Of course, it would probably have new game-exclusive cards. (And maybe a few returning ones, thinking of the legendary cards, particularly birds, when I say that.)

And this is why it'll never happen. Less sales.

Santa, all I want for christmas is a remake of the Pokemon TCG game for the DSi. Even the 3DS.

Please oh please, let there be another TCG game. i loved the first one, even though I was a n00b. A new one would make me explode with joy. please....

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

In the old game, you picked a starter set (charmander, squirtle, or bulbasaur) and improved the deck with booster packs you get if you win a match (you get two packs). What if they did that in this DS game, and they could give you a choice of theme decks (no SP ones), and you could improve it with packs you can earn by winning. And beating a gym leader would earn you cash, in which you can go to a virtual store, and buy MD-on packs. This way, you wouldn't have the 'entire' card pool in your hands and you'd have to earn all your cards. Or random events could happen like "On your way to the gym, you found a Luxray GL Lv. X on the ground!" or maybe just a Bidoof card or something.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

This would be awesome!!!! I have the old one, still working. But, when I tried to play it, I didn't understand a dang thing. But, I understand TCG top to bottom. I would be kinda mad if it was DSi because I don't have one. I have a DS Lite.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

They could soften the loss of sales by requiring physical cards to play in official tournaments.

I can see this being a DSi-on exclusive, as they would make each set downloadable content. And hey, sales from DSi Points.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

Downloadable content seems like an awesome way for the developers to design the game, actually. It would then be possible for the game to adapt to the release of 5th generation sets onward without having to create several more sequels.

Not necessarily. The game could have a really limited format (like just the HS block if it were released this year, for example), so there's still incentive to collect if you want access to cards from MD to Arceus.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

I would LOVE IT! Maybe if you enter special codes you'd get a special card? But if you couldn't use these in tournys people might not buy them...

That does seem like a really good idea. Other than that, I would have liked to see the e-reader concept improved and better implemented as an alternative. So to get rarer/ better cards you still need to buy the real cards. Just my two cents.

I would definitely love to see a new Pokemon TCG game.....though I would like the story to be less cheesy than the first one.

RE: Pokemon TCG for Nintendo DSi Sequel Proposition

I still play this. I love the game! If you could make this game go Wi-Fi, wow. Sales = mass boostage. I added the poll, because I'd like to see the results for this topic.

I personally loved the fact that you could win these almighty Legendary cards that weren't very good. :p I ran a straight Hitmonchan deck, which I would use to spam Jabs and Special Punches. It was OK, and I ran a few Kangaskhan in there too to prevent getting overrun by Psychic-types.

I remember playing that game, and I still do. I was like, a dozen cards away from completeing the collection, but I quickly got bored of battling just to get a card I might never earn. Stupid Ditto card! I open one pack of Fossil (in real life) and pull a Ditto rare, but I can't pull it in a video game? C'mon!

They should relases some promos free with the game so that it would get more people into the real TCG. They could increase the popularity of the game loads!

What about if it came with a theme deck? They could choose that theme deck on the game and play with it with other people, even if they didn't have access to a league. It might make the TCG more popular!

I like the idea, to all the complaints about them losing money on the TCG: I`d only use the game to test decks, which i don`t have the cards for, which one makes nintendo more money: Printing out proxies, or selling a game to let people test decks?

I still have and still play the GBC Game and it's awesome :) After thinking that it would be great to have an updated game, I did think about whether Nintendo would lose money.
But think about the Yugioh series. They release a game every single year (at least) on DS and they still have a massive fan base for playing the real game.
If they did bring one out, I dont think that they would lose sales solely because people would use it to playtest with cards they dont have and playing computer AI is nowhere close to playing in real life :)

Think about how popular RedShark is too?

Just my opinion.
