Can rare candies evolve basic pokemon to Lvl X if they are normally a stage 2 pokemon?

eg. charmander --rare candy--> charizard x???

RE: Rare Candies?

No, Rare candy can only be used to evolve a Basic Pokemon into a Stage 1 or Stage 2 Pokemon, not a Level X, or from a Stage 1 to a Stage 2.

RE: Rare Candies?

All pokemon Lv.X cards count as the stage of the card underneath it (or beside it depending on how you play) so if the Lv.X is in you hand or deck or anywhere besides in play, then it is only a pokemon. It does not become a stage 1 or 2 or basic stage, untill put into play. So with that being said, there is no possible way you can use a rare candy on a pokemon to level it up.

Hope this clears things up! :D

RE: Rare Candies?

this is beacuse Pokemon Lv.X are not refered to as evolution cards but as Level up cards. rare candy specifically states evolution card which ecludes level up cards.

RE: Rare Candies?

A common mistake is that when you RC, you can avoid the 1 turn X rule. You can not level up the first turn you evolve, or place. Not even via effect or trainer

*edit* except for the flippy awful level max.

Technically, you can with a level max.

wait, so level max lets you evlove your pokemon from basic to X?

level max lets you level up (LV. X) a pokemon the turn you evolve it or play it down. So you can rare candy a trapinch into a flygon and then use level max to level it up, all on the same turn. What you canNOT do it use a level max to, as you said, "evolve your pokemon from basic to X". Meaning you cant use level max on a trapinch and hope to turn it to a flygon X.

A common mistake is that people think leveling up (lv. X) and evolving are the same thing. Leveling up is NOT evolve, and evolving is NOT leveling up. They're two completely different processes and have their own (although similar) rules. So it is incorrect to even say "evolve into an X" because you don't evolve into an x, you level up into one.

As I understand it, Level Max also allows you to level up a pokemon still on your bench. The text on LV. X cards seems to indicate that you can (typically) level X an active pokemon. With Level Max, it seems would be able to level up a pokemon on your bench even though it's not active.

wow, really?

i'm not sure if this was reliable if i'm allowed to post or not,

http://compendium.pokegym.net/compendium-lvx.html

but that site there I've been using as a resource with friends,

i did not know, say like, I put down Larvitar into play during my turn into my bench, that I couldn't use Rare Candy right away to make it Tyrannitar??! x)

?? generally the compendium is very reliable. It's like the online rulebook of rules that aren't in the actual rulebook(lol).

But I don't know where you got that above thought. If you play a Larvitar into play during your turn on your bench then you ARE allowed to use a rare candy to evolve it into a tyranitar right away. The only time you are not allowed to do this would be when you can't play your rare candy (ie: trainer locked, or its the very first turn of the game). During the first turn of the game, the player that goes first is not allowed to use any supporters, stadiums, or trainers. However, the player that goes second is allowed to use all of the above. Since rare candy allows you to bypass normal evolution rules, you are legally allowed to rare candy your larvitar into a tyranitar.

i apologize!

i am quite a new player to this game and have never even gone anything past some casual play with friends who are as new and clueless as i am, ahah,

and i must've mistaken what the other users have posted in this thread,
are they talking just about Level X pokemon? ahah.

i thought they were saying you can't Rare Candy at all during the turn you would put a Pokemon in play, x) !!
