Standard Raticate BREAK / Ariados

Alright, so I've built a preliminary deck, but I need some advice with adding/removing cards since I'm not in the least in-touch with the metagame at the moment.

Anyway, here's the list:

Pokémon (22)
  • 4 Spinarak (AOR)
  • 4 Ariados (AOR)
  • 2 Durant (BKP)
  • 4 Rattata (BKP)
  • 4 Raticate (BKP)
  • 4 Raticate BREAK (BKP)
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums (22)
  • 2 Brigette
  • 1 Lysandre
  • 1 Pokémon Fan Club
  • 1 Professor Birch's Observations
  • 4 Tierno
  • 2 Acro Bike
  • 2 Energy Retrieval
  • 3 Level Ball
  • 2 Red Card
  • 2 Revitalizer (Generations)
  • 2 Ultra Ball
Energy (16)
  • 4 Double Colorless Energy
  • 12 Grass Energy
Strategy:

I think it's pretty obvious to anyone who's read the cards, but here it is.
Get Raticate BREAK out as active, with Ariados on the Bench. Use Poisonous Nest Ability on Ariados to Poison opponent's Active, doesn't affect Raticate because Antibodies. Super Fang for almost KO, poison damage between turns KOs opponent's Active.

Alternate cards
V2(changes from V1, listed above):
-2 Tierno
-2 Brigette
+1 Professor Birch's Observations
+2 Trainer's Mail
+1 Wally (this is for insta-evolving Rattata; should probably have more Wally in the deck)

V3(changes from V2):
-2 Tierno
-1 Ariados
-1 Spinarak
-2 Grass Energy
-1 Pokémon Fan Club
+2 Professor Sycamore
+1 Wally
+1 Super Rod
+1 Sacred Ash
+2 Time Puzzle

The Durant is amazing, to say the least, if I'm not yet prepared with my Ariados and/or Raticate BREAK. I'll admit, this deck is weak to Bats, but if you have Wally it's not as weak to them. I also don't know how much Bats are played any longer.

Anyway, that's it! Thanks for reading.

As you say, the deck has a pretty big Bats weakness, so 1 Hex Maniac is a good tech. I don't think you need more than 2-2 Ariados and Spinarak, I certainly wouldn't go above 3-3. I would add 1 Super Rod and 1 Sacred Ash too, just because your stuff's gonna get knocked out a lot.

I would replace the Tiernos with Professor Sycamore, and the Pokemon Fan Club with Wally. I'm testing 3 Wally and it's a really good card for streaming attackers, but 2 Wally may be fine. Also 1 Teammates is amazing in this deck, along with 4 Time Puzzle it basically allows you access to your entire deck AND discard pile once one of your Rats is knocked out.

12 Grass energy is also too much imo, you can get away with 7 or maybe even 6. I suggest running 4 Time Puzzle in the deck, and that will let you get back your DCEs and set up more Rats.

Good luck with it!

Winona may be a good play in this as well as you can get 3 colorless pokemon and they don't have to go to the bench or be basics.

@Ms Hugo Alright, I've replaced some cards, but as of now I'd have to make proxies of the 2 Time Puzzles I have(actually, probably half the cards in my deck at the moment are proxies since BREAKpoint just came out. I plan to buy the missing cards soon), so I'll wait until I get real cards to add the other two. The list, updated, includes these changes(color coded for easier reading):

-2 Tierno
-1 Ariados
-1 Spinarak
-2 Grass Energy (for now, will be replacing excess with cards as I get them)
-1 Pokémon Fan Club

+2 Professor Sycamore
+1 Wally (I would add a third, but as my third is a FA, I'd rather not use it in a deck since I'm also a collector, lol)
+1 Super Rod
+1 Sacred Ash
+2 Time Puzzle

Thanks for the advice as well :).

@crasco Ah, I hadn't thought of Winona, I might actually include that. Seems like a good choice to me. Thanks for the idea.

I've been playing a variant of this deck online a lot and LOVE IT. One thing though - Night March kills it, grass decks kill it, fighting OHKO rats.

I'm playing a variant that runs 6-7 dark energy and 3 Yveltal XY. Helps accelerate energy, DCE is weak to hammers and Xerosic, and gives an alternate attacker to do that last 1 damage if your rats are all dead, and OHKOs night marchers without need to evolve twice. I'm considering running shadow circle too because rats having fighting weakness sucks. I also play Winona and Shaymin for bench setup and draw.

Maybe I need to post as an alternate thread to get advice. Raticate is odd - either it dominates or just falls down dead and I need help finding that balance.

I thought about this deck with:
  • 2x Spinarak
  • 2x Ariados
  • 2x Sceptile-EX
  • 3x Rattata
  • 3x Raticate
  • 3x Raticate BREAK

I like the deck, but it needs some punch. I am not looking for an EX. I hate playing EX's because of the 2 prize cards. Anyone have any ideas?

What about adding Forest of Plants to quickly get Ariados on your bench?

Forest of giant plants isn't bad but since it will take at most 2 turns to get raticate break with Wally so not really needed I like silent lab for this deck.
