At my local Pokemon league there is a lot of kids. The few adults, including me, that are there were wanting a fun way to try and help kids learn the fundamentals/basics of the game while still being fun. What we came up with was the gym leaders from the T.V series and if they win they get a prize (IE: badge, Card or maybe some other sort of cool thing.) Each gym would consist of all the types of Pokemon and the gym leader could only use those type of Pokemon. Now the gym leaders would progressively get harder as they progress. I was wanting to your thoughts on this and if anyone as ever done anything like this to share some ideas.

In terms of prizes, I did that for awhile, offered to let them go through some of my old bulk and pick a card for every prize they could take against me. As a bulk hoarder, it was a good way to reduce my giant pile of old cards.

I too am a bulk hoarder and this might not be a bad idea. Maybe let some of the seniors take a pick from some of my surplus GX or EX cards as a final prize so the don't get too discouraged with the prizes.

Not a big deal, but have you considered referencing the TCG Gym Leaders from Pokémon Trading Card Game (Game Boy Color, 2000)?

Might be too confusing, but it might also be really cool for any kids that played it (it was re-released on the Virtual Console for the 3DS), and being obscure might actually make it more interesting to the kids.
