RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

STOP WRITING FASTER THAN I CAN READ. IT MAKES ME FEEL BAD THAT I HAVE TO PUT THIS OFF BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER WORK.

Anyway, I'm actually still reading this. I decided there's really no point in focusing chapter on chapter, since you tend to get the details straightened out (Plotholes... we'll find out). But I really am enjoying reading this (despite the ever-growing anxiety of upcoming exams nibbling at my tail).

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

NZ: Yeah Extremespeed is annoying. He's supposed to be like that. :B And Crystal is a bit cry-baby at first. But, quite frankly, can you blame her? She only had her best/only friend torn apart in front of her eyes while she was helpless to do ANYTHING, and then she was stuffed in a cage-wait, do I really need to keep going? I would think she has a right to cry right now. Buuuut that's just me.

CA: No dino that's bacon'z line :< And yay for more Skai :3 But I'm surprised you don't find Mike obnoxious yet rofl. Ah well...

PMJ: Real comment this time plz. :<

Zy: SORRY I CAN'T HELP THE FACT I HAVE BUFFER AND YOU'RE BUSY ;;
Also what plotholes. :0 Hopefully they'll poofy as time goes on. Remember this is a BIG story. Hahaha. SO YOU'RE IN THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE.

But anyways, new chapter. I'll aim for a new chapter every week for a while. I figure I'll get through in like...2 years if I keep with that pace lol :3 But hey, if you wanna keep with during that time, go for it! \m/

It's getting harder to edit this, just because Eru's tongue is vicious. :B BUT HERE IT IS.

Chapter 5: Makeshift Madness

“So.”

“So?”

“You’re like, one of those really shy and quiet kids, I take it,” Eru offered with a vague wave of her hand. At once Crystal twiddled with a strand of her hair. “I haven’t heard a peep from you at all since we left Twilitsong and took the hillside.”

The route up to Beghta’s largest lake was a steep one. Hardy woods and evergreen lined the beaten path. The woods were full of activity and bird songs. Geodude, Mareep and Treecko scattered about, wary of the human visitors and their need to survive. Only a few Pokemon looked on curiously to the duo from a safe distance. Crystal, true to Eru’s note, had kept her mouth shut out of anxiety.

“Really not a lot to say,” she offered meekly.

“Uh huh. Well, talk to me a little more. What did you learn while you were trapped in your crazy house? Pokemon-battling wise, of course.”

The younger was forced to think hard at that, and returned to her silence. What have I learned about Pokemon? “Uh…not a whole lot, I guess. Haha. Uh, I think I remember being taught there’s over two-hundred Pokemon out there. Some Pokemon evolve when they’ve battled enough while others have odd means of evolution, such as the Eevee family. Uh…Pokemon can have up to eight moves to remember, but four of those moves aren’t typically used in battle. There’s like…twelve different elemental types of Pokemon? I think that’s just about all I know.”

“…wow.” The elder trainer was obviously stunned into silence for what ever reason. She concentrated upon the road for a moment, a look of sheer perplexity on her face. After a pause, she slowly shook her head. “By the legendaries…we have some work to do, kid. I’m surprised you knew at all about support moves.”

Once again Crystal fell into uneasy silence. Her mind drifted back to just a year ago. Her mother, adamant about her last child becoming a trainer, forbade her from watching any Pokemon matches and limited her time outside on the outskirts of town. She stowed away all Pokemon battle magazines accumulating dust in the house. She even went as far as to home school her without mentioning anything remotely close to Pokemon during her studies. Her aim was to have her daughter, if she ever did manage to leave the house, to fail miserably and to turn tail home quickly. In a way, Team Missile was making her do that. She was going to have to return to Dawndew again, and only with a Pokemon Eru lent her.

“I guess I have to start somewhere…so, let’s see. Believe it or not, there are over four-hundred different types of Pokemon out there.”

“F-four hundred?!”

“Uh huh. I’ve done research on it. Closer to five-hundred different Pokemon, I think. Then there’s seventeen different elemental types of Pokemon. Fire, water, grass, bug, ground, flying, normal, dark, ghost, poison, ice, steel, fighting, psychic, dragon, rock, and electric. Each type has its weaknesses and their strengths, making them like an extreme game of ro-sham-bo. It’s as simple as applying common sense to some. For fighting, for example, it’s mind over muscle. So, psychic types do better against them. Also, fighting types have to be rooted to the ground at all times, otherwise their balance is compromised and their power goes down for their attacks. For that reason flying types do better against them. You follow?”

“Ah, I guess so.”

“Now, they have strengths too,” the teen continued. “Normal types, for example, are contrasting in the sense that they’re thin and without muscle, making them an easy target. Dark types use a lot of trickery to get their ways, so they like avoiding dead-on confrontation. They’re weak to fighting types in that sense. And rocks, steel and ice are easy for fighting types to break with their bare hands.

“It takes a while to remember the really weird type advantages and disadvantages, so don’t feel bad if you can’t remember them all for a while. Trust me, though, I’m going to pound them down into your head. This is Pokemon one-oh-one here. Without this, you’re going to fail. Type weaknesses and strengths are key to winning any battle.”

Eru’s words ended as the grove of trees did. Bright blue sky greeted their eyes once more as the slope leveled out. Splashing could be heard from not too far away. “Aahhh…we’re here,” the onyx-haired trainer announced. The gifted girl fought with a pant to get over the top of the hill to gaze down towards the body of water.

A massive crater formed the land and held the lake in place. Starly and Staravia swerved about in a flock overhead before landing together on one of the few patches of grass around the area. From a distance the splashing of fish Pokemon could be seen. A few amphibious creatures rested comfortably on the muddy shoreline. The lake itself stretched on farther than the eye could see. It glistened in the sunlight playfully. Waves gently chopped against the shore like a calm beach near the ocean. No other humans were in sight. The scenery was breathtaking.

“So! What do you want me to catch you, kid?”

“Uh…I dunno. What do you think would be good again?” Crystal sheepishly replied. She had no idea what half the Pokemon lounging about were.

“Well, given how the first gym leader likes grass types, we really should get a flying type, but I’m guessing that’s out of the question.” The younger gave a visible twitch at that. Her heart sunk into her stomach at the thought of her missing bird friend. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. A fire type would be nice, but they’re really hard to come by over here. Some dragons learn fire type moves, but they’re so wily and really hard to train and control. Ice or poison types do well here too, but ice types won’t do well in such warm conditions and poison types not only stink, but there are none around here. So that pretty much crosses out everything on that list. We may have to get a fish starter, unfortunately…”

“Why unfortunately?”

“Because grass grows off of water. It’s one of water’s few weaknesses. Well, that and electricity. But besides that, it’s a fairly useful kind of Pokemon. So maybe we’ll fish for a Horsea. Come on, let’s get to it!”

Within seconds Eru leapt forward and down into the crater. Her feet slid on the tiny pebbles eroded from the rainfall and lake water. With great balance she continued to slide down with occasional hops to keep her momentum. She was down at the bottom in no time, landing like a cat on both her feet. She gazed up and waved her hand.

“Heeeeey, what are you still doing up there? Come on! Slide down!”

“Are you insane?!” Crystal called back, crouching down over the side nervously. Her foot slid and she fiercely clutched the soil trying to stop herself.

“We all are a little insane! You should show that side of you! Wimp!”

“I’m not breaking my neck!” the younger whimpered. Her hands were already getting scraped as she tried to shimmy down. And then her footing was compromised. “Eep!” She felt rock after rock dig into her grasp, but she couldn’t stop herself. The hillside was too steep. At last her foot caught itself on a larger stone. The angle of her ankle made her wince as she lifted one hand. It was covered in dirt, pebbles and some blood. Uneasily the girl glanced down, panting heavily. She had slid to the halfway point.

“Are you gonna take forever and a day or can we catch some Pokemon already?” Eru cat-called.

“I’m coming…” she weakly offered. Soon the trek down began again, more cautiously this time. After a solid three minutes she was on solid ground. Sweating and without breath, she plopped down in exhaustion. Her hands stung. She felt the shadow of her mentor over her. She glanced up. Eru held her hands on her hip impatiently.

“Are you quite done?”

“Do you have a first-aid kit?” The young Hikara held out her hands for the elder to see. She briefly glanced over them.

“Ehhh, they’re shallow. You’ll live,” she coolly responded, before walking to the water side.

“Wait, what? But I should treat this! What if it gets infected?”

“We’ll chop it off,” Eru slyly joked as she pulled off her massive bag.

“That’s not funny, Eru!”

“I thought it was. Hrm…”

Groaning a little and picking out small rocks that stuck to her hand, Crystal slowly made her way over. The teen was fiddling away with a pole and fishing line. “Do you at least have a tissue?”

“Got an issue? No? Then no tissue.”

“Why?”

“Because when you’re travelling, every single supply counts,” the mentor grunted. “If we waste the bandages on this one little scrape and other little scrapes before we get to another town or city, then what? What would happen if you got a serious wound? We wouldn’t have anything, and you’d be screwed outta luck. Tough it out. You’re too weak as it is. You cry and cry about everything. You need to learn to stop that if you’re going to be a trainer.”

The blonde was stunned into a brief moment of quiescence by Eru’s harsh words again. They sunk deep into her mind. The words themselves made her want to cry. I mean, she has a point and all, but…does she have to be so mean? She knows what I just went through, and yet she’s acting this way…

“Hey. Whenever you’re done absorbing that plate of ownage I just dished out, come over here and watch so you can learn how to do this for later.” Crystal’s attention shot back to the lakeside as she glanced over. Her new mentor had assembled a new-looking fishing pole and was busy baiting it. Soon a piece of stale bread rested on the hook. “You cast out like this…” Her finger rested on the line right above the reel. She flipped a switch on the reel, pulled back carefully to some predetermined angle, and swung it forward. The line, bait, and sinker lure shot out into the open blue, plopping down about twenty feet into the lake. She nudged the switch back with a click, and began slowly reeling the extra line in. “Gotta make them think it’s moving…oh! Got one!”

The bobber danced wildly as Eru pointed the fishing pole down towards the wriggling and reeled in at a consistent rate. The fish fought to get off the line wildly, but she kept firm. Finally she pulled the rod up and to the right, starting to reel faster. “Heh, heh, feels like a big one! I’d stand back! It could be a Gyarados!”

Alarmed by the very name, the blonde heeded her words well and retreated. How can she be so calm and so happy when she’s going to go up against a Gyarados?! All the same, the mighty splashing was drawing nearer. Nervously she twiddled her hair and bit on her lip, wincing in anticipation. Then, the teen jerked her pole back completely, sending the creature airborne! Water droplets scattered everywhere, obstructing the view of the fish for a millisecond.

The water fell. A pathetic-looking Magikarp flopped about on the line weakly, begging to be released back into his colony.

Crystal quivered on the edge of hysteria, instead of fright. Eru’s expression was priceless. She dumbly gawked at the little fish.

“A big one…?” the younger couldn’t help but snicker.

“Aw, shut the heck up!” she swore violently as she unhooked the carp and chucked him harshly back into the water in anger. “I don’t see you doing anything to help! I’d shut it if I were you!”

At that, the gifted girl calmed herself down. Eru’s eyes appeared as they always did, but she could feel the rage radiating off of her. Now the elder was back at it, quickly shoving another piece of bread onto the hook. She cast out once again with an exasperated sigh. The younger of the two meandered over, gazing to the water curiously.

“…what do you think saved me from the lake?” Crystal attempted at friendly conversation in an attempt to cool Eru off.

“…I dunno, honestly. You said it came from the bottom of the lake and swept you up, right?”

“Uh-huh…”

“Do you remember what it felt like?”

“Kind of…smooth. Longish. I think.” The elder hesitated at that, glancing over. A certain look of surprise was held in her eye. “…what?”

“That sounds like a-”

“Agh, Eru! You have something!” The teen snapped her head back over quickly to watch the bobber plummet. She began reeling it in again, but she frowned. “Bah, I think I lost it…I don’t feel any tension…”

“But the bobber’s still not surfacing…”

“Damn fish ate that too?” she muttered as she continued bringing the line in. There was rippling from a little before the line. “Wait, what the…”

“Is there something following the line?”

“What kind of Pokemon would want to follow a fishing line? It must be a trainer’s Pokemon…” Eru’s face turned serious as she continued to reel it in. Finally the bobber floated once more. With a small splash a Pokemon exited the water and comfortably took to the mud of land. “The heck?!”

“What? What is it?!” Crystal furiously whispered.

The creature was a long blue and white serpentine. It tilted its head back and forth curiously between the two humans with large violet eyes. A black spot shone brilliantly on its forehead.

“It’s a Dratini! Those things are super-rare. They’re shy around humans, too!”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Yes, I’m freakin' sure! I caught one in the Dragon’s Den in Johto, so I know how hard it is to find, let alone catch these things!” Eru hissed.

Still far away, the Dratini watched them curiously, as though it didn’t know any better. Then, it suddenly vanished from sight.

“Wha…?! Where’d it go?!”

“Did it just use…?!” the elder’s eyes widened. The Dratini faded back into life in front of Crystal. It took particular interest in the blonde human. “Crystal, back off.”

“It looks playful, though.”

“I don’t care. I’m catching this Dratini for myself.” Her hand quickly moved to her belt, withdrawing the most aged Pokeball.

“Why? I thought you already had one?”

“This one, although I don’t know how, knows Extremespeed.”

“Extremespeed?”

“It’s a move that’s even faster than Quick Attack. Only a few Pokemon ever learn the move. It’s not normally found in the Dratini family line. Out of the way! Elda!”

The Pokeball flew out from her hand. Crystal was only left a mere two seconds to retreat before lightning sparks hit the area she was just standing in. More electricity danced off the formed creature. Yellow fur stood up from its body like spines of a porcupine, supercharged by the electricity jumping off it. Dark eyes narrowed dangerously as it took in the sight of the Dratini. The serpent turned suddenly shy, edging away.

“Elda, Thunderbolt. Don’t knock it out,” Eru simply commanded. Immediately Elda responded with a yip. The air dangerously became supercharged with negative energy. Unnerved by the sudden climate change, the dragon backed off for a moment, before loosing powerful waves of electricity itself. The waves, warping the very air around them, hit the Jolteon head on. The movement simply seemed to bug the electric Pokemon.

“What just happened?” Crystal wondered aloud.

“The Dratini used Thunderwave. For something that fast, that would have been an advantage to get away, but Elda is a Jolteon. She was gifted with Volt Absorb. She’s not affected by other lightning moves, Thunderwave included. …you really know nothing, don’t you?” the elder calmly finished. Massive energy made hairs stand up on the blonde’s arms. Within a bright flash, all the energy around Elda discharged and struck the Dratini. There was a brief cry of pain and a series of shivers from the creature, before it shook its head and appeared angered. “Hm…wonder what ‘level’ that thing is, to resist a Thunderbolt from Elda so easily…”

“Tch! Off my game! You got lucky!” the Jolteon sneered at her opponent. The Dratini, still shaking off the attack, said nothing in return.

As the mentor pulled her Pokegear off her jacket and began fiddling with it rapidly, the snake-like Pokemon jumped into action. It coiled wildly in circles. A wind whipped up, threatening to draw all into the circular air funnel. The Dratini abruptly slithered forward, aiming the funnel towards Elda. Despite her best efforts to cling to the ground, the electric type was lifted from her grounding point and pummeled by small bits of debris and stones. As she was held uselessly within the air, the dragon shot up, into the tornado, and powerfully brought its tail down on its opponent. The reaction sent the Jolteon spiraling down to the ground as the Twister attack ceased. Eru frowned as there was a blip from her Gear and the Eeveelution landed with a heavy thud.

“…‘level eleven’…and it’s inflicting this much damage?”

“What are you talking about? What’s a level?”

“A level is a guideline most trainers go by to explain how powerful a Pokemon is, or rather how much experience a Pokemon has battling and winning said battles.” As she spoke, Elda shook off the attack, groaning mildly as she returned to her feet. “When a Pokemon wins enough battles, it becomes stronger, or ‘levels up’. They leave an energy signal behind when they level up, so Pokegears and other tools can pick up on their estimated level. This Dratini’s fighting more like it’s around level twenty-something though…it must have practiced each of its moves strenuously on its own or run away from an opponent often to get this strong…”

“Okay, now I’m ticked,” Elda barked, suddenly spiking her fur dangerously. Dipping her front paws down and almost leaping into the air with her hind legs, she shot a wave of her needle-like fur and pierced the Dratini’s skin. The adversary faltered, stunned from the sudden attack. Another set of needles followed by two more released themselves from the Jolteon.

Still the serpent was far from succumbing to the lightning Pokemon. Eru allowed herself a small noise of displeasure as she quickly pulled an orb out of the satchel on her belt. With two clicks the red-and-white ball grew greatly in size, and effortlessly she chucked it out. As though practiced millions of times before, the ball flew perfectly to the Dratini. However, the snake-like Pokemon wasn’t going down that easily; with a flick of her tail the ball was sent flying back, landing right back in the elder’s hand.

“What?!” Eru hissed and cussed, shaking her hand wildly from the impact.

“Does that normally happen?” Crystal questioned, watching as the Dratini slithered over, Pounding Elda and then dashing off before a retaliation could be made.

“No. I’ve never heard of a Pokemon dodging a ball like that. No, that wasn’t even dodging, it… Ahhh…Elda, use Thunderbolt one more time!”

But Elda was done listening. Dark clouds suddenly moved in onto the playing field. The experienced trainer hollered at the disobedient Pokemon, whom refused to listen. The little serpent could sense the changing pressure in the air as well as the building attack. Hastily it attempted to retreat, but the Eeveelution was quicker.

Lightning shot out from Elda’s body to the heavens. Within a split second it came down and rained upon the poor dragon type. The roar of the thunder overtook the airwaves, the ground trembled something fierce and light blinded all sight of everything. It took every inch of sheer willpower Crystal had to remain on her feet as she was forced back a few feet from the attack. The power of the Thunder strike was terrifying. In her mind, the young girl decided that befriending Eru was probably the safest way of doing things after all.

Senses were left numb as the attack ended. Everything was in a fog as the scene revealed itself. Near silence encompassed the lake area. Only the sound of the ever-present waves vaguely clicked in the new trainer’s mind. The dust cloud fell and revealed the carnage.

Arks of electricity still left over by the strike sizzled off the Dratini’s body. It whimpered gently, twitching and wincing its eyes shut. The little water left on its body had acted as a conductor for the strike, leaving it efficiently paralyzed. The Jolteon yipped, proud of her achievement, but Eru didn’t look too pleased.

“Darn, knocked it out…hope it still works!” the onyx-haired femme hissed, chucking the orb once again. This time the attempt to get the creature in the ball was a success; with a red light the Dratini disappeared within the capsule. “Good…now stay in there…” Crystal watched with interest as the ball wiggled much like the Pokemon within it had a few moments ago. The button shone red as the Pokemon struggled. “Can’t believe that thing has such willpower…stay in there…” the elder continued to grunt beneath her breath. Back and forth the Pokeball wreathed, seemingly endlessly. Even Crystal stopped breathing in anticipation now.

Click. The ball went still after the light died from the button. “About time,” Eru victoriously announced, striding up to the ball. She hesitated for a moment as a small light shone over the surface. “Huh?!” Soon the light ended, but the ball had turned quite dark. Only a pair of white wings on the side of the ball and a dot on the crown of the capsule were brought to light as a midnight color washed over the device. “The hell…?”

“What? What is it?”

“I’ve never seen a Pokeball do that before…by the legendaries, this day just gets weirder and weirder.” She picked up the Pokeball carefully, examining it. The blonde, too, looked over the orb in curiosity.

Suddenly it shook, and the creature released itself upon being held out. Both trainers jumped as the Dratini found its way into Crystal’s arms. She stumbled back, taken by surprise due to the long yet light form of the creature. It still hung limply, whimpering gently.

“Little rascal…might as well heal it up while we have the chance. That was a strong Thunder attack it had to deal with…” Within seconds a can of lemonade and a hermit cookie had been withdrawn from the contents of the bag. She opened up the can and attempted to have the Dratini drink it, but it weakly turned its head away. Again, the onyx-haired trainer tried to give the Pokemon the cookie, but that too was denied as the serpent buried its head deep into Crystal’s arms, as though afraid. “Bah, what’s wrong with this thing? I’ve never seen a Pokemon refuse food like this before…”

“Maybe I should try?”

“Doubt it’ll make a difference,” the experienced trainer heaved a sigh, reluctantly handing the supplies over to her one open arm. “Don’t go too crazy now. Pokemon are normally pretty shy right when you catch them.”

“Okay…” Crystal muttered, taking the lemonade and cookie. At first she nudged the cookie towards the creature. The dragon sniffed it weakly, and still turned its head away. She sighed, handing it back over to Eru. As soon as her hand with the lemonade neared the Dratini in the slightest, though, it immediately took to drinking it. It chugged it so fast it took Crystal by surprise as she allowed a little yelp. Even the elder trainer seemed shocked. At one point, the serpentine even used her tail to hold onto the drink and get the last few drops before letting loose a pleased sigh.

“Crystal, give the Dratini back to me,” Eru impatiently ordered, gazing at the spectacle with some unknown emotion. It wasn’t a pleasant one.

“Huh? Okay? Why?”

“Just do it.”

Upon her order, Crystal attempted to unwrap herself from the Dratini’s strong grasp. As soon as the Pokemon saw that she was to be put into Eru’s arms, though, she strongly resisted, coiling and hiding around the younger with a weak shudder.

“Ah, Eru! It’s…I can’t…”

“…what the heck is going on with this thing?” the elder dumbly questioned, peering at the creature. It ducked whenever she neared it. “Dratini are shy, I know, but I’ve never seen one that takes to a human quickly. Ask it what’s wrong.”

“Uh…” Crystal attempted to get the Dratini’s attention, but it continued shaking. “Hey, little Dratini?” she queried gently. The Pokemon glanced up, eyes shining in wonder and curiosity. It made a little noise. “Uh, are you okay? What’s wrong?”

“…I just got a lot of ouchies from that meany over there,” the serpent, apparently female, replied. “She’s really scary. She’s like all the others…”

“All the others?”

“All the others Mommy told me to worry about. But you’re not like them. I can sense that. I can sense you’re a nicey. You don’t wanna hurt me.” Expectantly, Eru folded her arms. Elda walked over, spotting her trainer’s temper growing, and quickly disappeared into her spherical home. She was smart to know to avoid the oncoming heat.

“Well?”

“She’s calling you a meany and me a nicey?”

“Uh huh.”

“She says that her mother told her to worry about those that want to hurt her? Something like that?” Something clicked within her mind. “…wait, I think that gym leader said something about his Dragonite’s child at the lake being elusive? Could he be talking about this one?”

“Maybe. I wouldn’t know. All I know is that this child has gotten attached to you and that’s somewhat annoying.”

“Well, uh…could I maybe…”

“No,” Eru flatly said, as though reading Crystal’s mind. “You can not use it as your starter. That Dratini will not listen to a single word you say, and since I caught it…”

“No, no! Don’t let me be with the meany, miss! You owe me one, too! I did something nice for you, so please do something nice, be a nicey and don’t have me go back to her!” the Dratini whimpered as the elder attempted to pull her off Crystal.

“Wait, what do you mean?”

“You were the girl in the water, weren’t you? That was you, right miss? You look a lot like that girl.”

“Wait, you saved me back then? That was you?” Expectantly she looked to the impatient trainer. “Eru, I think she’s the Pokemon that saved me back at the lake!”

“That’d explain why it took to you. Pokemon are empathetic and all, but still…for your sake, and for mine, hand it over.” She held out her right hand to the Dratini and held the oddly colored Pokeball with her other.

“No!” the Dratini cried wildly, hiding and whimpering. “Not going with the meany! Miss, make her go away!”

“…but, Dratini…er, do you have a name…?” Crystal began. The creature rose her head, eyes sparkling.

“Dragola, miss! That’s what my Mom called me.”

“Then you can call me Crystal instead of miss, okay?” Sky blue eyes darted over to the annoyed trainer, before locking eyes with Dragola again. “Listen, Dragola…she’s your trainer now. You have to listen to her.”

“No I don’t. I won’t be a good little Pokemon to her. I promised Mom that I wouldn’t,” she pouted.

“Okay, that’s it. I don’t care if you two are chatting it up. Return, Dratini.”

The command on the orb missed as a sudden Extremespeed caused Dragola to disappear from Crystal’s arms and land at the water’s edge. Firmly she shook her head.

“Dra! Tini dra!” the stubborn creature motioned to Crystal, then motioned to her trainer and made an x with her body. Eru stood there, stupefied, before she dug into her bag.

“Okay, this is weird. Really freakin’ weird. I have my badges. They’re all here. So, why won’t it obey? This is extremely upsetting. Ugh…Crystal! Tell it I’m not going to hurt it any more,” she gritted her teeth.

“Nope, not going back!”

“Hey, Dragola, come on! Eru’s not going to hurt you any more…she’s a really nice trainer, trust me! She saved me from a bunch of bad people…worse than some you’ve probably met,” Crystal weakly attempted. Still the dragon type wasn’t listening. “Please? For my sake, go with her?”

“No way.”

“Ugh, it’s useless…” Crystal now shook her head. “She’s refusing completely, no matter what I say.”

The elder grunted. Her temper would have been lost long ago, it seemed, but still she clung to rationalism for the sake of there was nothing logically to be done. She seemed to lock her eyes on a distant cloud formation as she tapped her foot gently, until she gave a long exasperated remark.

“Argh. Fine. Fine! Okay, I see how it is. If the Dratini thinks she’ll be in good hands with you, then fine. If you want to try and control a dragon type at your age and experience, fine. It’ll be good experience for both of you naïve kiddies. I’m not gonna fight it. You can borrow the Dratini until you get more Pokemon in your team. Only until then, got it?!” Angrily she shoved the orb into Crystal’s hands before storming towards the hillside.

“Eru?!”

“I need to cool my head off a bit, so just shut it.”

“Thank you!” Crystal beamed. “Dragola thanks you too!”

Eru stopped in her tracks.

“…Dragola… …just because you’re borrowing her doesn’t mean you can nickname her. Don’t get too attached, for your sake,” she near threatened in a whisper.

“But it is actually her name…”

“I don’t care. Shut it, and let’s head back to town. Come on.”

Silently, the Dratini with the genetic oddity slithered over, gawking at the orb in Crystal’s hand, at Crystal, then at Eru. “What happened?”

“Uh…well, I hope you wouldn’t mind us being kinda sorta partners for a little bit?”

“Nope! You’re a nicey! And I can talk to you. I think Mom would be more than fine with you! She letting us be together as a team? Are you strong? You gonna help me be a strong Dratini or maybe even Dragonair or Dragonite?”

“Haha, I guess we’ll see, Dragola…” Crystal laughed gently, but spotting the grumpy tomboy in front of her, she quickly ushered for her to push forth. “But for now, let’s not give her a reason to separate us.”

“Okay, mis-er, Crystal!” Dragola squealed, leaping into her arms again. The blonde couldn’t help a giggle.

“Ha, ha ha. Laugh while you can, you little innocent child. You don’t know squat of what you’re up against in life,” Eru bitterly commented to herself as she began to climb out of the crater. “You have no idea…”

* * *

“Just where have you been, young girl?!”

Crystal winced as she held her mentor’s Pokegear away from her ear. The elder trainer herself was snickering gently as she listened in on the conversation.

“Well, I was-”

“Do you have ANY idea how worried about you I was when you didn’t call for several days in a row?!” the woman on the other end of the phone raved. “I even sent Wizar over to Sunrise with Sheila and he said that you weren’t anywhere in the city! It’s a one-day trip to get there, and I know that you couldn’t have possibly have gotten your badge that quick! Where are you now? Where are you calling from? The number’s anonymous!”

“Mom, if you’ll just give me a moment to explain!” the blonde whimpered out.

“I don’t want a moment to explain. I want to hear the entire story, right here, right now, or I want you to come home.”

“Well, uh…see, I’ll be coming home tomorrow anyways, because…”

“Oh, what’s that tone in your voice?” the mother cut her off, turning from rage to concern on the drop of the hat. “What happened? What’s wrong? Where are you?”

“…Twilitsong?” she offered, holding the phone further away as she expected the explosion.

“TWILITSONG?! How did you get there?!” Eru smirked in satisfaction that ‘karma’ had caught up with Crystal. She was clearly enjoying the madness. “I demand you get home right this instant! I’ll have Wizar contact Kira right away, she’ll come and get you tomorrow-”

“No, Mom, that’s not necessary! I have everything planned out.”

“No you don’t!”

“Yes I do! Eru’s taking me home-” And Crystal bit her lip. Yes, definitely the wrong thing to say.

“Who’s Eru? You don’t even know this person! You can’t trust them!”

“I’m borrowing her Pokegear right now, Mom! It’s a long story, but trust me, she’s a good person!”

“Crystal, you’re way too naïve for your own good!” her mother shrieked.

“Mom, please, everyone in the Center can hear you!” Crystal was an awful shade of red. Even Eru seemed to be backing off at this point with her victorious smile.

“Fine, just…get home tomorrow. If not, I’ll send this number to the police and see to it that Kira does find you.”

“Alright, Mom. We’ll be home tomorrow around noon.”

“You come as soon as the sun’s up!

“I will, Mom…”

“Don’t you dare do something like this again!”

“I know, Mom. Can I go to bed, now? Today’s kinda been a crazy day.”

“Yeah, alright. First thing tomorrow, you leave.”

“I will.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too, Mom…”

“Call me if anything happens immediately, alright?”

“I will!” Crystal’s patience was running short.

“Don’t raise your voice with me, young lady.”

“I’m sorry…can I just…go now?”

“Yeah, yeah…good night. Sleep well. I love you.”

“Love you too, bye,” the young girl winced and clicked the disconnect button as soon as she heard ‘bye’.

Crystal dully handed the phone back over. Eru had her face deeply buried in her hand as she trembled. “Go ahead and laugh all you want.”

“Hahaha, holy toledo. Man, and I thought I’ve heard of some crazies out there. Wow. I actually feel bad for you. Now I know why you know so little about Pokemon, with a mother like that.”

“Well, I bet your mom worries a lot about you, too!” Crystal huffed, and the elder calmed down.

“Yeah, probably. Anyways, I take that call as I’m gonna meet the parents, huh?”

“Well, just my mom. My father’s still away on an excavation in Sinnoh, last I checked. Oh, but Wizar, Sheila and Worki will be there!”

“And you fail to get the parent reference. …but Wizar, Worki…? They Pokemon?”

“Worki is. He’s my mother’s Wartortle. Wizar’s my youngest brother, even though he’s older than me. Does that make sense?”

“Nope, none at all.”

“Eru!”

“Come on, nap time for you. I’ll catch up with you as soon as I switch out Elda for Val.”

“Val?”

“My Fearow. He was my bird Pokemon of choice until Skai came along and threatened to not eat at all if I didn’t keep him in my party twenty-four-seven.”

“What’s a…Fearow?” the newbie gulped. “It’s…nothing really bad to fear, right?”

“I guess you’ll see tomorrow, won’t you?” Eru stuck out her tongue, bustling off. A shudder ran down Crystal’s spine as she glanced to the Onyx Ball holding Dragola. Tightly she grabbed and gripped the ball, praying that the teenager was just playing with her as further payback for the events at the lake.

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

Pokemon get !!

It's cool to re-read the story again and meet everyone all over again :>

AGAIN SORRY FOR NOT GETTING BACK TO YOU LAST TIME.

Also sorry I'm not that pro a writer and can't tell you much about like, deep stuff that isn't called grammar nazi-ing. It's still like, all early in the story and stuff, so there ain't a whole lot going on... LOVE THIS FIC DO MORE \o/

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

=) I really liked the chapter, I hope you update soon. (For some reason I am getting a little soft spot for Eru. I am so weird.)

~NZ

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

I SUPPOSE I HAD BETTER POST IN HERE HUH?

Eru is a lot more... what's the word... sinister than I recall? I mean I remember her being a bit moody about the Dragola think, but she definitely didn't go THAT far. Speaking of which, last time saw her lend Crystal the Jolteon to catch the little Dratini, but this time she was all "no, it's mine, f off." So much nastier lol.

Good to see the little girl's attitude hasn't changed though - Dragola is so awesome ^_^

However you overused the word serpentine IMO. I dunno what you would've replaced it with, but it just seemed uncharacteristic of you to overdo a description like that.

That aside, I didn't have the time/energy to comment on the previous chapters (those exams put almost everything on hold) but having now caught up I can safely say I will be sticking with this for the long haul. This fic has always been something a little special compared to most stuff I have read (even outdoing some published works...), and I really can't wait to read more.

It's great, cause I usually don't have time/money (no I'm not getting them out of a library, I'd forget to give them back -_-) to go actually read books as much anymore, so to do something like this is a big refreshing thing for me. Especially cause, you know, it's on pokémon too ^_^.

I've ran out of awesome things to say for now, so I'll stop there. Keep it going! :D

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

Great chapter as always! This got my attention just enough to spend time away from mah Halo Reach Beta. And I agree completely with PMJ! It's awesome re-reading this.

Anyways, enough chit-chat, Spartan teams falling back, we got Elites all over us!

....Dang, that didn't sound as bad in my head... I'm such a Halo freak....

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

PMJ: Yesh get get :D And it's okay; so long as you like change what you say for the most part and are obviously reading I'm coo'.

gamercal: YES YOU SHOULD DOOD

Also, what the splinky are you talking about? Eru's a completely new character. She's not more sinister before because she's not the same person. :B She is edgy but she has her reasons. Also I would cry if I changed Dragola at all she's too perfect.

Really? I'll go take a quick skim. As said there are only so many words to describe a Dratini with...Hmmhmmmhmm.

Also this is the point where I scoff at your compliment. True, could possibly be written better than some garbage (*coughcoughTwilightanyone?coughcough*) but for the most part I'm still a rookie. So IDK entirely about that. Besides you WILL hate me for certain points and certain plottwists. Really, you will. But I do promise RQO will remain free to the public no matter how much I hate on my writing and noobish mistakes later. \m/ Thanks for commenting as always~

CA: Yay it should be awesome re-reading this. It's super-duper improvements over the old one. Srs. Hahaha. And yeah Halo what. NOT IN MY THREAD >0000

So yeah! Now we get to some pretty cool parts of the story: the first being the restart of the adventure (ABOUT TIME GEEZ CRYSTAL WAY TO FAIL AS A TRAINER!) and the revealing of our second protagonist's name! \m/ Oh yeah and some little things in between.

I found this quote particularly amusing BTW. I wish more of you would make RQO jokes, it makes me happy. :<

[23:59] <PMJ|27772> team missile are the kind of people who would throw a box of hungry kittens into a roaring fire

With that said, nnnnnnnnnnext chapter is GO! I have to write more because I only have 7 left. I gotta finish at least 9 before I post more, sorry. ><

Chapter 6: A Short Rest

“I’m…not so sure this is such a good idea any more,” Crystal gulped. The bright morning light poured down on the slowly awakening city. Before her stood a massive bird that was hollering about the light and how it hurt his eyes so early in the day. He would occasionally glare over at the small girl, squawk about how lame it was to transport her instead of his mistress, and then go back to appearing menacing.

“Aw, don’t mind Val. He’s a big pussycat. He hasn’t pecked your brains out yet, has he?”

“Yet,” the blonde nervously twiddled with her hair as he glared her way again, clicking his long beak. “…I see why they call the species a ‘Fearow’.”

“Well, if you don’t wanna admit to a fear of heights or anything, or if you’re too chicken to get on his back, you can always walk. Yeah, have fun with that,” Eru pet Val kindly on the beak as she finished setting up the safety harness.

“No thank you, and I’m not afraid! He just…keeps talking about being the most a Fearow can be and he does not want to transport me.”

“Well, you can’t take Skai. Skai’s still, you know, mildly scarred for life after you talked to him. That, and he’s harder to ride.” Thumbing behind her, the young girl could see the normally overly-affectionate Skarmory was as far away as he could possibly be from both trainer and Crystal. When he caught sight of her looking his way, he fluffed up his wings, whimpered, and stuck his head in his mess of feathers.

“Tch! What’s new, you thistlebreath!” Val howled over. “Pathetic excuse for an armored bird, I’ll say.” The metal bird gave no response to the catcall.

The experienced trainer glanced at her two Pokemon, then at her student. “I prove my point. Now, let’s be off, shall-”

“YOU!”

Immediately Crystal turned her head, but it wasn’t her that someone was after. Michael was stomping over with fire in his eyes, directing hell down on Eru. She snapped her head to the side, paled only a shade, before regaining her cool.

“Oh, you. I forgot to apolo-”

“How DARE you disgrace the seventh- and currently strongest!- gym leader of the Beghta Pokemon League?!” he spat, zooming up to her face. Eru didn’t move as he nearly jabbed her several times as he flailed his pointed finger around at her. “What a cowardly move, to come from the side when I was caring about a poor and wounded citizen like any good Gym Leader should do! You villain! You utter coward! I demand that you turn yourself in! And, if you don’t, as I suspect you shan’t, I demand you protect yourself in futility while my Pokemon pound you down!”

The elder stood there, still cool in expression. “…Are you quite done with your flourish of pretty words? Can I say that I apologize for hitting-”

“You, boy, are in no position to dare insult the great ‘Extremespeed’! Come, heathen! Prepare yourself!” With great speed he withdrew an aging Pokeball.

“Uh, I’d rather not humiliate the ‘great Extremespeed’ out in public. I have a meeting to attend to,” the tomboy shook her head, and walked over to Skai. He tilted his head in curiosity.

“You’re going against the trainer’s code?! Denying a battle- when I have issued it- and so cockily?! I can blacklist you from every place under this sun for eternity with my connections! You will not battle a single gym leader further until you have battled me!”

“…too bad you’ll never find me again and you have no idea what my ID is. Come on, Skai, Val…” Eru shook her head.

“I can find out! I have connections!”

“So you say, drama queen.”

Crystal was gently sweating as she watched the chaos and drama unfold. However, at his trainer’s call, Val glanced over to her. “…you getting on while I feel nice enough to allow it or not?” he hissed, baring his back to her. With a moment’s hesitance, she finally mounted him. Grumbling about how he was getting too soft, he suddenly took to the sky.

“I will find you, boy!”

“Uh, I’m a female, you complete idiot, and I have no intents of doing any battling in Beghta, anyways. Good luck trying to get things to stick,” the teenager jeered, leaping onto Skai’s back. She quickly whipped out a bizarre ‘harness’ made out of three magnets and leather bindings, and with a small yank she and her Pokemon took to the sky before the gym leader could say anything further.

The morning clouds disappeared as the two birds climbed ever higher into the atmosphere. Nervously, the blonde clutched tightly onto the reigns for dear life and did the same with the bird saddle. Val glanced back, giving a rude squawk. Soon Skai soared up beside her. The elder had been standing on his back, but she kneeled down and took a seat on the metal bird.

“Hey, relax a little. You aren’t gonna fall or anything anytime soon,” she called over the howl of the wind.

“E-easy for you to say! I’ve…I’ve never been this high up before.”

“Well, this way we can catch the winds a lot better and get to Dawndew faster. Following the jetstream, you know. A lot of trainers don’t Fly this high. Nor do I think they can, but regardless of that fact…” she tugged the windbreaker tighter around her as she pet the neck of her steed.

“You’re sure it’s safe…?”

“You’re choking me,” Val coughed, and Crystal let the reigns have some slack. He quickly breathed in with wide wings.

“Yeah, so long as you don’t kill my Fearow.” Mud-brown eyes quizzically noted the situation. “…anyways, we’ll be there within an hour or two.”

“Great,” Crystal gritted her teeth.

“Haha, what?”

“Mom…” she groaned. “She doesn’t like Pokemon, either…she was quite bent on making sure I didn’t become a trainer in the first place. It’s not gonna be fun, for either one of us.”

“They say it never is. I’m prepared for the interrogation and convincing speech,” Eru hummed playfully.

“Interrogation? Convincing? Of what?”

“Never mind…”

* * *

Clutched tightly in over protective arms, Crystal could barely make out her mother’s blathering. “Oh, thank the heavens you’re alright! I thought that I’d never hear from you again! By the legendaries, what were you doing out at Twilitsong?! That's on the other side of the region! Wait, where did these burn marks come from? You have some explaining to do!”

“Mom-” Crystal gasped, attempting to interject.

“And who is he?! I thought you said some girl saved you! What are you doing hanging around a boy?!”

“Mooom,” she tried again, wriggling to escape her maternal grasp.

“I knew that this was a bad idea. I cannot BELIEVE that I let Kira and Ryouo sweet-talk their way into doing this!” the mother continued to babble. “Boys, burns, Twilitsong…!”

“MOM!” the young girl roared out finally, snaking her way out of the hug. She stumbled back, nearly losing her balance entirely. “Will you just listen to me for one minute?!”

“I have no reason to! Come on now, we’re going inside. You’re not going to do this journeying thing any longer, especially not with a boy-”

“This is Eru! She’s a girl!” Crystal evaded her parent’s grasp, only to attempt to introduce her new friend. “She’s the one that saved me from-”

It was a second too soon before she noticed her poor choice of words. Crystal’s mother hesitated only for a moment, before a look of sheer concern climbed over her face. The burn marks and ‘saved’ seemed to fall into place.

“What do you mean, saved…?”

“Well, ah, you see,” the newbie trainer hastily began, but not before Eru strode up towards the older lady. Although Mrs. Hikara was a petite woman, the fury blazing in her sapphire-colored eyes was definitely intimidating. Calmly, the teenager offered out her hand.

“Mrs. Hikara? It’s really a pleasure to meet you.”

Stunned for a moment from her tirade, she reluctantly shook her hand, though only after glancing over Eru, particularly in her chest region. “Ah, yes. Call me Cyranea, please,” she offered somewhat dumbly. “Pleasure to meet you, Ms. …Eru?”

“Aeron. Aeron Gunnar,” she nodded, releasing her grip. Crystal gave a small glance over. Aaron Gunnar, huh…? Isn’t Aaron a boy’s name, though…? However, Cyranea seemed pleased with the name.

“Pleasure to meet you then, Erin. My, it is somewhat chilly today. Why don’t you come join us for breakfast? I’m sure that we can have a better conversation about…this entire thing…” she nearly glared at her child, before continuing, “…on a full stomach.”

“Oh, that would be most wonderful,” Aeron beamed, quickly adding, “Well, so long as I’m not intruding?”

“Hardly!” Cyranea swatted her hand anxiously, before combing her fingers through her graying black hair. Just from the looks of it, Crystal decided that her mother really was worried about her; what was normally fussed into a tight bun was allowed to fall forward messily. “Come in, come in. It’s been a long time since we’ve had company!”

At once she bustled off, leaving the pair staring at the open door to the house. Crystal showed great hesitation, burying her head into her hand.

“Smooth,” Eru offered bluntly.

“So, your name is Aaron? I typically thought that was a boy’s name?”

“It’s actually a unisex name, spelt with an ‘E’ instead of another ‘A’. Only a slight pronunciation difference. I’m not surprised that your mom also got it wrong.”

“What was so hard about telling me your name again?”

“I’m just generally uncomfortable about giving it out.” She glanced away. “Like I said, people want my head. But it’s rude to linger in people’s doorways…even if it’s yours. You coming?” Hastily Aeron let herself in, leaving Crystal behind only for a moment. After shaking her head and psyching herself up for the worst, she followed suit.

The wonderful smell of home-cooked pancakes and other delicious breakfast foods lured Crystal in quicker as she entered the dining hall of the house. Eru preoccupied herself by gazing at the many photos lining the walls, but only after hanging up her jacket and removing her shoes. The young girl caught a glance at her body-frame; it was much thinner than she anticipated, reassuring the fact that Aeron was, in fact, female.

“Crystaaaaal!”

The cry suddenly caught the girl’s attention. Barreling towards her was a young Wartortle. Slipping on the floor, he pulled into his shell momentarily to prevent injury. He still slid along, before nearly stopping. Clumsily he popped out of his shell again and leapt into the girl’s arms.

“Ah, Worki- augh!” she laughed and cried out nearly simultaneously, knocked over from the Skull Bash. She landed roughly on the hardwood floor. Tightly he hugged her, disregarding the fact he had tackled her down. “Hi! Haha, geez! Ow…”

“Crystal, I missed you! It’s been so boring around here without you!”

“I’ve only been gone for four days, Worki! Haha, ow! S-stop, you’re crushing me!”

“Sorry, but all I’ve had for company around here is the Missus, your brother and that burly-brained thug. Ahhhh, yessss, that’s the spot. Right there…” His words trailed off as he grunted in satisfaction; Crystal had taken to rubbing his wing-like ears and poofy tail.

“Tch, I heard that, you little Squirtle,” a female voice threatened. Glancing up, the young girl beamed at the Machoke. With her hands on her hips, she gazed down somewhat sarcastically at the Wartortle.

“Yeah, you should have! All you ever want to do is battle or something! You’re no fun whatsoever at all!” Worki jabbed a claw accusingly at her.

“All you ever want to do all day is stay stuck in that little shell of yours and play in puddles,” she coolly retorted.

“Sheila, Worki, come on. Stop fighting. It’s too early too,” Cyranea called from the stove.

“Ah, I thought Sheila was a human,” Aeron bashfully noted as the two continued to bicker.

“Nope. Sheila’s the nickname my brother gave her. Not sure why though,” Crystal shrugged, before turning to the feuding Pokemon. “Come on, Mom says to cut it out, you two. Be nice for Aeron!”

“Hmm?” Both nearly hummed at the same time, glancing off in the direction of the new human. Curiously they gazed at Eru, whom followed suit. At once the two took more formal stances. “Oh, she’s travelling with you?”

“Yeah. She rescued me, so you have to be really nice to her, okay?”

“Wait, rescued?!” Worki snapped his head immediately to the side, along with Sheila. “What do you mean, rescued! Crystal, you were in trouble?!”

“Are you hurt? …oh my lord, you have burn marks on your arm.” The Machoke gingerly took her arm into her massive hand, carefully examining it.

“Come on, I’m fine!” Crystal hastily managed. Her stomach gurgled as the scent of bacon became more than she could handle.

“Ma, is breakfast ready? …ah, the lil’ punk’s home!” Another man strode into the room. Standing much taller than any single person or Pokemon in the room, he rubbed his extremely short blonde hair. Fixing his glasses, he meandered over. “You brought a guest too?”

“Yeah. Aeron, this is my brother, Will. We call him Wizar though. Wizar, this is my new travelling companion, Aeron Gunnar.”

“Pleasure to meet you,” Eru offered, extending her hand. He took it with force.

“Nice to meet you too. The brat causing you trouble yet?”

“Hey!”

“Too much,” the experienced trainer groaned.

“Come on now, Will, stop teasing your sister,” Cyranea scolded, finally placing a large plate stacked with flapjacks to the dining table, before bustling off to fix up some eggs. “Erin, what would you like to drink, honey?”

“Would you happen to have any ginger ale?” she politely questioned.

“Yes, of course.”

“I’d love some, please!” she beamed.

“Water for me…” Will attempted.

“You can get it yourself. I’m not your slave,” she hissed back.

“But you’re over there anyways, Ma!”

“…is it always like this?” Eru whispered.

“Yeah, pretty much.” The young girl nodded back to her, taking her spot at the table. The experienced trainer was a touch reluctant to sit down, as Worki practically leapt onto the chair she was about to sit on. Slowly she sat across from Crystal. Cyranea was quick to bring water for her daughter and a can of ginger ale for Aeron. The latter made haste in opening the can and downing some of its contents, in order to avoid conversation.

“So, Crystal, do tell about this…saving story. And don’t leave anything out. I know when you’re lying to me,” Cyranea called from the kitchen. Wizar snapped his head towards his mother, then to his sister.

“What’s this about saving now? You get in trouble for real?”

“None of your business!” Crystal whined. Even the Pokemon surrounding her seemed interested. He reemerged from the kitchen with a sloppily made bacon-and-egg toast sandwich.

“Corf is mah bisness!” he muttered through a bite. “Your mah lil siftur. I haf to know thef things.”

“Will, don’t talk with your mouth full!” Cyranea roared from afar. “Crystal…”

“Okay, okay! Geeze. I just…” Nervously she bit her lip. She had to get it out of her system, as fast as possible. “Okay! Team Missile jumped me while I was en route to Sunrise, kidnapped me, enslaved me, really hurt Breeze and took my poor Oddish Flora too, and made me work for them because I can talk to Pokemon! Okay?! It’s all my fault, and you were right, and now Breeze could be dead! Are you happy?!”

At once the girl buried her head down onto the table, near silently sobbing. All parties glanced at her with pity. Her mother briskly turned off the burners and hurried over.

“…honey…”

“It’s all my fault…”

“I wouldn’t say so,” Aeron shook her head. “Team Missile was probably just waiting for the right moment to kidnap you. From what I’ve learned, just doing some research at the library, they plague this entire region much like Team Rocket plagued Kanto…”

“They…are Team Rocket,” Crystal hiccuped gently. Aeron gave a small note of astonishment. The blubbered words didn’t seem to indicate the young girl was feeling any better, so the elder trainer hastily continued.

“Well, ah, Team Rocket is nothing to laugh at, pitiful name change or not. Point being, I was luckily in the vicinity of the building when she was in captivity. I sprung her out via a teleporter they had. It ended up taking her to Twilitsong, and from there I took her back home.”

Gratefully all parties gazed over. Crystal began to calm down a little, moreso as Aeron shoved the handkerchief into her arms again. “What on earth were you doing at Team Missile’s headquarters, though? Did you have some sort of death-wish?”

Even the young girl glanced up. Eru hadn’t told her either. She moved in for her soda with great speed as she muttered her excuse out.

“They stole my bag.”

“Wait, what?!” the young girl gasped. “All that for your bag?!”

“Well, yeah. It’s practically got everything I need to survive in it,” she dumbly responded. “My entire identity is in my bag. My badges, my trainer card, my Pokegear’s on it…I doubt I could survive long without it. I’d be in big trouble.”

“You must be extremely powerful to even think of taking Team Missile on!”

“You’re very fortunate you made it out alive!”

“Lemme put it to you guys this way: that’s not the point. Point is, I rescued Crystal, and Team Missile will be after her.”

A short silence fell across the group. The truth stung more than ever for the gifted girl.

“Crystal, I knew this was a bad idea. You have to stay home now-” Cyranea began, but Aeron shook her head and interjected.

“They won’t stop, no matter what. That means that they’ll be coming here to look for her too. This will be the first place they look, next to Twilitsong. And, if they can’t get her, they’ll probably try and come after you guys to use as bargaining tricks. That is, if she remains here.”

Mrs. Hikara paused solemnly.

“And, what if she tries to head out towards Sunrise? She’ll be picked off again!”

“I’ve made a deal with your daughter, actually,” Aeron continued. Finally she began plucking pancakes off the plate and placing them onto hers. “I’ve agreed to take her under my wing as a student, and I’ll also provide her with the bodyguard assurance that she will not get harmed again. In return, she’s going to help me find a special Vulpix. If at any time things get too rough, and Team Rocket- Team Missile, same difference, apparently- gets to be too much for me to even handle, I’ll move you to a safer region, such as Kanto or Johto. I have connections with both regions. I assure you that they wouldn’t be able to track where you head. …I do hope that this is suitable?”

Cyranea stood for a moment in silence. Worki gazed over, before trotting over to his owner’s side. Even with the Wartortle attempting to comfort her, she slid into a chair uneasily.

“It’s for your safety, Mrs. Hikara. And yours, Will. Heck, for all of your safety. Unless you can find a way to get Kira to retire from the Pokemon League, or track down Ryouo and convince either to stay here permanently, which is not only unlikely but entirely unfair for them, the only other choice we have is to lead them on a wild goose chase. It’s a dangerous option, as I didn’t know that Team Rocket was involved in this…but I feel it’s far safer than the other choices. If we just dangle the bait in front of them, they'll stupidly chase after it, without a doubt.”

Mrs. Hikara blankly stared at Aeron. Even Crystal held her breath. It was hard to believe that the situation was as dire as it was, but the experienced trainer’s words were true to heart.

“B-but,” the mother began nervously, quaking gently now, “I-if Crystal is to go out there…”

“Yes, she’d be going out on her own adventure.”

“Her Pokemon were kidnapped…”

“I’m loaning her a makeshift starter.” The tomboy made sure to place extra emphasis on the ‘loaning’ part. Crystal glumly glanced down to her belt. The odd Pokeball rested there. It was extremely easy to forget that Dragola wasn’t her own Pokemon.

“I-I see,” she continued to stutter. “I would say I wish to see her, but…in all honesty, I’m somewhat afraid…”

“I know, Mom…but she’s really nice,” the girl offered, bringing up the orb for her mother to see. The dubious expression aged Cyranea a few more years.

“It’s…black.”

“It’s a Heavy Ball,” Aeron hastily explained. “I threw that instead of a Fast Ball, haha. They’re quite popular over in Johto.”

“Johto? That’s a good bit off from here. Even Kanto’s a little far away, and we nearly border them.”

As Aeron continued, Crystal fiddled with the oddly colored Pokeball. “Yeah, I know. I was born in Sunburst, but my family moved to Ecruteak when I was still really young-”

A sudden scream cut her off as the ball tumbled out of Crystal’s hands onto the table, then the floor. The device snapped open with an unexpected flash of light, revealing the long creature. Dragola gazed around, confused by the surrounding change. As she ogled up at Crystal’s family members and their Pokemon, Cyranea was screeching and shoving Worki in front of her.

“SNAAAAKE! IT’S A SNAKE! CRYSTAL GET IT AWAY FROM ME! GET IT AWAY NOW!”

“Mom, she’s not a snake!” Crystal attempted. “Her name is Dragola, she’s really nice-”

“SNAKE! YOU KNOW I REALLY HATE SNAKES! PUT IT AWAY!” she cried, nearly crawling up onto a counter as the Dratini slithered slightly closer.

“Why is she trying to run, Ms. Crystal? I’ve seen lots of meanies try and chase after me, but none ever ran from me…”

“Ah, erm, you best just…get back in your Pokeball…Dragola, was it? The Missus is a bit…afraid of most Pokemon. You have to forgive her…” Worki sweat gently as he pushed her back towards Crystal.

“But why?”

“I’ll explain later,” the gifted one noted weakly, holding out the ball. The serpent gazed dejectedly at the ball.

“It’s…very weird in there. I don’t want to go back in…”

“SNAAAAKE!”

“Please, before my mom orders Worki or Sheila to do something about it! They’re nice but…trust me, it’s for the best,” Crystal pleaded. It wasn’t long before the dragon Pokemon bowed her head and allowed herself back into the orb.

There was a moment of awkward silence that filled the room. Aeron glanced over, eyes narrowing slightly.

“I told you not to get too attached,” she scowled under her breath.

“She only listens to me when I call her by that name, though.”

“Just…don’t. Else I will take her away.”

Finally it seemed as though the aging woman had caught her breath. She was still shaking all over. Hastily, Will offered a new topic.

“Ah, ha, I guess that proves you’re a fairly tough customer, then, Aeron! I’ve only heard accounts of people catching dragon types like that one, or evolving them or something.”

“Hmm? Yeah. I’ve had some decent exposure to dragon Pokemon by now.” She coolly shrugged it off. “…regardless, as sad as it is to say, I think we should be on our way out soon.”

“Aww, but why? You just got here.”

“Yeah, but we are going to be tracked by Team Missile soon. The quicker we make it to Sunrise and make our presence known there, the better…for all of your sakes.” Aeron nearly got to her feet, but not before the plate before her caught her attention. The pancakes were still hot and ready to be eaten. She stared blankly, before sitting down. A quick glimpse of her mother’s slightly upset face also made her bashfully smirk.

“Ah, but first, breakfast! It IS the most important meal of the day, you know! And you did go through all of this terribly hard work to make all of this for us, so it’d be an insult not to just eat it all up!” Aeron laughed, piling a few more flapjacks on before loading up with syrup. Crystal doubtfully glanced at the mountain of pancakes.

“Y-you’re not going to eat all of that, are you?” Cyranea finally found her voice, stealing the words straight from her daughter’s mouth.

“Uh-huh. I come from a family of big eaters,” she nonchalantly responded, cutting a few pieces off before shoving it into her mouth. She stopped. And she chewed. And swallowed. She gave a long, satisfied sigh.

“My. God. These. These pancakes. They have to be from heaven. Crystal, you did NOT tell me your mom could cook so well.”

Mrs. Hikara beamed. Some life came back to her face.

“I’ll prepare some goody bags for you two. It’s a long walk to Sunrise, you know. Oh, and Crystal, whatever did happen to your Pokegear?”

“Hunhf?” the young girl managed between a mouth of the breakfast pastry. It was the first time she had truly thought about her Pokegear since having last called her mother.

“It’s damaged,” Aeron offered. “It’s in the left pocket in the back. I had to open it to remove the tracking chip Team Missile put in it. It’s been acting up since then, given the virus-engineering they put into the system if the chip’s removed. We’ll have to get it fixed. Ohhh, these pancaaaakes, they’re soooo good…thank you, Mrs. Hikara, you have given meaning to my life again.”

“But of course, Erin. Well, I did hear about one of the Silph administrators or managers or something of sales was in town on business. Maybe you could catch him? Or not, Silph does have a nice small division in Hourchime. Even then that’s a bit of a walk from here…you be sure to call every other night, you hear, Crystal? Oh, I hope I’m not being a bother on your part, Erin, requesting you let her borrow your Pokegear till then?”

“So long as you cook for me for the rest of my life,” she nearly wept as she dove into her third pancake.

“It’s a shame you have to leave so soon. I’ve made sure to pack your little bag well with things though. Crystal, I’ve packed your lunch as well. Be sure to share your lemonade! Call me when you reach Sunrise, alright? Please?”

“Yes, Mom,” she muttered through a mouthful.

Cyranea bat Will lightly over the head.

“Wha-ow! What was that for?!” he roared.

“Because you’re a negative influence on her,” she bellowed back. “Don’t you have that new job to do over in Portview for the next week or so?”

“Riiiight. Gotta go, twerp. The duty of a construction worker calls! Come on, Sheila, time to take some steel rods and two-by-fours to the gunshow.” Wizar flexed his muscles, grabbed his coat, and after the Machoke gave her farewell to the family, both exited the house. A Staraptor took to the skies seconds later.

“Mmmph. Darn you, stomach. I will…consume…ugh I can’t finish this. It’s so good though…I’m sorry…” Eru cried as she had to push the plate away. Four pancakes and a half had been devoured.

“I think that’s a new record,” Cyranea hummed as she lifted the satchels up onto the table and let them land with a heavy ‘clunk’.

“No, Ryouo did eat five-and-a-half that one time, remember?”

“Oh, yes, nearly forgot about that! Haha. It’s been a long time since someone has come close though. That boy was moaning for the rest of the day after that.”

“Yeah, until suppertime came and he said he was starving again,” Crystal chuckled. Aeron shot her eyes back and forth between the two, attempted to lift her fork again, but found herself unable to push herself further. Instead, she rose to her feet.

“Well, once again, thank you so much for the delicious meal. I think it’s time we take our leave. There’s a lot to do when we get to Sunrise.”

“Oh, of course. I wish you two have a safe and happy trip…and especially a safe one because of Team Missile. Crystal, please call me. Don’t forget to brush-”

“Please, let’s not go through another hour of the ‘going-away’ speech,” Crystal whimpered, hugging her mother once again. Worki cried in protest, but not before she could silence him with more ear-scratches. Aeron grunted as she easily slid the meal pouch into her massive bag and slung it over her shoulder. With that half-moon wave, she retreated outside. Crystal allowed her mother one more moment for the embrace before she, too, geared up and left home.

Aeron was impatiently waiting, stretching in the bright morning light of Dawndew. “Aaaah, finally. I didn’t know if I could avoid swearing all that much longer.”

“It makes you sound really dumb, you know that?”

“Yeah? And your point is…?”

“Whatever!” Crystal huffed, glancing down the dirt road. For the first time in her life, she was somewhat reluctant to head down Route 49. “Well, I suppose we should head out…oh, but maybe we could catch that Silph guy here! He may be able to fix it for us first thing here.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea, kid,” Eru sighed, glancing around. “…like I said, the faster we get away from your family, the better off we’ll be. They probably have already thought to come here, too. There could be spies hanging around the corner.”

“But, my Pokegear…!”

“Is not that important. Come on, let’s go… …” The elder trainer’s words fell short as she heard a motor running closer from up the hill. She narrowed her eyes and muttered a quick ‘get behind me, but look natural’ to the girl. Within seconds the vehicle came into view; strangely like the previous kidnapping van, the difference was the horrendous bright yellow coloring with a large black S plastered on the side. It slowed down in front of the two trainers. The sound of the shotgun door opening and closing made Crystal slightly nervous. She shuffled about, trying to appear disinterested.

“Hey, do you know where the Hikaras live? I have a package for them…”

As the man strode around the corner in his black suit and yellow tie, Crystal gasped and attempted to fully hide herself behind Aeron. He hesitated, before his smile grew twicefold.

“No idea,” Eru bluntly lied, attempting to maintain her composure.

“Ah, but I think you know very well you’re sheltering Ms. Crystal Hikara right there.” The man dipped his head, as though tipping his hat for her. The indigo eyes sunk deep into her soul as her hand rapidly found her burn wounds. “…come now, girl! We have the package waiting for you…”

“She’s not going anywhere with the likes of you, I’m sorry to say,” Aeron continued, her hand wrapping around a Pokeball tightly.

“I’m sorry to say we haven’t been acquainted, Mr…”

“It’s Ms. Going-to-stomp-over-your-face unless you leave. It’s clear this little façade isn’t working too well for you, Team Missile Grunt.”

“Grunt! Ha! I think you’ll be wishing to take those words back after we see you dead, citizen.” Christopher Johnson slowly allowed his smile to grow as he removed a Missile Ball from his pocket.

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

oh hey it's me THAT FIEND CHRIS JOHNSON WHAT WILL HE DO TO OUR HEROINE????

Okay, fine, you were right, I loled at the name thing. YOU WANT A COOKIE OR SOMETHING >O

It's late and I am ultratired, but I posted because I said I would. so there. be happy. :]

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

I lol at you scoffing my compliment! Because whether it's personal bias because of the subject material or not, my thoughts are genuine with this - I PREFER this to some of the actual writings I've read, whether they are technically "better" or not.

Far be it from me to poke this here, but:

"I was luckily in the vicinity of the building when she was captivated."

Now it might be just me not knowing all the meanings to a word or w/e, but is that honestly a viable time to use that word? It probably is, and it's only because I've never seen the word used like this before that I'm even questioning it, but usually captivated means more like... idk, infatuated? But again, it's probably just me there.

“It’s a shame you have to leave so soon. I’ve made sure to pack your little bad well with things though."

I only catch them if they stand out, and this one did to me :p

As for the whole Eru (lol you went between Eru and Aeron, is that going to be a running thing?) thing, naturally the character I would link her to most from before is Kiyo, given that obviously who she's replacing. Compared to KIYO she's much nastier, that's for sure. I'm sure she does have her reasons, but that doesn't change facts!

The family thing went... slightly better than expected actually. AND WHAT IS THIS MADNESS PMJ STOP RUINING THE MOMENT AND GET OUT OF HER FIC OR ELSE... I DON'T KNOW BUT IT WILL BE REALLY BAD. (Yes I do know where the joke is from before you say anything, I was there)

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

Don't tell me what I can and can't say woman!

Yea, noticed the "bad" too, and I think you meant captive right? Besides that, I didn't notice anything.

Now, back to Halo Reach!which is more awesome then this

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

Oh you didn't.

You're in for it now boy...

/me runs from the impending female rage

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

That thing is female?

Pfft, as a Spartan of the UNSC, fighting aliens, saving lives, going against the odds, I''m not at all scared...but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

*Readies Armor Lock-down

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

*whips out the blue screen of DEATH on CA* >D OH SO SORRY!

Also I have no idea what you two are talking about. There's nothing like what was quoted, sorry to say. :B Grr they've found my weakness!

Also yeah, considering Eru's her nickname. So Crystal may call her that once in a grand while, especially if they're in a really public place with Missile surveillance hanging around. :B

Off topic, but today I actually gave some thought to some Noontide events, and I'm very thankful that I haven't written and posted it yet; I think I averted a major disaster by avoiding a death there. WHAT? WHAT? DEATH?! YES I SAID THAT WORD. DEAAAAATH. :00000 But yeah. You'll all know what I'm talking about once you see it. (At least I hope it'll be obvious...) The way I figure it, that person getting killed would lead to very unfortunate consequences that would alter the storyline far too much. (It was only after reading PMJ's fic and giving it thought that I came to this conclusion.) Soooo yeah, hopefully you guys'll understand my decision! Anyways, back to the grinder. There are many things to write about in the next three chapters!!

BTW, RQO will be divided into (estimated) 12 parts. Each part has 10 chapters (again estimated). Not gonna lie-can't wait for some third-part stuff. 8th, 9th are pretty pro too, but the climax only starts at 10. Yeaaaah, so if you think 10's exciting, wait till you see freakin' 12. Hoo boy I hope to make this baby go out with a bang. Seriously. :D

So yeah more comments and less strikeouts are desired :B

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

120 chapters from the most epic writer on Poke'beach? Oh you have so gained my undying support. I really want to read 120 chapters of this! =)

Anyways for the recent chapter, I laughed at the gym leader so much that my friends looked at me strangely. (I think they are so going to send me to the asylum) Eru has a lot of mood swings. -__-

~NZ

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

...I'm on a Mac!

So around 120 chapters? Awesome! still not better than Reach

I personal don't think of number of chapters or pages in my case (still working on mah story). Usually, I stop when it feel's right, but never make it so I can't add more or edit parts should I want to, Which I do constantly...

And deaths, I hated when I wrote stuff for my English portfolio...Until I got into writing a lot war stuff for a bit (including a HALO piece that rocked, at least they told me it did...) Of course it was a few supporting characters and "red-shirts" I killed off.

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

Oh yeah I was gonna mention this before but totally forgot to. 'Extremespeed' (what a name) reminds me of the typical super hero who thinks he is VERY SUPER and does not hesitate (ever) to remind everyone that he is SUPER DEEEEE DUPER!!!!

It made me lol.

Also hear that, CH? MOST EPIC WRITER ON POKEBEACH. Better than me, better than cal, better than EVERYONE!!!!

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

I really like the chapters. I can not wait to read all 120 chapters. :F Great, now you made drool all over my keyboard. Now, my brother can not play Halo 2. He is going to be very upset at me. *goes to a far away place* Wait, that is a good thing. He now has to get fresh air. *comes back* Thank you, CH.

RE: Rose Quartz And Onyx- The Revival

NZ: Hahaha, really? You're up for that much pain? >D Sounds fiiiine to me...
Also, good to know Mikey got a fan here. |3 And yeah Eru's a little odd. You'll see about her in due time...

CA: *noms on the Mac* EW GROSS MAC D:
Anyways, it's just a rough estimation. It may well have more than that. It also seems to happen that I get to suitable places to stope at the 10-15 mark, so it works out well for me. :B
Deaths are kinda necessary for this story imho. There will be a couple but just a few. :B

eevee: lol, you're...welcome? :V Hope y'all be stickin around that long...

bacon: Yes...and...bacon and homefries too

HEY YOU LOOK HERE FIRST! IMPORTANT THINGY HERE!!!

Yeah, so a quick note...I'm coming close to the end of Part 1, and I have decided to do something totally silly and have a mini podcast-like thing about RQO. THUS! I need questions from ALL my viewers (barring PMJ; I already have some from him) concerning RQO, be it somewhat silly or serious, concerning the characters or the storyline, or just about myself as a writer...I'll answer the questions as best I can. So please gimme your questions so I can answer them by the end of Part 1! :000

That is all. [/endimportantism]

Oh it's been over a week huh. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS GUYS?! IT'S TIME FOR AN UPDATE!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 7: Suppuration

“I take it you know this fool,” Aeron scowled under her breath as she watched the Junior Administrator casually toss his Missile Ball up and down.

“He’s the one that kidnapped me,” Crystal nodded, still sheltering herself. Her blue eyes darted about, fearful of any nearby grunts waiting in ambush.

“I see. Name, rank? What do you know about this guy?”

“Christopher Johnson. He’s a Junior Admin, I think.” As soon as her words finished, Eru swore under her breath heavily. “He has a…a Houndoom and a Vileplume.”

“…Alright, that’ll make things a touch easier.” The elder’s hand switched from one Pokeball to another; it was marked with a deep gash on the top.

“Tch, you’re actually going to try and challenge me? Arrogant. I like that in a woman,” Chris sneered. Contrary to his cocky words, though, he took a serious grasp on his orb. “Hope you have burial plans set for yourself and your Pokemon.”

“Over your dead body first,” Aeron coolly responded. Her face was blank, concentrated. Even the younger could sense the intimidation factor rising between the two opponents.

“Haha, definitely feisty. Come on, dear. What’s your name, hmm? If you have the guts to say such things, I’m sure we could…talk things out and have you potentially join Team Missile at a pretty good starting position…”

“Like I said, over your dead body first, loser,” she hissed. Finally she unlatched her ball. A dangerous fire burned in her eyes.

“I think you’ll maybe reconsider my proposition. But, enough talk. We must decide whom keeps that lovely trophy behind you.” Crystal flinched as he once again smirked her way.

It happened all at once; both trainers shouted out the names of their Pokemon and chucked their Pokeballs into action. Brilliant flashes blinded all at the scene. Within seconds of materialization, and without waiting for their trainer’s command, both fire types leapt into action. The bright figures dashed forward and let blinding fire out of each other’s mouths. The force of the flames colliding resolved in a small explosion, sending the two competitors back.

A moment after the smoke cleared, the two fire types could be seen. Once again Doomsday was by Christopher’s side. Not too far from Kiyo’s was a large lizard with flames leaping high off its tail. Its eyes narrowed, licks of fire from the Flamethrower escaping from its breath. The bright crimson coloring of the creature forewarned of its nature, as it turned to its trainer.

“Tch, I gotta fight against that wimp?” the Charmeleon scowled, using his clawed hands to convey his displeasure. “You’s always havin’ me battle the trash.”

“Blaze, wise up for a second,” Eru called to get his attention. A severe snarl was plastered over Doomsday’s muzzle. “See them guys? Team Rocket. Team Missile now.” The name seemed to register with the fire type, and he suddenly tensed up. The fire on the end of his tail flared up as his eyes narrowed. “Yeah, that’s right. You remember them as a little Charmander right? Those fools?”

“Team Rocket? Those punks?” he hissed. “Thought that one kid chased em off…”

“Bad trainers. Bad. But they’re strong. Be serious here.”

“Still, that was a while ago when I couldn’t take them on. I suppose it’s payback time, you little wiseguy,” Blaze smirked and flexed his muscles subtly. Aeron frowned.

“If you’re done speaking to your beloved partner for the last time, we could battle,” the Missile operative offered sarcastically. Without waiting for a further response, the Houndoom ran straight in, large jaws wide open. Blaze quickly stepped to the side, swinging his tail down onto the opponent’s back. Unfortunately the attack slipped and hit one of the bone-like growths on Doomsday’s back. The flame Pokemon leapt back, cursing heavily as he held his tail.

“Blaze, stop farting around!” Eru growled. “Get in there with some real attacks!”

“Don’t you try an’ boss me around!” he retorted, and danced out of the way of another powerful Crunch. This time Blaze lengthened his claws and lashed out with a heavy Slash. Hitting nothing but flesh, the Houndoom howled and backed off as the claws tore through skin down into actual muscle. He flinched back in pain for a moment. Chris narrowed his eyes.

“Doomsday. Thunder Fang,” he ordered.

After a moment’s hesitation, the dark dog leapt forward. Once again the jaws were opened, this time electricity crackling between all the sharp canine teeth. Blaze had only a moment to shuffle off to the side this time, but the attack nicked him. He let loose a dangerous growl as he shuddered in pain.

“Sludge Bomb!”

“Earthquake! Finish that fool off!” Aeron commanded. A slight look of dis-ease climbed over her face. Doomsday had began drooling a foul-looking substance, before it regurgitated a large lump of nasty filth directed at the Charmeleon’s face. The attack was so fast Blaze could only twist his body around so his back would take half the blow. Growling in pain as the liquid ooze stubbornly clung to his body and clogged his pores, he leapt in the air, threatening to once again Slash his opponent. A near miss made the lizard land roughly; soon enough the earth shook violently and shrapnel from small fissures pierced through the Houndoom’s skin. The beast cried in pain and toppled over, no longer able to stand on all four paws. He cried in pain gently, before he threatened the Charmeleon with a heavy growl. Blaze stood over him, arms crossed confidently.

“That’s why you don’t mess wit’ the boss,” the lizard chuckled. “Piece o’ cake.” Contrary to his words, sweat was beginning to accumulate on his snout and body.

“I…I’m not through with you yet, you insignificant little piece of trash,” Doomsday snarled lowly, climbing weakly to his feet once again. However, Johnson raised his hand. The Houndoom peered back, confused.

“We know when we have lost,” the Missile Junior Admin announced, recalling his Pokemon. “Tougher than I thought. I guess I underestimated you for your skills because of the way you present yourself, trainer…”

“Next time, you’ll lose more than a battle,” Eru countered bluntly, calling Blaze to her side. “Now, am I going to have to send all my fire Pokemon on you and set fire to that sick little behind of yours, or are you going to leave with your tail between your legs?”

“Hahaha, such a sharp tongue. I do wish you would give me your name…”

“None of your business, you-” Aeron swore heavily at him. “Leave now and promise to stop chasing us, or else you will have the choice of being cremated for your funeral chosen for you.”

“I doubt one in your position could ever pull off such demands.” With his words, he leapt onto the Silph van and knocked on the cockpit glass. The engine revved to life. “I will have your name, girl. And Crystal?” The girl, silently watching the battle from the sidelines, jolted dangerously at her name. “I’ll see to it that you get into our clutches, personally. Next time will definitely be different.”

With that, the vehicle screeched off and down the forest road with Christopher still holding onto a bar sticking out of the car. Eru rudely gestured his way.

“All talk and no action,” she sneered confidently, before turning to Crystal. The girl only glanced up for a moment before her eyes traveled back down to the Charmeleon. He was still panting. “Well! Now that that sore butthole’s outta the way, what say you and I go knock out a couple of more grunts down 49?”

“Aeron, I think…something’s wrong with Blaze,” she managed. The elder trainer’s eyes glanced over to her Pokemon. True to the younger’s words, the creature was near hyperventilating. Sweat poured all over his body, quickly turning to steam. Some of the sludge from Doomsday’s last attack still covered his back. His fire had dimmed and taken a disgusting yellow color.

“What…oh no,” she muttered, immediately crouching down. “Blaze, come on, stop with the jokes. What’s the matter?”

“Oogh…dammed thing…slipped drugs into me…” he cursed, clutching his arms now. A slight shiver took over his body.

“Stupid Sludge Bomb and poison,” Aeron muttered coldly, whipping her pack off and immediately digging through a pocket. She turned a sickly color herself as her movements became more and more frantic. “…wait, where is it…?! Where’s that cookie…?!”

“What’s wrong?!”

“I’m outta Lavacookies!” Eru leapt to her feet roughly. “Crystal, what happened to that cookie I gave you back at the lake?!”

“I dunno, I gave it to you!”

“Liar! You ate it, didn’t you!? Dammit, girl, Blaze is in serious trouble here!” she swore, pacing about before crouching down next to her Pokemon again. The shudders had worsened. Crystal gulped; she hadn’t told her mentor that after they left for Twilitsong, the cookie dropped onto the ground, where it was quickly eaten by the local Pokemon. Still, pangs of guilt covered her face. “I need an Antidote as soon as I can get one. Is there a Pokemart here in town?!”

“No…but take him back to the house. I know where I can get one.”

“What do you mean, where you can get one-”

“The Pokemon of the forest know me and won’t attack me. I’m sure I can get one from them for Blaze. It’s my fault he’s like this right now, so I’ll do it!” With that, the blonde headed off with no remorse towards the forested route. Eru, in her panicked state, simply nodded and pulled a thick blanket out of her bag. It was only after Crystal was long out of sight did the elder realize her mistake.

* * *

“Please, Mr. Ziggy!” the girl pleaded, trying to follow the erratic path of the raccoon. “I know that you’ve found plenty of Antidote in the forest before!”

“I shall not do such a thing for the likes of you, you…trainer!” Mr. Ziggy thrust his head high and refused eye contact. “I do not have the time to spend on one such as yourself.”

“Come on, please look past the trainer part! I’m not even trying to capture you or anything! A Pokemon could…could seriously be hurt if he doesn’t get the Antidote in time-”

“And have you ever once considered helping us when we were far from well off? Hmm? Hardly, you selfish, selfish human. Now, be gone. I shall not have any more of this blathering.” Tail aloof and mind far from budging, he quickly shot off into the woods in a crooked trail. Crystal was left twiddling nervously with her hair.

“Oh, come on! I always helped the Pokemon here…if only Breeze or Flora were here…!” she sighed, exasperated. The sounds of the nearby fish in Dawndew Lake perked her attention. “…I really hope Kokomo could help…she’s the only one left I can turn to…” Swiftly she dashed down the path and down the hill towards the waterside. “…please be alright until then, Blaze…”

* * *

Cyranea meekly prepared a spot on the nearby counter as Aeron busted into the room, grunting as she carried the Charmeleon in the thermal blanket. “Oh, dear…what…what happened to him?”

“Poisoned. Please tell me you have some sort of antidote hanging around,” Eru worriedly shouted out. She was hasty to toss out a Pokeball. Mrs. Hikara flinched a touch as Freya emerged, and was sure to keep her distance. Soon enough, Blaze was laid down on the cold granite countertop, with the Flareon resting gently on top of his chest. Some of his shivers were eased, though massive amounts of heat still escaped into the air. The fire trainer wasted no time in yanking out several orange-colored bottles with spray nozzles on them. At once she took to spraying his forehead and other damaged parts. It seemed the toxins were spreading at a rapid rate.

“I…I’ll check…” she unsurely murmured, and bustled off. Whether it was to escape from the lizard and Eeveelution or to actually search for the antidote was left unknown. “…by the way…where’s Crystal?”

“She went searching out in the forest for an anti…dote…” Aeron’s words trailed off as the bottle was completely emptied. Her worried expression grew deeper and she swore heavily. “…- I forgot! Team Missile could be out there! Darnit!” She only afforded a glance to the door, before her eyes fell back onto the poisoned Pokemon. “Stupid!”

“You left her out there alone?!” Cyranea snapped as she ran back in.

“I was too worried about Blaze!” Aeron yelled in return. “I can’t believe I was so stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid!”

“Chaaar,” Blaze groaned, futily raising a claw in attempt to grab his head. The experienced trainer hastily returned to work on keeping his fever under control.

“Augh, I can’t go out to find her. I can’t leave him alone.”

“You can’t be blamed for that…Worki?” At her words, the Wartortle, previously resting on the chair from that morning, slid off and ambled over. “Find Crystal in the woods, and help protect her, please…”

“War!” He nodded, and briskly shot out the door. Aeron could only watch the turtle disappear into the forest.

“Does he understand what that means?”

“After I’ve asked him to so many times before, yes, he does,” the aging woman noted. “…I hope he can find her before she gets into too much trouble…”

“I hope so too…stupid…”

* * *

Various fish Pokemon swam away as the water rippled. Crystal’s hand clapped on the water in a peculiar rhythm, attempting to get the attention of one Pokemon.

“Come on, Kokomo…where are you…” she muttered to herself. Her eyes lit up as she saw the water before her form into the ridges of the Vaporeon. Her sandy-colored eyes gazed at the girl curiously, although she kept her distance. “Ah, Kokomo! Finally!”

“Hello, Crystal,” she calmly nodded, eying her trainer belt dubiously, before reading the expression on the girl’s face. “…something the matter?”

“Too many things, but I need some sort of antidote or Pecha berry right away! My friend’s Pokemon got poisoned really badly, and-”

“You’re…not going to try and catch me, are you?” the Vaporeon whimpered gently, still mostly melted with the water.

“No, of course not! I mean, unless you wanted to go with me, but I’m assuming you…look, have you seen any berries around here? At all? I really need it!”

Kokomo ruffled her mane gently, before sniffing the air. She glanced off into the distance, beyond Crystal, and gently nodded her head.

“Yes, but be careful. There are some foreign smells here…”

Before the gifted girl could question it further, the bubble jet Pokemon backflipped into the deeper water and immediately melted away. The ripples died away, except for the ones caused by occasional Magikarp attempting to feed on the bugs resting near the waterside.

The waiting game began. Each moment slipped by as though it were an hour for Crystal. The forest hummed with the sound of Nincadas in the afternoon sun, and the rare chatter of birds quibbling about their nests. The sound of the water lapping against the shore was gentle and constant.

Still, Kokomo did not emerge. The girl fiddled with her hair in her hands even more, before combing it back behind her ear. The water remained calm.

“Come on, Kokomo, where are you…” she muttered, anxiety plentiful in her voice.

At last, a set of bubbles seemed to be drawing closer to her. Immediately she rose to her feet, ready to sprint home with the berry, but her relieved face soon turned back to worry as a massive fish with primary colors leapt from the water, aiming for her. Its massive jaw was lined with sickeningly sharp teeth. At once Crystal scurried off to the side, leaving the vicious Pokemon to flop on the shore. Still it attempted to hop over, jaw opening and closing in hunger.

“W-what is that thing?!” she questioned worriedly, trying to keep her distance and gain shore on the creature. Her exclamation covered up the sound of footsteps from behind.

The girl screamed as she found tightly gloved hands wrapped around her. She offered a quick glance back; the man that held her in his tight grasp sported the Silph outfit, much like Chris Johnson had, but his grunt cap and wig were still on. The very sight of the cap made the new trainer’s heart pound. “Why hello there. See you’ve met my Carvahna?”

Crystal blue eyes shot back to the fish. It was still drawing closer, aiming for her legs.

“Now, if you agree to come silently, I won’t have my fish feed on your little meaty legs…”

“No!” she hysterically shouted, stomping down as hard as she could on his foot. The man showed no physical reaction, though he gave a short laugh. That laugh turned to a groan of pain as she kicked a higher- and more susceptible- part of his leg. His grip loosened; she took advantage of it to slip out of his grip with another kick to his stomach.

While the trainer was doubled over in pain, though, the Carvahna flopped nearer, and attempted to lash out for skin. Crystal yelped as teeth sunk into her leg. She fell to the shore, futily bashing the creature with her fist. The creature let go, only to get a more secure and disabling bite ready.

In a brilliant flash the Carvahna was cast away. The fish whined as static arcs covered its body. Dragola had released herself at Crystal’s cry, and after Thunderwave had been used, she slithered over to her trainer.

“Miss Crystal? Are you alright? You look hurt…”

“Dragola…thanks…wait, watch out…!” The new trainer warned, and the dragon turned just fast enough to make out the piranha Pokemon headed towards the two of them. Barely avoiding the Crunch attack, the dragon whimpered and attempted to swing her tail down onto the creature.

However, the paralysis acted up, stopping the fish a few inches short of the serpent’s Slam attack. Caught by surprise, Dragola cried out as the fish regained mobility and latched onto her tail. Eager for its home environment and slowly dying as it was kept out of water, the Carvahna jumped headlong into the water.

“D-Dragola!” Crystal shouted, rising uneasily to her feet. She hesitated, watching as bubbles surfaced not too far away. It was just then she realized she really had no idea what she was doing as a trainer; her Pokemon was fighting on basic instinct. The only two moves known to the girl were Thunderwave and Extremespeed. Besides that, Dragola was really on her own.

“Dragola!” she offered again, pain shooting through her leg. “Extremetree- er, speed!”

At the call, the Pokemon seemingly obeyed. A large splash broke the bubbling lake’s surface. Moving so fast that she could barely follow the two, she watched the dragon and the Wrapped Carvahna speed into a tree. Dragola completely disappeared a moment before impact, reappearing beside the trunk confidently. The fish Pokemon slid down slowly, flopping weakly in the mud.

Crystal gasped again as a tighter grip was employed against her. In a split second the grunt had not only recalled his Carvahna, yet sent out another round fish into the water. His hand wrapped dangerously around her neck. She could feel her pulse racing against his thick gloved hands as her head become light. It was all she could do to watch a giant purple puffer fish rise from the depths, spikes ready to fire.

“Sorry, kid, boss’s orders. That Dratini’ll die now to my Qwilfish unless you just give up…”

Futily she squirmed, air depleting rapidly as she choked on words. She watched as a wave of Pin Missile shot out at the poor dragon type. She could hear Dragola cry out in pain. The new trainer tried desperately to grab the Pokeball so that at least Dragola wouldn’t be harmed any more, but the armlock was overbearing. She gasped for air. Her leg throbbed with the infection breeding from the dangerous bite. Everything was clouding over.

Two Pokemon shouts relieved her of her worries; from the shore, a giant wave crashed down upon the Qwilfish. It flopped dangerously out of water, left completely defenseless without water to swallow and inflate itself with. At the end of the wave materialized Kokomo, a carefully wrapped leaf in her jaw. From the side Crystal felt cold water spray onto her as it connected with the grunt. Able to escape once again, she gasped for precious air as her head spun. Soon enough a giant shell shot out at the tumbling grunt. At the last moment, Worki’s skull made heavy contact with that of the grunt’s head. The man crumbled into a small pile.

“Crystal!” both Pokemon nearly yelled in unison, dashing over as fast as they could as the girl collapsed on the ground. A severely weakened Dragola slithered over not-so-quickly to her trainer’s side. Weak tears escaped from the girl’s eyes as she clutched her leg; while the wound wasn’t too deep, the suppuration was spreading and causing much more pain.

“Nnngh…” she grunted, attempting to stop the bleeding. Kokomo hastily let down her cache of berries and unfurled the leaves. A yellow pear-like berry was picked up and offered to her.

“Nah, Kokomo, that wouldn’t help…!” Worki shook his head, blathering on almost as bad as Cyranea would.

“But…! She needs some sort of medical treatment! I’ve seen berries work on her before…!” The girl hesitated, though, taking the fruit and handing it over to the long dragon. Both stared as Dragola glanced over.

“Take it…I need you to go as fast as you can to deliver the Pecha berry to Blaze for me,” she managed, still crying in pain. With little hesitation, the Dratini nodded, and swallowed down the fruit hastily. The wounds faded away, leaving a confident and healthy dragon at the ready for her mission. Kokomo packed up the Pecha berry and handed it over. The dragon faded from sight.

The pain was overbearing, as she clutched even tighter onto her leg. And now, they had to wait…

* * *

“You complete and utter dumb-my!” Aeron roared in rage as she stood over Crystal’s bedside. The girl winced back as more peroxide was dabbed onto the wound.

“Ow, ow, ow! Mom, that hurts!”

“I know, honey, but we need to bring this infection down…”

“And we cannot go to Sunrise for help. Which is why it was so stupid of you to do that!” the fire trainer continued, growling at the girl.

“Well, Blaze is okay, isn’t he?” Crystal countered, biting her fist as more of the rubbing alcohol covered her infection. “Owwww! Enough!”

“Hush.”

Aeron found herself searching for words. Not too far away sat Blaze. He peered into the wounded girl’s eyes, claws folded over one another in such a manner to mimic that of an Italian deep in thought. He, too, was recovering, yet as soon as he saw the condition of the one that saved him, he had turned completely silent about his suffering. Shaking her head, the elder trainer glared back.

“Putting oneself in such grave danger to save another is ridiculously stupid. You could have died, or been captured again, you know. Probably the latter, but you would have been in greater amounts of pain than you are now.”

“Stop reprimanding me!” Crystal retorted strongly, at last. “Blaze would be dead right now if I hadn’t gone, anyways! I had to ask Kokomo down at the lake for the berry, and- owowowowowow! MOM!”

“Stop arguing, you two!” the woman barked at once, gripping her temple. The peroxide swab had slipped and she had pressed too hard on the wound. The two had silenced themselves at that. “You’re both right. But right now, don’t argue too much about that. What’s in the past is in the past. We can’t change it, so let’s move on. Crystal, stay still. I need to finish cleaning this up before you can even think about going off again on this adventure. May I add that this is a terrible idea that this whole adventure thing continues…”

Silence still fell across the room as the blonde gritted her teeth. The throbbing of the antiseptic and the infection died off slowly as she was tightly bandaged up. She only glanced at Eru; it was obvious that her mentor was fighting for words. Impatiently she tapped a finger on her arm, a look of plain frustration covering her face. The elder refused eye contact, instead turning to the ceiling and muttering something beneath her breath.

At last, Cyranea rose to her feet, strands of her long black hair falling down her shoulders. “Now, you rest for at least an hour and a half. The bleeding should stop around then.” Once again, she seemed to search for words. “…Crystal. I know you. I’m your mother.” The young girl glanced over, doubtfully. “And I know that you’re going to continue, no matter what, especially with Breeze still missing. But…don’t let yourself get hurt. Please, for me…don’t do something like that again. And don’t trust too many people with your secret. Don’t display it openly in battle.

“I’m…beyond my years. I know that I can’t stop you from doing what you want to. I’d be an awful parent if so. Not to mention Kira and Ryouo would never let me keep you here again. And Erin has her points about the entire Team Missile thing. None of us could ward them off. So…please. Be careful, be strong and smart…and most of all, be yourself. Else I’m sure your older brothers will never let you go anywhere again by yourself if you do have to come home.”

The motherly figure brushed a strand of the oddly colored bangs out of her daughter’s face. She attempted to smile, but her face still spoke of the pain of separation. She glanced over to Aeron, who unfolded her arms as she caught eye contact. “Please…make sure to take good care of her. Don’t be too hard on her. I…I trust you, Erin.”

“Thank you,” Aeron uneasily nodded, awkwardly glancing at Crystal. With that sad smile, Cyranea crept out of the room and shut the door with a final order.

“And don’t fight too much. Worki’s sleeping off a bump to the head.”

Crystal gave a small giggle at that; he had began groaning about a headache soon after they had rid themselves of the Missile Grunt. It had been ages since he had last used Skull Bash. Aeron rolled her eyes quietly, yet once again her eyes fell on her Pokemon. Blaze hadn’t moved an inch, though he did take note of the mother’s departure. Once again, silence fell.

“Crystal, I-”

“Aeron…”

“No, no, you first,” the elder insisted.

“Sorry,” Crystal weakly smiled, shifting her leg with a flinch. “You’re right, it was dumb…”

“It was,” Eru flatly agreed. The reaction made the younger blush in embarrassment and anger. Hastily, she continued. “But I’m grateful for it all the same. Sorry, too. I guess I forgot what it’s like to be fresh out on the field…well, so to say. Fresh meaning without encountering life-changing events…”

She shot her eyes away, once again to the ceiling. Although her expression was the same as always- cynical, deadpan, with maybe a hint of amusement- the blonde could make out some sort of underlying pain stored away in the fire trainer.

“It’s…stupid, but I’m kinda not a people person. I’m always grateful, though. I guess I have a funny way of showing it. So I apologize too. Just don’t you dare go making such a dumb move like that again.”

“Alright, but to be fair, even if I had stayed with Blaze, you wouldn’t have been able to find a Pecha or a Lum berry in the forest. I had to ask several Pokemon, and the only one I could get it from was my friend Kokomo.”

“Yeah, who is this Kokomo? I thought it was an island in the Florida Keys,” Aeron slyly commented. The younger glared, before grunting as she shifted her leg in the wrong manner.

“No, no…Kokomo’s my friend that lives in Dawndew Lake. After I healed Breeze’s wing, as a reward she took me to a secret nesting area. Although I don’t think the parents were too fond of it, I got to watch Kokomo be born. She was evolved as soon as she was out of her egg by her parents. I was young at the time, so I just called her Kokomo based off a song I liked and her sandy-colored eyes.”

“What kind of Pokemon was she? A stone Pokemon, I take it…?”

“Yeah, a Vaporeon. She and I…” Yet Crystal let her words end. At once the hot-headed trainer twitched, her eyes narrowing dangerously. “…Aeron? W-was it something that I-”

“I’m fine, don’t worry. Just…have some poor memories about Vaporeon, that’s all. I’d rather not talk about it,” she abruptly muttered. Blaze turned his gaze over to his trainer. Finally he unfolded his claws. With a leap, he landed on Crystal’s bed, making sure to keep his tail up high. He trumped over before batting his trainer’s shoulder roughly.

“You. Stop acting like that, you hear?”

“Oww, Blaze…” Aeron grumbled, holding where he had punched her lightly. “Dang, boy, you’re getting strong…may have to get you an Everstone soon…”

“Lemme see dat bag o’ yours, lady,” he commanded, pointing at the bag.

“What, are you hungry?”

“He wants to see your bag for some reason,” Crystal translated automatically.

“Why? …oh wait, don’t-” Aeron queried, yet she was hasty to see her mistake. It could not be corrected as the gifted girl honed in on the Charmeleon’s language and began conversation.

“Hey, Blaze, why do you want her bag?”

“Cause, I want to treeaaaawait, what the 'ell?!” he heavily swore, backing away. His tail flame flared up as his eyes narrowed. “What kinda trick you tryin’ to pull here, girl?! And on the son of the Great Apollo, no less?!”

“Blaze, calm down, boy…” Aeron attempted to pull out his Pokeball, but the Charmeleon went on in his tirade.

“I don’t think so, sweetheart. You’ve been hiding somethin’ from me dis entire time. Look, kid, I don’t know who you think you are, but you’s better start explainin’ dis talkin’ business to me right now.”

“Um…I can talk to Pokemon? And so Team Missile’s after me?”

The Charmeleon stared blankly.

“You know, Team Missile? The owner of the Houndoom that you beat up and stuff? They want me because I can talk to Pokemon…”

“No, I heard you the first time. But you got to be jokin’ with me here.” He groaned, gripping his head. “God, Aeron, you pick the weirdest of people to hang around with! …so you can seriously understand me.”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I was gonna con the lady into givin’ ya something, but I suppose I can say thanks and all right here right now,” Blaze scratched his chin lightly, before smirking. He offered his clawed hand out. Somewhat reluctantly, Crystal took the shake. “Thanks, kid. You saved my life. That’s a very respectable thing to do for a Pokemon you don’t even know, puttin’ your life on the line for another. It’s almost like you’re a Pokemon yourself. Rare in trainers nowadays.”

“T-thanks?” she blurted meekly as he dropped the shake. He turned to his trainer.

“Now, get the lady to gimme her bag, will ya? I’m sure she won’t complain too much…there’s somethin’ I wanna give you for your hard work.”

Aeron expectantly stared at the younger girl.

“He says there’s something he wants to give me as thanks for saving his life.”

The elder paused, raising a finger to Blaze as she whipped off her huge bag. “Alright, boy, you better not take anything too valuable. Else, I swear to the legendaries, I will NEVER let you evolve into a Charizard. Ever. I won’t ever give it thought.”

“She says you will never evolve for as long as she lives if you take anything out that’s valuable,” Crystal translated once more.

“Pshhh, hardly valuable to her if she doesn’t even know I stowed it away in her bag. Now, lemme see here…” At once he clambered over into his owner’s lap with a grunt from the human. He craftily opened the largest part of the bag and dipped his head deep into it. After much rummaging around and the sound of zippers opening, the fire type cautiously pulled out a mass of blankets. Aeron rose one of her eyebrows gently.

“You want to give her a blanket?”

Blaze, still careful with his movements, soon returned to Crystal’s side on the bed. Gingerly he placed it into her arms. Massive amounts of heat escaped from the bundles.

“Like I said, the lady doesn’t know anything about this. But, well…I can’t describe it, kid, but I feel I can trust ya. The lady already has more fire types than she can handle, so…”

As the Charmeleon rambled on, Crystal peeled away the blankets like an onion. The gentle heat became slightly more intense as a rounded form was left on the last folded layer. Aeron’s look of perplexity melted away to a frown.

“Blaze, where did you…” she growled. “Lemme see that-”

With a quick tug of the last fold, an egg sat in the open. It nearly seemed to shiver from the cold air. It was brilliantly colored in orange and yellow hues, with small flame-like symbols covering the shell. It was no larger than a foot in height and couldn’t have been heavier than Dragola.

“An egg?” Crystal questioned.

“Blaaaaze?” Aeron glared at her Pokemon. “When did you get this…when did you mess-”

“Okay, I’ll admit, I had a thing with a friend. Wasn’t supposed to happen like dis. Of course the girl got upset and wanted to hide the egg from her trainer, so I was left to take care of it. Now, I trust you to take care of my child, you hear?” he hastily explained, crawling towards his Pokeball.

“Crystaaaal…”

“He says he found it on the road,” she offered meekly. “…can I keep it?” she added, seeing the same frustrated face as when she was given Dragola. The teenage trainer held Blaze’s Pokeball far away from him as he attempted to get back in. Her angry eyes glanced down at him.

“You aren’t off the hook yet, pal. I know what’s going on here.” With a long sigh and her eyes closed, she only offered a glance at the egg before recalling her Pokemon. “Yeah, fine. Chances are it’s a Pokemon I already have, given it’s a fire type egg. Consider it a thank-you gift from both Blaze and-”

“Haha, thank you, Aeron!” Crystal cut her off, giving a giant smile. Making sure to gently put the egg out of harm’s way, she leaned over and reached out for a hug. Aeron flinched back, taken by surprise. The younger paused, laughing nervously, before withdrawing. “Ah, haha, sorry…”

“It’s okay…just, don’t do that again, kay? You’re welcome,” she grumbled. “…looks like it’s gonna be a loooong road to Sunrise tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow?”

“You need your rest.” The elder nodded, rising from the chair by her bedside. She glanced around the room. “Besides, it’ll be dark before we reach the half-way mark. Camping with Team Missile right around the corner does not sound appeasing to me.”

“Fair enough.”

“God, why is your room so purple? It’s horrendous...” Eru shook her head, rubbing her eyes. “I’m going to go outside for some fresh air. Good god…”

“Haha…thanks again.”

“Yeah, sure. Nothing to it.” With that, the elder trainer left the younger alone. Curiously, Crystal peered at the egg. She bundled it up tightly as it shook again, and then held it close to her. The shakes seem to calm down at that.

“An egg, huh…? Wonder what it’ll hatch into…”
