Raichu SV: Can an uncommon breathe new life into an old deck?

Besides the fact that I'm a raichu collector, and get excited over every new raichu, I think this one actually has some promise. It may not look like much, but it is a good card when you consider the deck as a whole.

In order to make raichu work well, you need 5 energy in your hand the turn you play it. One to attach, and 4 to voltage shoot. Thats the ideal. The problem is, I can almost never get that to work. So I knock out something piddly with voltage shoot, and then burst ball their active, so I can at least get two knockouts. Which sets me back three turns on energy. SV raichu gives you an alternative which does 80 damage spread with no discard. And it doesn't make you lose a precious energy off of your active raichu like split ball.

One of the nicest things about Gigashock is that it overcomes one of the bigger problems with Raichu's snipe attack; its inability to do anything other than 80 or 160 snipe. You can now take out Uxie X, or all of the pixies while Snowpoint is in play (which it always seems to be). Since almost all decks have pixies or claydol, it means you can just about always get a free KO. Lastly, Gigashock + voltage shoot allows you to hit that critical 140 damage on their active easily, which lets you take out nearly any pokemon. And while only discarding 2 energy.

So what do you guys think? Am I overreacting?

Yes, this card is terrible outside of PRs.

Raichu is pretty slow, and it can't really beat much. Plus Dialga G shuts down the deck(DPL)

It looked OK, but it really isn't good at all.

I'll admit, without a good start raichu is very slow. I completely disagree about dialga though. It keeps you from using the body, sure, but you can still use all of your attacks. Plus 95% of a raichu deck is resistant to dialga, making its already small damage output even more pitiful. Lastly, Dialga hasn't been present in the metagame lately because of how thoroughly it gets beaten by luxape.

Raichu loses to everything even Machamp which is kind of sad in today's format.

Hmm... I got second in a battle roads with raichu. The main problem is most people play it "wrong" in my opinion.

Sunnyshore covers your weakness. I'm pretty sure I could beat a standard machamp deck.

Standard Machamp play Stark Mountain and/or BTS. Play it and you're weakness shows up again.

Dialga G is around in DPL, a very common deck. So don't say it's not around much anymore.

I didn't see a single Dialga G deck at nationals. Not a single one.

That is hilarious. You must've not been at the top tables.

dmaster out.

They were around but not like Gengar, this is in seniors though.

Why should any of the best players care then? Only the competitive ones care about what's in Masters. Raichu has no chance in none of the divisions regardless.

dmaster out.

With Luxray is far better though.

And yeah, Raichu has never been alive. It was bad when it came out.
