Here is my sand team:

[animate]tyranitar[/animate]
Tyranitar
Ability: Sand stream
@ Passho Berry
Adamant (+Atk -SpA)
252 Atk / 68 SpD / 168 HP / 20 Def

-Stone Edge
-Protect
-Crunch
-Earthquake

My sand streamer and has a move/answer to almost everything. It is the heart and soul of my team because of the sand stream, and I like it because it has such a big move pool and has a high attack stat, so it can use it's moves well. Passho berry is to make some attacks not kill it, like surf and sometimes even hydro pump. I find myself sometimes not fainting in a really key point of the game with these types of berries so I like to use them a lot. Passho berry is also very good because my team, being mainly a ground type team, is very vulnerable to water type attacks. No speed EV's is because it won't outspeed much even with speed EV's, and it will pretty much make sure I win the weather war.

[animate]gastrodon[/animate]
Gastrodon
Ability: Storm Drain
@ Rindo Berry
Quiet (+SpA -Spe)
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 HP

-Recover
-Earth power
-Muddy Water
-Ice Beam

I replaced Heatran with this mainly because of all the trouble I had beating rain teams. This gives rain teams a lot of problems, forcing them to not use water-type moves on it, forcing them to use moves like Ice Beam, but with Recover, 252 EV's invested in HP, and 4 EV's invested in SpD, this is an effective wall against any Pokemon on rain teams, save Ludicolo, but once I've taken care of Ludicolo this is ready to wreck havok on any normal rain team. Ice Beam is to hit pesky Dragonites and Kingdras for super effective damage, Muddy Water is a nice dual-hitting STAB move. Earth Power is also a nice STAB that can be abused a lot when Cressalia or Wash Rotom are out. The reason why I have no speed invested is because really the only time I'll be using this is when trick room is up.

[animate]cresselia[/animate]
Cresselia
Ability: Levitiate
@ Leftovers
Bold (+Def -Atk)
204 SpD / 72 Def / 232 HP

-Light Screen
-Psychic
-Ice beam
-Trick Room

I mentioned having a lot of trouble with rain teams, and this Cressalia joins Gastrodon in turning that matchup into a favorable one. I use it to set up a trick room to make the abused Swift Swim users (Ludicolo, Kingdra, etc.) become the slowest of the slow. After a trick room Gastrodon becomes the fastest, not to mntion it being a wall. Light Screen basically makes this take almost no damage from any special attack, and helps gastrodon take less damage to tank more. Ice beam is to hit Dragonites and Kingdras, while Psychic offers a nice STAB move. And before people say "get a better nature," I know, I'm trying to get a better nature right now.

[animate]garchomp[/animate]
Garchomp
Ability: Sand Veil
@ Haban Berry
Jolly (+Spe -SpA
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

-Dragon Claw
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Protect

Another sweeper. Some people might be thinking why not dragon gem and draco meteor?! My answer to that is I really hate having to lower my stats to use a move. I know I have to confuse myself for outrage but I can switch out and fix that. The Haban Berry is there to survive outrages, dragon claws, and occasionally draco meteors. I use protect to make them take more sandstorm damage, and surviving my other pokemon's earthquake without getting hurt. This has an amazing attack.

[animate]excadril[/animate]
Excadrill
Ability: Sand Rush
@ Focus Sash
Adamant (+Atk -SpA)
252 Atk / 56 HP / 200 Spe

-Earthquake
-Swords Dance
-Rock Slide
-X-Scizzor

A very good sweeper. After a swords dance I can deal massive amounts of damage while moving fast because of sand rush. Rock slide is amazing after a swords dance taking a lot of both of my opponents pokemon's HP. I'm debating putting leftovers on him instead of cressalia but still do not know. The Focus Sash basically guarantees that I get at least one move after my swords dance. This has SUCH a high attack its amazing as a sweeper.

[animate]rotom wash[/animate]
Wash Rotom
Ability: Levitate
@ Choice Scarf
Modest (+SpA -Atk)
252 SpA / 56 HP / 184 Spe / 16 SpD

-Dark Pulse
-Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Volt Switch

This adds on to the theme of making the rain matchup good. I like Rotom a lot because of levitate so I can abuse earthquake from other pokemon when he is out. It also takes care of water types just fine. Nothing really walls this, taking out things like Politoed's, Cressalias, other ground-type Pokemon, and many more. I'm am debating taking the speed EV's out and replacing them with Special Defense EV's and taking Choice Scarf off for Life orb, and make it more of a set that sweeps when trick room is up.

And remember:
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS WELCOME

*Approved*

If you could add some more to the description of Tyranitar, that would be awesome. Otherwise this looks good! I added some pictures for you btw. The excadrill one apparently isn't working, but meh. I tried. I'll be back for a rate later :F

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

Give us the EV spreads too. I'll be able to rate it when those are up (crucial little buggers).

Noob question: what is the EV spread?

Confusing stuff

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

Crucial to maximizing the potential of your Pokemon. Here's the first guide I found.

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

The sandstorm team has a good backbone, but I think the main attackers and supporters could be switched up a little bit to be more supportive.

Tyranitar could try Stone Edge and Protect over Fire Blast and Ice Beam, Fire Blast won't do much, as Pokémon like Ferrothorn and Bronzong aren't common in VGC. Protect is useful because Tyranitar can protect itself from Earthquake, if you need to use it with Garchomp or Excadrill. Stone Edge will hit all the Flying-types that Ice Beam is supposed to hit, although Rock Slide is an acceptable alternative as well.

Excadrill looks good, although try X-Scissor over Drill Run, because that way you will hit Cresselia and Uxie for super-effective damage. You might also want to try holding a Focus Sash, so you can gurantee that you get to use Swords Dance. Also, try to get an Adamant natured Excadrill instead of a Quirky one.

Garchomp should use Protect as well, Try it over Fire Blast. Garchomp normally uses Fire Blast to hit Bronzong or Ferrothorn which again, aren't very common in VGC. Also try to use Stone Edge or Rock Slide instead of Crunch, so you have a good way to nail Pokémon like Zapdos. Jolly nature would be better than a Docile one, since you no longer use any special attacks.

Ferrothorn and Bronzong aren't the greatest choices for VGC. VGC is a very offensive metagame, so walls can't really stand up very well. Even the great Blissey gets overpowered with enough time. I think if you switched Bronzong to Cresselia, that would be awesome. Cresselia has the same levitate ability, even better defenses, and a plethora of support options. Reflect, Light Screen, Trick Room, and Helping Hand are all great options. Cresselia also has Ice Beam, Icy Wind, and Psychic to use for attacking moves. If you don't have a Cresselia, then a Uxie with a set of Imprison/Trick Room/Helping Hand/Psychic would work as well. (Try to get a Calm nature for either one.)

Instead of Ferrothorn, you could try Rotom-Wash. Rotom-Wash would give you the same answer to Rain teams that Ferrothorn provides, with a great Specially attacking presence. A set of Hydro Pump?Thunderbolt//Trick while holding a Choice Scarf would be good. The 4th move could have a few options. If you can get Hidden Power with an Ice or a Fire typing, that would be great. Otherwise you can try Will-o-Wisp. Shadow Ball would be weak, but it would at least hit Latios and Latias. Otherwise you could try a Stirus Berry set with Hydro Pump, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave or Will-o-Wisp, and Protect.

Heatran looks good, the only thing I would try is either Dragon Pulse or Hidden Power Ice to hit Dragon-types. Otherwise it looks perfect. Air Balloon is a great item, Modest is a fine nature. Protect can be used over Stone Edge, but Stone Edge is useful for hitting Volcarona.

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

BUMP! Would like more opinions and need help finding room for stealth rock on one of these pokemon,

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

Take out magma storm on Heatran for stealth rock and BAM. Problem solved.

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

You shouldn't use Stealth Rock in a VGC team. There's a lot less switching and only 4 Pokemon, so its not nearly as useful. However, Magma Storm on a Pokemon with Heat Wave in doubles is still redundant. I'd replace it with a coverage move such as Dragon Pulse or Hidden Power, but I'm not sure what you're having the most trouble with so idk what move would work best.

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

Heat Wave is nice with its 30%(?) chance to burn, and hits both opponents, whereas magma storm really focuses on one opponent, and the extra damage that the opponent takes is rather not important, as they could just switch out. You could use a little more recovery, as a Latios with Draco Meteor + Dragon Gem will put Garchomp down, and Wash Rotom will be OHKO'd I think... Three of your guys are weak to fighting, so watch out for Scarfed Terrakion and Guts Conkeldurr. If you lose Cresselia, you literally will have no counter to fighting types. I think the best thing overall would be to remove Heatran or Excadrill. I also think Sand Rush + Swords Dance + auto sandstorm is illegal, due to the unfair advantage you recieve. Just food for thought

Excadrill is only illegal in OU. VGC uses a banlist more based on how a Pokemon can be obtained as opposed to how powerful it actually is.

Ok cool, thanks for letting me know. Gosh I'm still learning how to tell the difference! :S

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

BUMP. Made more changes to garchomp after finding that my careful one had MUCH better stats than the jolly one, and changed excadrill. WOuld like more rates!

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

Honestly, that Garchomp is going to take a beating at that amount of speed, especially since I believe it maxes at 333 or so. I'd work on getting better stats like that also, as those are just as important as movesets.

RE: Noob needs help with sandstorm team.

If this is for double battles Outrage won't be so good since you can't choose your target with Garchomp.

Yes, it is, what do you recommend I replace it with? Also I am wondering wether or not I should replace wash rotom with thundurus to paralyze fast with prankster.
