Pokemon vs. Digimon

Haha lol, I'm just started to watch it again (started a few days ago). From the beginning. Here in the Netherlands we only got the first two seasons. The first one I still remember, although I'll watch it again to get into it again. The 2nd season I only remember vaguely, only the characters. I haven't seen enough to understand the whole plot. So yeah I'm looking forward to it :) Although I get the feeling after the 2nd (or 3rd) everthing gets more messed up and complicated, I don't hope so...

theres only one reason I ever watched digimon, Renamon <3 I had a crush on her when I was younger :3

Making this topic on a Pokemon forum? This is blasphemy :D

More to the point, although I didn't know much about Digimon before, I thought it was very largely a Pokemon ripoff (due to such terms used as digivolve and every name ending in -mon), and that Pokemon so totally outclasses it. However, I know a friend who knows quite a lot about it, and after he basically told me the gist of it, I realize that it's more of a whole new concept. Granted there are similarities, but none of it is quite the same. For example, I have heard the Digimon anime is actually good, compared to Pokemon, which now is like lololololol

Although I still believe Pokemon utterly outclasses Digimon in terms of gameplay and popularity, Digimon still has its redeeming features. This is coming from someone who never actually experienced Digimon for himself but always sat looking from the sidelines. DNA out.

I watched the first 3 seasons of digimon, and I was fairly entertained by the first two. The third one was when I started to lose interest. Then of course, Digimon had that card game, which I tried to get into. Bought the starter deck thing, and let me say this, I never figured out how to play that **** game. It was way too complicated, much easier to learn magic. Overall, I lost interest in digimon and pokemon same time frames I guess for the anime's, both around season 3. But I say pokemon is still better due to the video games and card game.

I used to watch madly when I used to live in England, then I lost track after that. I also used to watch Pokemon as well. I have only 2 Digimon cards and I also don't even know how to play the game.

Almost everyone already had it spot on.

Digimon Anime is way better than the pokemon anime. Let's say they both recycle storylines but at least Digimon can mask it, use new characters, utilize old ones and introduce a ton of innovations (look at the digivice over the seasons) Whereas Pokemon has no effort whatsoever in trying to hide the fact that they are using the same story for over a decade now.

But because the Pokemon games (DSTCG) are way better and easier, they are able to overpower Digimon.

varit versus random digimon dude

varit: go toxicroak *pishh click* *croak*
random digimon dude: HolyAngemon show these people how a real battle's done!
varit: *taken aback* he's so pretty and shinny, can we touch?
random digimon dude: no you may not you naive..f..ool...? *CROAK*
varit: just poison pretty shinny dude *TOXIcroaK* *zippo toward, shlink, zippo away*
random digimon dude: holy angel I can't recall your name off hand mon, are you okay?
HolyAngemon: no.. *passes out*
varit: *walking away* dude he should have just let us touch the angelmojigg.
toxicroak: CROAK!!!!

and that's how you pwn digimon, with poison, get your's now to tko those annoying digimon, and if they use an unkown G you know it's a pokemon in a digimon suit. cya

P.S. digimon was okay when I was a kid, I can stomach it but find it very boring except for the 3rd season when they implemented the card game.

There's no question that Pokemon is more popular than Digimon, primarily because it came first and/or Digimon wasn't marketed very well compared to pokemon.

The cartoon, on the other hand, is miles ahead of pokemon in terms of actual substance. There's an actual storyline and not an excuse to force the main characters into new regions for the sole purpose of advertising. Still, I wish they didn't turn Digimon into some power rangers type of game where the humans can morph into digimon themselves. It just doesn't feel the same, thats all. The concept of digivolving is actually pretty cool, as you don't have to keep the monsters in one form permanently.

In terms of characters, I will always stick by augumon.

...there's a Digimon card game?

Digimon's actually had quite a few card games over the years. Two Japanese games (not counting Battle Terminal) and three english games. In english there's been Digi-Battle, D-Tector, and Digimon CCG none of which are still running today. Japan had Hyper Colosseum and Alpha. But HC cards and Alpha cards were still compatible with each other despite being separate games, unlike all of Bandai America's iterations which have been standalone.

Chances are we'll even be seeing a new Digimon card game in Japan sometime this year with the new anime series due out in July. Exciting times for Digimon fans! =)

I love this franchise. :D

In terms of the anime, the first seasons were the best, but I do love all the seasons.. so..
Though I do feel that the last series tried to make the characters a bit too grown up in comparison to other seasons.. the style of the show seemed a bit different, too.
And yes, compared to pokemon, the show is much better. Don't get me wrong, I love pokemon.. but the anime nowadays doesn't do it justice, while digimon's storyline seems much better.

My favourite digimon is probably hawkmon.. though I do love patamon too. :]

Digimon
Pokemon
Both have "mon" in them. I actually liked watching both, until I moved, and couldn't watch Digimon, because it didn't come, but I still watched Pokemon. :L

I have to say Digimon is better in terms of anime. Every season just got better (Except for the fifth one, the blond hair dude just ruined it for me), most of the episodes actually mattered to the plot, it didn't frequently point out the obvious, and it wasn't as child friendly as the Pokemon anime.

In terms of games, I would have to say Pokemon because I haven't played any of the Digimon games.

It seems like (after looking at Wikipedia), that a new series of Digimon is being created. It will be airing in Japan in summer of 2010.

Awesome awesome. :D

I've been waiting for this for a while. :>
It says that the characters will be closer to that of the first four seasons, so that's great news. Not familiar with any of the digimon names though, but I think that's a good thing, too. :]

Digimon games are pretty solid. Nothing too special, but still entertaining. There have definitely been a handful of duds though, Digimon Racing being the game that comes to mind first.

I know what you mean and there was a time when the Pokemon Anime used to be great back around the first few seasons from Indigo League to Master Quest but after Season 5 it started to go downhill from there. It's a shame really cause Pokemon is an amazing franchise that needs an Anime to do justice for it which it did, the movies are pretty good but they'll get better.

The same storylines, fillers, and recycled plot twists get old after awhile. Team Rocket comes to steal Pikachu away from Ash, Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt, Team Rocket blasts off again, rinse and repeat. It's almost like this with the exception of the Gym, League, and Contest Battles as those are the main highlight of the series.

Though I will admit that Pokemon Season 12 is getting a bit better with Ash facing off against Paul in the Sinnoh Conference after his humiliating defeat against him last time.

That last battle against Ursaring was amazing, Paul's battle strategies that time was built to counter anything Ash tried to dish out and it backfired most notably Flame Body and Guts from both Magmortar and Ursaring. Not trying to put Ash down or anything but Paul was in sync that whole battle as Ash well, is just Ash... -____-

Digimon really reminds me of what the recent Bakugan: Battle Brawlers/New Vestroia series is. Though Bakugan isn't even on the same page as Pokemon or even Digimon for that matter. It's a decent anime to watch but the game itself is poorly marketed cause it uses figurines instead of well ya know...

If you're a diehard Pokemon fan then you may rather prefer reading the Manga for it instead of watching the Anime, even then it's hard to find Manga Scanlations for Pokemon unless you got a good source or you're just really lucky.

The Anime is geared toward a younger audience while the Manga is centered to the older audience which from what I don't understand why they made it out like that.

Either way Pokemon still wins in terms of popularity and is the most successful franchise compared to Digimon and Bakugan which isn't really much of a threat at all.
