Vulgina – Darkness – HP90
Stage 1 – Evolves from Vulchi
[D] Sneak Attack: Choose 1 of your opponent’s Pokemon that already has damage counters on it, and do 50 damage to that Pokemon.
[D][C][C] Punishment: 40 damage. If your opponent’s Active Pokemon is a Stage 2 Evolved Pokemon, this attack does an additional 60 damage.
Weakness: Lightning (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 1

I was looking through the future Black and White pokemon cards and found this guy, and I thought, "Hey, this could be a good counter for LostGar."
100 damgage on stage 2 Pokemon. Add a Special Dark Energy and all Gengars are gone. Add Crobat G, and you can snipe benched Mews or Uxie. This can work great on what is soon to be some of our greatest threats out there. Sadly, this deck doesn't do amazing against SP, so it might not be amazing till they are rotated out, but it's still a grand counter against Gengar, becoming even more and more popular. Opinions?

It could work, just be careful of Luxray GL Lv. X with Bright Look. That would suck If LostGar plays that to counter against Mandibuzz (Vulgina).

This is a good card as a counter, and it could very well work. I think the energy cost (clearly less with DCE, but still 2 energy) hinders it a bit, as well as the low HP (for a Stage 1) and weakness (because of Luxray and maybe Magnezone, depending on the meta). As far as sniping goes, Crobat G and Mandibuzz come 10 HP away from KOing any pixies, but a PokéTurn/SSU can work wonders.

doesnt gengar have a 2x weakness to dark?
so i think umbreon prime or houndoom prime would work

Umbreon and Houndoom could work, but there are just a lot of other cards that are better. Umbreon requires the same attack cost as Vulgina, but you need at least two more Eeveelutions on your Bench to one-shot Gengar Prime. That's going to take more setup time. For Houndoom, while you do one-shot Gengar Prime, you don't get the DCE advantage.

Houndoom needs 3 energy. That's waaayyyyy too many; you'd lose nearly every match besides against LostGar.
Umbreon is okay, but really not the best. As Gliscor said, 2 Eeveelutions on bench is enough to OHKO Gengar Prime with Evoblast; however, you could also use a Special Dark and DCE with 1 Eeveelution benched to OHKO Gengar, also. Of course, 2 Special Darkness Energy is too much, as they would be difficult to get out of the deck and you would need 3 energy, which is still slow.

Umbreaoon UD works well against all gengars. The abilty to do 1 shot Gengar Prime and lvl x with an E-belt and 2 SP. Darks is quite good given the effect of Moonlight Fang. Not only does it help with all Genagrs, but it helps with other match up's such as.:
Machamp Prime
RegiGigais
Charizard
Magnezone and co.
Yanmaega
ect.

I pereffer being able to counter many decks well than just 1 deck amazingly. Because this is an amazinbg Gar counter, but thats it.

^Maqchamp Prime has Machamp SF, which says bye-bye to Umbreon. Yanmega and Magnezone aren't very popular. It does well against Charizard and 'Gigas, but non-leveled-up SPs can beat Umbreon, as well as Gyara, which are common in many metas. Umbreon's annoying, but needing 2 Sp. Darks and an E-Belt is pretty slow and frankly, LostGar will have great recovery, so it doesn't help that much.

With Machamp SF, you should be able to predict it, and if not it takes 2 heads with a hurricane punch and an e-belt with take out to get a knock out. Not to metion with out fighting tag, they have to discard 3 energeis to retreat as they don't run switch and warp point defeats the purpose of it.

In addtion there are only a few Machamps in my meta and they run, if at all, 1 SF Machamp. Beacause maybe only 1-3 out of th top 10 players play a SP deck in my Meta.

Regice LA for Regi Move is better, gets around Trainer Lock from VileGar or If you are
running a 1-1 Dialga G Lv. X tech with Warp Energy you can get away with running Junk Arm.
If you don't have Regice LA then Registeel LA is a good substitute.

Best Gengar Prime counter currently I'd have to say is Honchkrow SV, with the amount of Basic and SP Pokemon LostGar plays it shouldn't be that hard to Riot for a ton of damage with a Special Dark and a DCE attached. Unown Q would help greatly as well.

^yea, but why would there be trainer lock in lostgar if you need to be fast and consistant??? this thread is talking about lostgar, not vilegar

Only thing is if the play SF Gengar or Gengar X, Regice becomes an easy prize\lost zone.

[more of a joke realy...]
EDIT: You could just play:
3 Mew Prime
2 Ryperior Lv.X=5

4 Collector
4 Bebe's
1 Luxury ball
4 Palmers
4 Flower Shop Lady=17

38 {P}

Now you laugh at Gengar Prime.

Sounds great!
Avoid LuxChomp (or pref. all sp) at all costs.
And to get those little pesky Celebi prime just Flash bite twice, attach {C}, and fire away!

Has anyone considered Absol Prime as a counter against LostGar? They have Gengar Prime out, you use
Vicious Claw for 140 damage (counting Weakness) at the cost of helping your Opponent get their won-con with Lost World by sending a Pokemon from your hand to the Lost Zone everytime you attack with Absol Prime. The Cons outweigh the Pros of the card itself, Absol Prime is too much of a double-edged sword to consider using to hit Gengar Prime before it has a chance to Hurl into Darkness.

I'd much rather prefer running Honchkrow SV or Absol G Lv. X honestly, at least with Absol G Lv. X it's Poke-Power Darkness Send is optional so that you don't risk sending a Pokemon into the Lost Zone with it and Honchkrow SV can deal alot of damage with Riot granted on how many Basic and SP Pokemon the LostGar player is running like Palkia G, Sableye SF, Spiritomb AR, Mew Prime, and Mr. Mime (Call of Legends).

It also makes for a great tech against SP variants and Gyarados, Oh I'll just Darkness Restore a Magikarp to where Gyarados does less damage with Tail Revenge. Memory Berry would help get rid of Expert Belt but it's not needed. I could also see Honchkrow SV shine against MewPerior since the majority of the deck consists of Basic Pokemon, yeah I'll just Riot for 80+ damage with a Special Dark and DCE attached.

Yea, if it fits in your deck and meta game, Houchkrow is the best counter as of yet. I perffer Umbreon though, it just fits better in my meta. But if you have alot of Gyras and LostGars, go with Hounchkrow.

Darkrai & Cresselia Legend would be interesting. Get two darks and a DCE and not only do you one-shot them soundly, you send them to the lost zone, perhaps making them a little worried about playing that Lost World? Also, you can just put the DCE in the lost zone for its attack and attach another one next turn. Pretty quick recovery imo. Also, with 150 HP, it won't be dying anytime soon to Gengar Prime.

It could work, just a little to slow for my taste. I like the HP and being able to win by there lost world is they misplay and play it early. For now I still think that Hounchkrow is the best counter, and will be replaced by Vulgina.
