Returning Player - Jumping Straight into Competitive

Hey guys!

Recently, after much deliberation, I decided to get back into the PTCG. It was something I was really into back then but fell off to handle other stuff. But it's something I really miss doing; the deck building, the research, the events, etc. The last time I played I was running an A.M.U deck, and I forgot how many years ago that was lol.

Anyways, I know a lot has changed since then. And I've already did all the research I possibly could do regarding the new cards, new sets, new rules, and just about a couple hours reading different threads on this website. So now I'm ready to start deck building. I'm more of a bulk buyer and honestly just ready to jump right in (disregarding all of these "ease into it" advice, sorry lol). My question is, what are the Top 5 decks to look into right now? As I said I'm more of a bulk buyer so I'm down to grab a few booster boxes/kits/etc. if need be, I just want to make sure I'm buying the right ones. I am looking to start playing competitively again, and from what I read, there's a new rotation is coming.. September? And I believe that was XY - Primal Clash and on, if I remember correctly so any deck I build has to include those cards only. I think. If I understand all these new rules right lol.

But yea! Anyways. Basically any meta-game decks I am bound to run into all the time or see around from most players would be great. Thanks for any and all of your help!

Welcome back to a great game!

We don't really know what will be good in PCL-on next year since we haven't played any events in that format yet. If I'm picking a handful decks, maybe start looking at:

M Rayquaza-EX (Emerald Break)
M Mewtwo-EX (Psychic Infinity)
Darkness builds (Zoroark, Yveltal, etc)
Darkrai-EX/Giratina-EX
M Sceptile-EX
Greninja BREAK
Zygarde-EX (with Vileplume or Garbodor)
Yanmega BREAK

These may be the most "hyped," but I haven't tested PCL-on one bit so I can't vouch for any of these personally. There are other things like Flareon-EX/Volcanion, Magnezone/Raikou, and Rainbow Road (Xerneas) that folks will try to make work.

The most efficient way to buy cards is as singles. I just posted a list of "staples" in another thread here which would be a good read when you get a second.

Thank you so much! I actually started building the Darkrai-EX/Giratina-EX deck. I looked up the most efficient decklist and started mass buying the cards lol.
