Before I tell the answer, can I just say that this riddle should never be used ever again because it's answer is incredibly convuluted and impossible to get if you previously don't know the riddle. Now, as there are many variations of the answer, please accept what I say despite the possibility of some of the "facts" being different to Celever's variation of the answer:
A man, his wife and his blind son are on a plane, when they crash land on a desert island amongst other passengers. Stranded for weeks, they are forced to starve and hunt for fish. Tragically, the wife dies after being stung by a Man-o-War while out hunting for fish. The husband spots his wife and drags her back on land. The population of fish surrounding the island decreases dramatically as the weeks pass on, to the point where some are forced to starve, the father and son included. The father, with a grim expression, decides to resort to cannibalism and gets his wife's dead body. Then, he hands a leg of the wife to his blind son, telling him that it's a mere seagull. The son eats the leg unknowingly. Finally each passenger is rescued and brought to safety. The man, tearful, tells his son that him and his wife divorced.
In the following years, his life slowly tolling on, he goes to a local sandwich shop and foolishly orders a seagull sandwich. As he takes a bite, he is reminded of the way he and his son ate his wife's dead body, causing him, in a fit of emotion to commit suicide.
I told you it was convuluted.
