PTCGO's Future...

The Hybrid

What do you guys think about PTCGO holding online tournaments and later down the road it possibly counting towards your points standings and maybe affecting your worlds invite or even PTCGO having it's own thing at big time tournaments like nats/regs/worlds?

I think it's awesome. It's just what the Pokemon TCG needed to do to increase support on the game.

Now, with that being said, I'm not sure _exactly_ how points and such will work, but I have heard that it could end up being used for potential invites. The only small gripe I have with this is that you do need to buy code cards (either to open packs or to trade online packs for cards), and with that, I'm not sure how many invites would actually be fair to the people who already have to buy cards and go to a lot of events.

Overall, I think this is a step in the right direction. Depending on what the future gives us, this could be a very nice tool to be used.

dmaster out.

As long as they quit rebooting the PTCGO's data banks then I think it has a bright future, I mean how would you feel If you spent money getting codes out of booster packs to get "digital" cards online only for all that data to get deleted for a new system of playing PTCGO? I wouldn't be too happy. Then again If it were up to me I'd rather play Pokemon TCG the old-fashioned way...

PTCGO is a great replacement for RedShark to test decks and such for tournaments but it still doesn't beat the real thing of actually getting out of your house playing cards with your friends instead of feeling like you're playing on a MMORPG for 24 hours straight which is what PTCGO is. There's already other forms of entertainment media for that, it's called video games. If I want to play cards I'll play physical cards not digital cards, I rather choose video games over playing with digital cards anyday.

PTCGO is definitely cool, but I'd rather see it used more as a tool to promote the REAL card game. I know for me personally it's already hard enough to find people in my area to play with, and if a greater competitive emphasis started getting put on the online game I feel that would further decrease the chances of any local leagues/tournaments popping up.

PTCGO shouldn't affect rankings IMO. Why? It should be a way to practice the game, and it would be unfair to force people to maintain two decks that they have both in real life and online. I have other problems with the program itself, but I won't go into detail here. I don't really bother with the online game, but tournaments would be cool to see.

Personally, I find TCGO to be okay, but one thing that bugs me is how slow it is. After using Redshark for a long time, I've gotten used to being able to go at a fast pace when practicing. So when I try to use TCGO, it seems like it takes forever to do anything. Just my 2 cents.

TCGO still has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. It takes a very long time to load, and I experience a bit of glitching during my games. I wish there was an easier way to get new cards than from actually having to purchase them from Target or Walmart or whatever, and scanning the code. I wish you could win a pack or two after beating the AI or something.

The Trainer Challenge isn't working for me either. I'm on Battle 11, or something very close to the finals, and the -> button to get me to the game doesn't even show up. I'm disappointed.

The idea is great, but there's a bit of work that needs to be done if this online card game is going to match that of Magic's.

This must be done before they consider rankings and stuff.

Word. This is pretty much one of the main reasons I primarily still use playtcg instead. Obviously I'd rather use the official, more sophisticated program, but I'm not going to blow a ton of money just to playtest a fake digital deck I'm not sure I want in real life yet. Hopefully this is something that gets addressed when the game exits beta.

PTCGO should not affect ratings. Having two collections to keep up with is stupid, and it will be hard to standardize the ratings so that both work well in conjunction with each other.

PTCGO is still less than the other simulators we use. It is the most official, but it is by far the worst. They need major improvements before it is even close to worthwhile.

In real life you can go trade or buy any spare Collectors, Donphan Primes, or other miscellaneous staples you might need.
In PTCGO, you can't do any such thing, from what I heard.

There's too much of a random factor behind the acquisition of cards in PTCGO. It should not replace the physical TCG by any means or even compare to it.

random and you never get what you need, over 50 backs of hs on there and 0 donphan primes >.<

but i think most of the problem right now is that there is way more cards in real life than online
think about it, all packs printed from the last 6 sets means 10 more legal cards, plus the reprints we can use and promos

but ptcgo only has as many packs as there are of EP and a handful of BW, meaning cards themselves on there are a lot more scarce, this will probably change as more sets are released and cards are rotated though.

Love the TCGO or at least the idea of it. So much more convenient for me then finding people locally to play at least at an "official" level.

That said, my concers are:

A) Are they really putting forth the effort to make it successful. At times it seems as though its being done halfa**. Its been in beta stages for months now with only minor fixes. It still has A LONG way to go before it is a polished game...and its a flash game at that. I just question how much developing power they are really throwing at the project. At the current rate I dont think the game will be a "finished/polished" game for another year at the very least.

B) My biggest concern is what happens once expansions are no longer legal format. I mean if ive spent lots of $$$$ on HGSS expansions and once they become no longer legal, does that mean I just lost all that money?? This isnt like physical TCG where we can collect or sell our old cards...these digital cards are useless once we can no longer use them.

Refund X amount to be used towards packs? Something like that? That'd be neat.

Yeah that would be ideal! I mean im assuming they will do something but until then its still a concern haha.

I want a way to test with any cards you want eve if you don't have them from booster packs.

You all do know there is a coming soon section and when you mouse over it it says "Tournaments" right? I really do wonder what that is. (you can find it next to where you select single player and multi player battles)

Also I wish I could put cards on my wants list that I don't have, I mean what's the point of them even letting you want a card if you can't put it on your wants list because you don't have 1 copy!

They had initially made a tournaments option available after one of their huge updates back this summer. Needless to say it didnt work at all so the scrapped it and put "coming soon" back up. From what was stated winners of tournaments got a pack or two for free.

It's so sad that you have to buy boosters to get digital cards. Why can't you use any legal card like on Redshark? For $$$?

I know MTG had something similar at one time (probably still do?) I think some things being virtual dont need to be virtual, I think PTCGO is one of them, although I fully support deck testing by this method, but you cant deck test if you dont have online what you have in your real life deck.
