Pokemon the Series X / Y Discussion (English Dub)

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

My thoughts from seeing the first two dubbed episodes last week:
  • Rosenfeld (Bonnie's VA) needs to step it up a little, and by connection, the way the producers want Bonnie portrayed. Her voice sounds so annoying because they have the false concept of what a child sounds like. She purposefully sounds like she has a constant cold, which is ridiculous because I've never heard a kid sound like that, so neither should she.
  • Seeing Clemont full on in an episode made me come to a heightened awareness of how much I actually don't like his clothing. He looks like he's wearing a 4 year old's sky-blue footsie pajamas, and it just doesn't match his voice. If I'm already concerned about seeing it throughout this series, it must be pretty bad. His voice, by the way, is wonderfully on point!
  • I am LOVING the fact that I did not see any cheesy battle cuts. Like, is this real life? Was I just not paying close attention or was there really none? I was really hoping this would happen this gen, and I'm so overjoyed that they ditched those cuts. This just ups the quality of the anime battle scenes by leaps and bounds.
  • I thought it was al ittle peculiar how they were all treating Garchomp. It was almost like they were talking to a baby, even though they are talking to this big intimidating Pokemon. Idk, it just seemed kind of interesting.
  • A small, but significant detail: at the end of Lumiose City Pursuit, you can still see the hole in Sycamore's lab that Garchomp made when it was enraged. I feel like the producers have made an effort to pay a tiny bit more attention to detail here. In the days of old we would most likely have seen a flawless building as if it had already been repaired impossibly quickly, or as if it had never happened. I appreciate that that's not the case here.

The premiere episode I thought was very uniform to other regional pilots, but Lumiose City Pursuit! really seemed to keep me engaed and interested the whole way through. Maybe I was just in a mood or something, but I absolutely loved the ending part, especially getting chills when Ash so selflessly jumped off the ledge to save Pikachu. The bond between them is so touching it just cuts deep , lol. And of course, the touching moment during the climax of the bitter struggle to help Garchomp regain its consciousness.

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

I was very impressed by the 2 Kalos episodes that they have shown. I like the new characters so far, Clemont, his sister, Sycamore etc. Glad to see Wobuffet back! xD

I am excited now for the X and Y anime, I was disappointed with the Black and White saga.. just hopefully this time around there will be better "fillers" if any, and not just "oh no Axew was eating a lollipop but then dropped it on the floor then a Patrat ran off with it and Axew now chases it" then they spend the episode looking for Axew.. -_- .. stuff like that really grinds my Klinklang because there was too many of those silly ones in Black & White!

I totally agree. Lost at the League! was one of the most ridiculous filler episodes I've ever seen! I mean, really? We needed an entire episode dedicated to Axew getting lost? During the Unova League for that matter?! Come on!! Sure, Axew was cute and all, but that episode was completely unnecessary. X(

To get back to X/Y, I've only seen 3 episodes and I can already tell that Clemont is a BAJILLION times better than Cilan. He's a nerdy inventor, awesome! And he's not very athletic, I can see him catching up to the others being a running gag in the series. He's got a cute voice too. Most importantly, no more annoying food-related catchphrases and "IT'S EVALUATION(or fill in the blank) TIME!!" *gag*

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

Just got finished watching the first 2 XY episodes. This definitely seems very promising. New characters are awesome. Like mentioned, Clemont, is much much better than Cilan. I got tired and fed up with his "tastes like this, tastes like that" approach very quickly. Fingers crossed on this being as good as it seems. I wonder if Ash will ever use the MegaEvo with his Charizard knowing that its in Oak's lab and they already it in Origins (even thought that is separate from this).

BUT OMG! The ending of the 2nd episode where Froakie is waiting for Ash with a pokeball is SOOOOOOOOO ADORABLE. MADE MY HEART MELT. Epecially when Ash holds the pokeball and Froakie just skips the whole throwing part and hits it himself. I got such a stupid big smile on my face its ridiculous :D

Oh yeah, how could I forget to mention the concentrated cuteness overload of that scene??? Holy Arceus that was adorable. Especially when Froakie nudged the Poke Ball toward Ash? Hhhnnnnnnnngggggg....*collapses*

Btw, I found a promo for the dub! They're using a remix of the original theme!!! Faith in humanity = RESTORED. :D I REALLY hope they use it for the actual dub intro.

They don't say it but its premiering on Cartoon Network on January 18.

I feel like this has probably been asked before, but are any episodes dubbed past the first two? I hear theres some chemistry between Ash and Serena that I'd love to see, but its just kind of my thing to watch Pokemon in dub so I'd rather wait.

Nope. The only episodes dubbed so far are the first two, and the rest of the dub will be airing mid-January. If you want to watch the dub, you'll have to wait until then, sadly.

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

I loved the new feel of the first two episodes!
But I didn't understand, or like, the robot in the Prism Tower that kicked Ash out.
Why would Clemont make a robot that shocks then kicks people out?
Seemed a little to ridiculous. But the first two episodes were super awesome, and I can't wait for the dub to return in January!

Rest assured that there's a reason to why the robot behaves like that, but I won't spoil you! ;)

Thank you for not spoiling me ;)
That sounds assuring at least, can't wait for third!

Clearly, Ash's Pikachu will learn aerial ace to save him from splattering into that building...

Haha, maybe Pikachu will get hit by a Flying Thunderstone to turn into Zapdos. :p

Jokes aside, I'm curious how he will get out of that one. Maybe Charizard comes back? Positive thinking, haha.. Perhaps a Psychic type Pokémon will rescue them. What do you think?

I watched that episode in English, and I know how it ends. The animation is pretty much the same, but in the first episode, I don't recall and cut-scene animations.

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

I like that Serena already knew Ash, so she doesn't feel as forced as other female protagonists. Kind of reminds me of Pokémon Adventures.
Though, I do find it funny that she was scared of a Poliwag, but completely fine around Rhyhorn when she was little.

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

The third episode finally aired today!
Dedenne made it's debut appearance, and I can now confirm, that it is one of the cutest Pokémon ever! My 'Top five favorite Pokémon' list has now been updated!
Mean little Fletchling made it cry. :p

RE: Pokemon X / Y Anime: Animation and Storyline

Since the dub has officially started now, it seems, I'm going to go ahead and change the title/OP to make this thread the official XY English discussion thread. Enjoy! :)

RE: Pokemon the Series XY Discussion

I watched the third episode yesterday. It was alright but I noticed one thing that drove me nuts. They changed the BGM! I know this has happened before with some English dubbed anime, but this makes me upset because I'm afraid they won't use any tracks from the games! I swear, if they remove the Laverre City theme from the flashback scene with Serena meeting Ash, I'll cry.

Oh, and it looks like Clemont has a catchphrase now. I was hoping that nobody would get an obligatory catchphrase but oh well. Hey, at least its better than "You're such a kid!" or anything Cilan said.

Edit: Seriously, am I the only one here who is watching the dub? Its been a week and no comments!

Anyway, I thought the Dedenne episode was better than last episode and Dedenne is not falling short on cuteness factor! And yes, Clemont's gimmick was used again, but it actually works (unlike his inventions, XD) and it is a million times funnier than Cilan's! I'll take exploding machines (and a mini science lesson) over "Evaluation Time! :D" anyday!

RE: Pokemon the Series XY Discussion

I just watch the anime today. And I loved it!

The ambiance of Kalos *in the anime* remind me to Latias and Latios movie. But wait, the hacker said there will be Latias and Latios in XY, possibly in the movie/anime too?? Latias and Latios' hometown *in their movie* based on Venice, Italy, and Kalos based on Paris, France, both in Europe!!

I can't wait for the twist about their relation in pokemon's realm.

AND OMG PIKACHU IS FATTER!!!

I don't follow pokemon BW, but I ranting when see how skinny Pikachu become in their early episodes. Is it fatter through the BW series?

WAAAAA!!! DEDENNE IS CRYING!!! ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! *Faint out of the cuteness!!!!*

Yeah. Need I say more? I just hope I don't cause any unintentional cuteness overload related deaths posting this. :p

Oh, another thing. I noticed when Pikachu and Dedenne are communicating with their electricity, Meowth said he "didn't speak electricity". Weird considering he could decipher Pikachu and Zapdos's electric conversation pretty well in the second movie. I smell a continuity error!

Hah, nice catch! :D I wonder if they have different writers now (or different writers for the movies and TV show) that would explain the error.

RE: Pokemon the Series XY Discussion

A Blustery Santalune Gym Battle aired today, and it was awesome!

The thing that stood out to me the most, was the correct pronunciation of the Bug and Flying type Pokémon Vivillon.
All this time, I have pronounced it the way it looks. Vi-vi-lon. But I was shocked to hear that it's actually pronounced, Vi-veon. With the first i pronounced like the i in, "Where do you live." Which to tell you the truth, I actually like the official pronunciation! Even if it sounds like an eeveelution. :p

Some highlights of the episode;
  • Ash and co. finally arrive in Santalune city and meet the gym leader Viola.
  • Alexa, Viola's older sister, is there to watch the battle.
  • Viola's first Pokémon was Surskit, (and was it strong!), while Ash used Pikachu.
  • Serena unexpectedly enters the gym to watch Ash's battle.
  • The battle was going well for Ash until Surskit froze the entire battle field! Which later caused the KO of Pikachu!
  • Ash then used Fletchling to KO Surskit.
  • Viola used Vivillon, which destroyed poor little Fletchling. Giving the win to Viola.
  • Ash heads for the Pokémon Center after his defeat.
  • Ash and Serena have a proper greeting.
  • Alexa and her Noivern help Ash, Pikachu, and Fletchling with some balance training. (to stand up to Vivillon's Gust)
  • And to end the episode, Serena finally asks Ash if he remembers her!
Over all, an awesome episode, especially the realistic battle scenes! (Surskit skating on ice! <3)

If you have watched the Japanese sub series, please don't post spoilers on what will happen next! ~ Thank you. :)
