Pokemon redesign for Dragonite?

Dragonite has been one of my favorites for a long time, since I first liked Pokemon really but as all these new Pokemon and dragons come out is it time for a redesign? He's chubby with T-Rex arms its really hard to take him serious as the dragon that he is. Thoughts?

Moved to The Pokémon World since it's not TCG-specific.

While some designs have changed over time (most notably Pikachu), that shift was more in the early stages. Therefore, as goofy as Dragonite can sometimes look, I don't think it should happen, nor do I think it will happen.

One of the things Pokémon tries to put out there is that not all powerful Pokémon have to look tough - take the "Cute" Mythical Legendaries for example. They're fairly powerful but their designs certainly focus more on being cute and cuddly than looking fierce and intimidating. With Dragonite, in my opinion they wanted something kindhearted that could also pack a punch. Recent dragons have mainly gone the "they destroy things just by looking at them" route, so Dragonite's pretty original in a sense. It stands out as a powerful yet cute Dragon-Type.

Redesigning it just because it doesn't look as tough as newer Dragons doesn't fit Pokémon's modus operandi. When they want it to look fierce, they certainly can - just check out the way it looked in those B2W2 Anime ads. It'll probably never look as intimidating as the other Dragons, but I think that's how they want it.

Plus some fans might be angry at a redesign of Dragonite. At least Pikachu's was subtle and graduate.

Dragonite is adorable. Your demands to take its somewhat unique traits away from it makes me wonder if you really liked it, or just like the concept of "awesome" dragon designs.

The fact that Dragonite is so large in the first place is threatening enough. Pokemon will be slightly altered each generation, but they won't receive a massive makeover.

Why would Dragonite need a makeover? Plus, its pre-evos would have to go through that too. Poor Dratini and Dragonair.

The only thing that would need a makeover is their names. :p

Sorry about that!

I should have worded it a bit better. I meant "redesign" as in the suble change that pikachu has received throughout the years. I completely agree with everything that has been said and I do enjoy that he is unique and you can tell he's from the first generation which is my favorite and I am by no means demanding for an overhaul I would be mad if they made some drastic change. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about pokemon present and past and thats what brought on the thought I was just wondering if anyone had thought about it as well.

This is Pokemon, enough said. There are plenty of awesome-looking dragons, and there are cute ones. There are scary, tough, cool, and amazing looking Pokemon, but there are cute ones. Just because it's tough doesn't mean it has to look the part. Remember, Pokemon's audience is children, as well as big fans of the series. Dragonite doesn't need a redesign, I personally love it the way it is, and I'm sure many others agree. It doesn't matter if it's cute or cool, their stats, tiers, etc. They especially should not matter to you, if you think Dragonite needs to look so menacing to fit it's stats, then simply don't use Dragonite if you don't really like it's appearance. Not complain about it.

Another note, I honestly don't think you can say Dragonite is your favourite Pokemon if this is the way you think about it.

I don't think they should change the design of Dragonite, or any other Pokemon for that matter. Once the Pokemon's appearance has been released, there should be no going back! I doubt that this will ever happen in the future; it would upset many a Pokemon fan :p.

I think Gamefreak gave Dragonite fans more than an apology for it's appearance by giving it Multiscale for it's Gen 5 Dream World ability. Jussayin'. And hey, not every Pokemon has to be drawn ultimate-super-mega-robo-warrior style. I actually kind of liked Dragonite's goofy appearance in Red and Blue; I still feared fighting it just as much.

Dragonite doesn't need a redesign, but I do wish that the original Green sprite was kept. Looks like it's gonna wreck up some biz.
Yellow I think is where they started to go for more of the friendly giant design. Although, in B/W, it's sprite is very bland and it's just standing there, I still think it could have the potential to destroy some noobs team. There is a reason why Lance is terrifying.

After all, these are just sprites in a game aimed towards the 3+ age group. I'd rather leave the awesomeness to the talented fan artists out there.

Eh, I like the way it looks, but I could care less how threatening it looks. I just want a good Dragonite card for once.

Put it this way, Dragonite may be a pseudo-legendary but it doesn't look like a combat master, I think it looks just fine! :D

awww I love how chubby dragonite is!!! I always loved how is an awesome fast flyer but the wings are disproportional to his body I never saw how that worked out XD But its pokemon, so anything could be possible.I think the strongest pokemon should be the cute fat looking ones! >:{ D He's so cute, I would be so upset if they changed him T-T I love how a cute little snake turns into him hahahah my husband and I joke about it all the time, even after 15 years :p Still hilarious. Dragonite is perfect already imo ; )
