RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline
My thoughts from seeing the first two dubbed episodes last week:
The premiere episode I thought was very uniform to other regional pilots, but Lumiose City Pursuit! really seemed to keep me engaed and interested the whole way through. Maybe I was just in a mood or something, but I absolutely loved the ending part, especially getting chills when Ash so selflessly jumped off the ledge to save Pikachu. The bond between them is so touching it just cuts deep , lol. And of course, the touching moment during the climax of the bitter struggle to help Garchomp regain its consciousness.
My thoughts from seeing the first two dubbed episodes last week:
- Rosenfeld (Bonnie's VA) needs to step it up a little, and by connection, the way the producers want Bonnie portrayed. Her voice sounds so annoying because they have the false concept of what a child sounds like. She purposefully sounds like she has a constant cold, which is ridiculous because I've never heard a kid sound like that, so neither should she.
- Seeing Clemont full on in an episode made me come to a heightened awareness of how much I actually don't like his clothing. He looks like he's wearing a 4 year old's sky-blue footsie pajamas, and it just doesn't match his voice. If I'm already concerned about seeing it throughout this series, it must be pretty bad. His voice, by the way, is wonderfully on point!
- I am LOVING the fact that I did not see any cheesy battle cuts. Like, is this real life? Was I just not paying close attention or was there really none? I was really hoping this would happen this gen, and I'm so overjoyed that they ditched those cuts. This just ups the quality of the anime battle scenes by leaps and bounds.
- I thought it was al ittle peculiar how they were all treating Garchomp. It was almost like they were talking to a baby, even though they are talking to this big intimidating Pokemon. Idk, it just seemed kind of interesting.
- A small, but significant detail: at the end of Lumiose City Pursuit, you can still see the hole in Sycamore's lab that Garchomp made when it was enraged. I feel like the producers have made an effort to pay a tiny bit more attention to detail here. In the days of old we would most likely have seen a flawless building as if it had already been repaired impossibly quickly, or as if it had never happened. I appreciate that that's not the case here.
