Pokemon Top Toy Property in the World, Surpasses a Billion Dollars in Sales for 2024!

I believe it is "Publishing" and not "Punishing".

Can we redirect any of these profits to improving the video games? No? Can we use it to hire enough people to finish the game and make it run smoothly and look good? Also no? The most profitable franchise and one of the best selling video game series is going to continue to produce horrible quality games while most other developers and publishers continue to improve their products? Got it.
If it sells, they will continue their crappy quality games. Just pointing that out :D

Back when I started PokeBeach in 2003, "Pokemon is dead!" was a popular phrase at school. But I always believed in it!
My school was more yu-gi-ooooohhhhhh!

I guess on the topic of toys, to this day I still don't know why the Iono/Bellibolt figure on Pokemon Center was always at $329.99. Their other figures normally went for like $120ish, and Leon himself at the same time is $100 less than Iono? Never made sense.

Hey Pokemon, if you wanna increase toy sales might I kindly suggest keeping them under $250 at least lol.
Weird, is no problem here at all or for me in general ? It isn’t that hard to just order it.

I dont believe this article. Pokemon publishing a report to say they are #1? Seems like a conflict of interest. Pokemon is probably like #420 and not even worth scalping. Stop scalping guys, the fad is over. Stop scalping for sure.
I had a stroke trying to read this paragraph.

Just informing fellow scalpers like me that pokemon is not worth scalping anymore, theyre just padding numbers

Ah, I see. So your gonna leave scalping and become a honest and righteous member of society since it's not worth it right?

im not talking secondary market - all of their own products have sold out instantly on their direct websites for the last several months. sure they could print more and make even more money, but scalpers will just snatch that up too, and it won’t matter to them either way.

there’s still no incentive to prevent all the many ways these people acquire product to resell, bc that is a part of the market they have nothing to do with. once the product is out of their hands, whether to scalpers or actual players/collectors, what do they care? whether they print ten thousand booster boxes of a set or ten million, they have no reason to care who buys their products or how much they resell it for - they make the money either way
As to your first point, I believe that you just described an incentive to print more. You stated that they could print more and make more money because people would buy it either way. That assessment directly shows incentive to print more.
Regarding the second point, preventing scalping is good for sales in the long run. Speculative buying eventually crashes, so having loyal fans who continue to buy after the crash is a huge incentive for long-term success.

maybe i'm being overly doomer but i feel like artificial scarcity is more profitable for the pokémon tcg

one part of what has made these sets sell out like crazy is the sense of rarity. the idea that "if i can't get it as soon as possible, then i won't be able to get it ever again".

if a set gets overprinted, there's going to be less of an allure for scalpers. which is indisputably a good thing on a human level! but scalpers are unfortunately some of the consumers with the most money to spend. without that allure of artificial rarity, these scalpers won't be fighting each other at costco trying to get their hands on the product. which again, is a GOOD thing for every fan. but if that anti-scalper policy isn't the 100% most profitable method for the company, i'm scared it won't happen & that their public statements are lip service rather than tangible plans for action.
I like your reasoning here, however I believe an increase in stock would still be highly profitable due to just how bad it is right now. A year ago, my locals sold all their stock of packs every time. Today, they still sell all their stock, but because they have way less, they have to sell it for twice the price. We have dozens of locals who want to buy cards, but can't because they are either sold out or marked up. The mark-up doesn't help Pokemon, as distributor prices stay the same, and people are left not wanting to buy cards. Even scalpers get harmed by this because if the stores already mark up prices, then they make less money back when reselling too. Packs still run out just as fast as a year ago, but everyone has to pay double.

As for this statement, printing more and more product takes both time and money, which is often underestimated on how much power that takes. It's not as simple as snapping your finger and everything gets printed within a few months, there's a whole process known as "Print to table" (trademark pending.) Also stopping speculative buying and scalping, while having long term success, actually hurts pokemon more, as the buyouts become more scarce and more pokemon sets and product continues to sit there. Now this is NOT me defending scalping, this is me saying that scalping, while horrible, is a apart of why pokemon is doing more successful now. Scalpers, Investors, Influencers and Streamers make up quite a big chunk of sales (excluding brick and mortar, online shops, and retail stores) while Loyal fans make up a smaller majority.

You also have to keep in mind that a LOT of those "loyal fans" Have stopped buying and even left due to this unfortunate situation. It takes a while to gain those fans back, and I think that printing more isnt a effective method as one might think.

Read a bit deeper and your point that stopping scalping hurts pokemon more is fair, but because I believe this company will be around for decades more, they have a strong incentive for long term methods of making money. Scalpers just ain't it forever.

I changed agree with everything to agree with a lot and now the message disappeared for approval. It probably doesn't make sense to show the second without the first, so here it is.

I just think there are so many other things to buy for $329.99 instead of the Iono figure. It doesn't light up or do anything extraordinary, to me it feels no different than the Skyla or Elesa figures that released prior (for maybe around $120 each)... I'm sure Iono also fails to ever sell out for good reason. I can't be the only one thinking "I just don't see the value for that cost."
