Reutrning to the TCG (amazing pull)

Ok so i went out today and bought myself the Typhlosion and Feraligatr GH/SS starter decks along with 20 booster packs from HG/SS
does anyone know what i should try to run or a helpful website (apart from pokemon-go.com) that would be of any help in giving me ideas or help in what sort of deck i should build/ booster packs i should buy?
or if you have opinions i would be very grateful in hearing them, thanks

Pokemon.com is an awful site to look up deck building tips. you're better off looking at the deck garage here. In terms of what you want to run thats really up to you, unless you tell us (the community) what you want to play we can help you build a deck. Its a bit pointless bying random packs from sets unless you want to go into trading online. It would be best to buy cards individually if you want to build a good deck as its cheaper.

I myself have recently returned, and actually originally ran a Flame-min deck I created with the Shaymin cards I have (I happen to <3 Shaymin. ^^''), but I suddenly just got kinda bored, and it never really took off. I then, last September, got a Garchomp Tin and last week, I did the same as you - mass buy HGSS cards, of which I got an Amphy Prime! =D So, I basically ran some kind of Electrostatic Burn deck (which was a mish-mash garbage deck), until I went out and bought a Champ deck and edited it somewhat into a custom SP Deck, though that was because I'll never play in legal events (as such).

So yeah. I personally don't know what you should do, but the people here gave me a link to a 'Deck Building Guide' somewhere on this forum which was very helpful, though the link currently evades me.

Perhaps you should hunt for it?

As far as restarting, if you're playing from just HGSS stuff, look into the Primes (The really shiny pokemon with the starburst border around the picture) you drew (Within 20 packs you should have anywhere from 3-6 of them) and build around them to start.

If you were lucky enough to draw a few Jumpluff, use that. He seems to be good, though only time will tell.

As far as other stuff, Double Colorless Energy is a useful card that's good for decks and for trading. Get 4 for yourself, trade the extras off for your toolbox (Uxie LA, Claydol GE, Roseanne's Research and Bebe's Search).

Remember, don't go overboard on anything Pre-Platinum if you're headed into competitive play. Likely, the Diamond and Pearl sets will be dropped from Organized Play after Worlds in August.

Finally, don't be afraid to experiment with anything you think will be fun. That's how decks are made.
 
well as i bought the Typhlosion and Feraligatr decks (i probably wont buy maganium as i pulled 2 of them and his prime) i was either thinking Electric and Fire, Grass and Ground or Electric and Water
but then i am going on to the garage now.
I want to (Fire and Electric) run a fast kill deck (so lots of bills and oaks i'm thinking) or a team that does serious damage to the opponents bench aswell (Water and Ground/Psychic) so i am now going into research a little bit into decks on the link providee (thanks for that :D) and have a look
also is there any cards that must be in my deck from the past sets...eg Rare Candy?
and what sets from the past can i mix with the new set? (eg Delta Species?)
ps i will be playing my deck in legal tournaments
 
Well you can't play anything from the Delta era as anything before DP is illegal however a few cards you might want/Need:

Roseanne's Research
Bebe's Search
Night Maintenance
Luxury Ball
Rare Candy
Uxie (Legends Awaken)

Also don't play Bill or Potion in a deck as they aren't worth the space.

Meh, I find it useful in guiding him to start.

You're right about Jumpluff, supported correctly, he's a little beast capable of shelling out more than 100 damage for 1. The builds have to be just right, but there's a fantastic article in the Article Submissions forum about him. It'd be a worthy deck to work on.

As far as spread, Look into Gengar AR (Curse) and Gengar X as well as Darkrai Lv X. They've got some fun spreading opportunities.

I went for a 'static burn' deck using Ampharos Prime, Arcanine and Typhlosions as my mains
but i have taken note of the cards you listed 'X_Empoleon_X' and when i go to my first tournament this weekend they will be on my want list :D
