Pokemon Pokemon You've Always Wanted to Use

Couldn't see any other threads like this, so sorry if this has been a topic in the past.

Are there any Pokemon that you've wanted to use in the games, which you haven't been able to? Either because it came too late in the game, where you had a set team already, or you already had a similar Pokemon on the team.

For me, it has to be Rhyhorn/Rhydon. I've always liked the look of that line, but have never been able to add it into the team, usually because I get too attached with my current team. Aggron is very similar, and I've never been able to do that either. I did have an Aron in my team once, but during that point it wasn't very useful, so became difficult to level up and was replaced.

I've always like Golem as well, but without anyone to trade with, it was difficult. Plus, as you can probably tell, rock/ground types rarely made it in my team for whatever reason.

I guess this is why I like doing challenges sometimes, because it forces you to use Pokemon you don't usually use, and it can lead you to some great ones, like Crobat for example, which is now one of my favourites.

So does anyone else have any Pokemon they'd like to be able to include, but haven't been able to yet?

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

I wanted to use a Hydreigon ingame in B/W, but considering how late they're in game, as well as how late they are to evolve it didn't really work (I like to have a full team by 6-7th Gym, and I don't really like having to grind a ton for evolution as well)

Braviary was another one in B/W, with the same circumstances as Hydreigon, but B2/W2 redeemed it by giving a free one not too far into the game.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

Personally I wanted to use noivern but it came waaaay too late and I already was juggling like thirty pokemon.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

I wanted to use Malamar but I already had both a Psychic and a Dark type on my team.

I wanted to use Aegislash because I really like the concept and design, but I don't think I'd be able to use its ability very well.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

I always wanted to have an Alakazam back in Emerald, but due to me not having a link cable, it was never possible to have one.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

Mewtwo (Pokemon Yellow): I only caught this Pokemon once. Unfortunately, soon after I got it, one of my brothers "kidnapped" it.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

A lot of the Pokemon in BW2 that I wanted to use were too late in the game to be useful. Gliscor, Metagross, Tyranitar, Mienshao, Yanmega, Hydreigon, Vanilluxe, I really hated how most of the good stuff was at the very end of the game. The entire game had pretty poor distribution for that matter.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

I remember when the hype for XY was reaching its peak, I had my eyes set on Gogoat.
But I never did implement him on my team. Reason was, I couldn't find him.

Later, I found out that it's an uncommon encounter on Route 5, but by then, I already had a grass type on my team: Paige the Gourgiest.

RE: Pokemon you wanted to use

Had Pokemon Sapphire, and REALLY wanted a Zangoose, but as you may or may not know, that Pokemon is Ruby exclusive. At the time I didn't know this, and even though the Pokedex said there was no area with him, I tried my damn hardest. I went to the route that had Serviper in it, then used the Pokedex to spam the cry of a Serviper and Zangoose (did them both and different patterns and orders etc.). Eventually I gave up, but to this day I haven't been able to have one on my Team, hopefully with the Gen3 remakes coming out I can change that. Note that this was when I was much younger, and didn't think of just looking it up on the internet.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Jellicent, Sawsbuck, Hydreigon, Seismitoad, Zebstrika, Golurk, Musharna, all in B2 and all because they're only available latter in the game and by then I already had my main team trained and since the post-game is rather weak and there's no Pokémon following us, I lost most of my interest in training other Pokémon, unlike what happened in HG. The only ones I did trained were the Grass ones but I didn't IV trained them or anything, just breed them.
Seriously, Marill and Psyduck are the only Water types available in the beggining? I had finished HG and so was sick of Marill and I already trained a Psyduck in Platinum! Having to wait until the post game to obtain a Super-Rod is terrible!

Back in HG my issue was only with Flying-types. I trained a Fearow in LG that I still cherish and love till today, I don't like the Pidgey line and Noctowl has an akward head when seen from behind. Since I don't like Psychic-types, Natu wasn't an option. Had to wait until reaching Fushia and migrated a Skarmory from Emerald.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Heatmor is always too late, as is Rotom. I actually did catch a Deino though in White2 and took it into my team.
I also wanted to use Nidoking in W2 and in X but it was pretty late in W2 too, also Ryhorn. Also I didn't find Scraggy in X, apparently it's only in hordes huh. Also Noivern in X, although in the end I got it like just before league I think? -_- But it's the less trained one in my party.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Pretty much all Pokemon that require a trade lol
But in Platinum, in Victory Road, I battled that Dragon trainer who had two Gabites, and I was in love with that Pokemon. It looked so cool, was a dragon type, and knew earthquake. Although access to this Pokemon is as early as Post 2nd gym, I didn't realize

A) The Garchomp line even existed untill I battled that trainer in Victory Road
B) Where the hell to find Gible, as I checked the Pokedex and it was saying under cycling road, but I didn't realize there was a hidden passage under the road.

So, that bummed me out, but I eventually got one, and I always get one now on all my playthroughs.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Mainly talking about R/B/FR/LG.
I've always wanted trade pokes but never had anyone to trade with back in the link cable days. Never gone through a Pokemon game with first gen trades and they're among my favourite Pokemon. The cooler Pokemon are just sometimes impractical to use in game. I've wanted to use Tauros and Chansey a lot of times before but either couldn't catch them in the safari zone or they came at a bad place in the game level-wise and type-wise.
Tentacruel sounds like a weird one but it's in my top three water types. I don't think you can even find one until you get Surf and by that time you have other options that are higher level.

The games certainly do have some balancing issues. I just wished the Pokemon variety was a lot more dense in areas. X/Y covered that pretty well though.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Pokemon Y gave me the opportunity to finally train a laundry list of Pokemon I'd been wanting to train forever... Starmie, Sawsbuck, Ninetales, Arcanine, Dewgong, Volcarona, and Eelektross, among others.

I've wanted to train a Snorlax since the first gen, but he just never fit my battle style. Glaceon always seemed fun, but I always picked other Eeveelutions over it. Breloom looked neat, but I rarely had a Shroomish to train before X/Y. Electivire and his entire line have always stuck in my mind as something I needed to train, but aside from working on an Elekid in W2, I never made any progress before finding another Electric type I enjoyed more. Pure Normal-Type Pokemon in general have really eluded me since day one...I have a hard time getting behind anything that has no natural type advantages, yet there are many interesting ones like Zangoose, Snorlax, and Porygon-Z.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Dratini. :< I was never good at Safari Zone or fishing. I did finally get one in the Game Corner is my second playthough of SS, which was nice.

Another big one is Alakazam. Kadabra was always my go-to Psychic Pokémon because I love this line and its design, and you could usually get an early-game Abra for training, but I was never able to do trade evolutions until late in 4th gen. I did actually play through with an Alakazam in the same SS playthrough where I got my first Dratini, too. :D

I also really wanted to play with the Deino line in BW, but they're not available until too late in the game, so I had to give him a pass then, too.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

I really wanted a Chansey in LeafGreen when I was younger. I spent so much time hunting it down in the Safari Zone, but it constantly slipped away from me D:

Eventually I gave up :(

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

Gengar and Alakazam. Never had a Link Cable or someone to trade with. And in X & Y, I had the opportunity, just didn't have the space for one because I'd always get my hands on them rather late into the main story.

RE: Pokemon You Wanted to Use

There's so many that I can't list them all, and simply, It's most pokemon I want to use on a play through, with very few exceptions, mainly Bidoof.

Though, I usually get so attached to the team I first picked on my first playthrough, I cannot bring myself to switch up my team members most the time and usually play with the same 6 over and over.

RE: Pokémon You've Always Wanted to Use

I always wanted a Raichu (from my starter Pikachu) at my Pokemon Yellow game.
But I still don't know if that is possible...

So hereby the question: How can my starter in Pokemon Yellow (Pikachu) evolve?
At the other games it's possible to do that with a Thunderstone, but now in Pokemon Yellow ;)

I think the only way to do it is to transfer the Pikachu to a different Gen.1 game (or gen2), evolve it there and then trade it back to Yellow.
