Ruling Rainbow energy questions

I was wondering. Some pokemon have the ability to move or do some thing with an energy. Nuzleaf (CG) for example, its attack says "Attach a [d] energy card from your hand to Nuzleaf". If I had a Rainbow energy (or any other varietion of it), could I attach it insted of Dark energy?
Or Dragonite (DS) ability to take electric energys from the discard pile. Would dragonite be able to take a Raibow energy?
Would Ampharous (UF) be able to move a rainbow energy?

Thank you for answering these questions.

You can't attach a rainbow energy from your hand to nuzleaf by using "self charge", because Nuzleaf says attach a dark energy card. Rainbow energy provides dark energy but is a rainbow energy card. Had Nuzleaf's attack said attach a dark energy (notice that "card" is gone), then you could attch rainbow energy.

Dragonite's power says electric energy card, so no rainbow energy.

Ampharos says a basic energy card. Rainbow states specifically that it counts as a special energy card.

In summarization:
1. No
2. No
3. No

gNatFreak I agree with your conclusions but disagree with how you got there on the first two.  :)

The word card isn't important in this, as recent PokeGym ask the masters posts make clear.  It doesn't work because rainbow cards only provide dark/electric energy while attached.  When not attached they don't.  Simple as that.

Also, (I'm looking at the card right now), Nuzleaf says a dark energy card.

What about Holon Magtrode? LBS's blastoice "rain downs" Magtrode to lugia.

: Sigh :

Rainbow energy is a COLORLESS energy until it is in play so NO YOU CANNOT. : ) Doesn't matter if it says Dark Energy or Dark Energy CARD, the fact is that the Rainbow is not a Dark until it is in play.

my friend and i got into this earlier

a double rainbow was attached to latias ex (dragon frontiers)

he knocked out my pokemon

but didn't discard.

thats incorrect, right?

the double rainbow was acting as two fire energies.

But, what if a fire energy is already on latias, and a double rainbow is attached, so it'd only count for one fire, and lets say... a water.

when he knocked me out, would he only have to discard a single basic fire energy?

i hope you can understand that lol.

Why did no one catch this

He didn't say this was an example, he said this happened with his friend. If it's an example, fine, but at least make it a legitimate example.
