Rugged Helmet from Red Collection

I see rugged helmet being used universally with any deck like how expert belt was widely used last format. It is just useful in any situation.

it's easily put into donchamp, which by the way will be more popular once catch comes out (fighting tag, so a built-in switch with benefits) so now with rugged helmet, there's definitely going to be an increase.

and with druddigon, don't forget it doesn't have a weakness and it's a basic. it would be put into a steel deck to use klinklang to move one metal energy then attach a DCE to have him charged up in one turn to do 60 and lock them in place unless they have machamp prime or switch. does another 40 if they attack meaning 100 damage dealt. it's like 60 with burn and they flip 2 tails (25% chance) and better than 60 with poison which would only be 80 by your turn.

I highly doubt you can make a deck around druddigon, but with rocky helmet, I can see that pair be a tech in metal decks easily, or even in emboar decks for energy acceleration or donchamp (it'll have rocky helmet already...why not tech in a druddigon or two? and the deck already runs DCE for machamp so make sure it's boosted to 4)

Anyone else think a samuphan deck could be made with this to tank tons of hits and rack up a bunch of damage? Potions/Moomoo Milks/Serperior to keep Rugged Helmets active longer.

Yeah agreed. I'm already calling it to be BDIF when Catcher comes out.

I have a question though. Say you have four Rugged Helmets out, and something like Kyurem or Tyranitar use its spread attack. Would that mean that the rugged helmets would stack and the attacking pokemon takes 80 damage?

rugged helmet only works from your active pokemon to the opponent's active attacking pokemon

yeah the translation the original post for this thread gave is inaccurate. if it were that way with any pokemon in play it would totally be broken...kyurem would see no play and snipe decks would be far less common.

I don't understand why people are saying it'll be good in decks A, B and C. It good in nearly any deck unless it's a deck that one-shots everything in the format. It just gives that added boost that can turn 2HKO's into OHKO's. Definitely too good to pass up in any deck (IMO).

its basically like expert belt.... but not as good.

trust me, this will go into everydeck minus decks that can use eviolite

Like Expert Belt but not as good? Idk, there's no penalty for using Rugged Helmet. Only extra damage on the opponent's Active. It's _way_ better than giving up a Prize. ._.

Sure, it doesn't have the extra HP+attack boost that Expert Belt gives (which is godly even in its own right), but I still like the effect. I don't see a drawback to this other than Yanmega Prime doesn't afraid of anything.

I actually prefer rugged helmet over expert belt for the exact reason dmaster gave. and I could attach it to my bench techs so they get penalized for trying to take out my techs. :)

Rugged Helmet IMO is better than Eviolite on Reshiram and Zekrom. For Reshiram it makes it so that you can one shot Donphan, and non-Eviolite other Zekrom/Reshiram, and with a Pluspower you can KO Eviolited Zekrom/Reshiram in one shot, which is a huge feat. Same with Zekrom although you need Ruins of Alph to kill Donphan.

^But with Eviolite on a Reshiram/Zekrom, you can't be OHKO'd by Zoroark/Reshiram/Zekrom+PP (unless, of course, the opponent had a Pokémon with Rugged Helmet you attacked the last turn). And with Rugged Helmet, you're much more likely to be OHKO'd– most decks don't hit 150 or anywhere near there, but 120's a much more common number.

The problem with that is shortly after the translation came out, it said it didn't work on the Bench? IIRC. So yeah, just a tad setback. Still good for the active Pokemon though.
