RE: Scizor (Prime) from Undaunted (#84) [8/24]
1. How does the card stand on its own? Is it good, bad, or have potential? Is it worth being played?
On it's own, this card is quite great. It's Poke Body makes it so that no Pokemon can damage it as long as that Pokemon has Special Energy attached to it. Most decks right now use Special Energy Cards, so this card will make players across the globe re-think running Special Energy Cards in their decks. And that's just it's Poke Body. It's attack, for two energies, doesn't sound that great at first. Then, you read the text. The attack does 30 damage plus 20 more for each {M} energy attached to Scizor. This, paired with two special Metal Energies, hit's for 70 and reduces 20 damage. With damage reducing energies and a damage stopping attack, Scizor is a tanking beast that can also deal a quick punch.
2. What popular metagame decks is it used in?
Right now, this card is too new to have any Metagame decks yet. Plus, it came out right after the rotation, when every deck is undecided. Yet, looking at Scizor Prime itself, I see it as more of a tech than a Metagame deck. But, I do see two decks with it: The first being with Scizor Majestic Dawn. That Scizor hits for 50 more damage if the defending Pokemon has a Special Energy attached to it. Scizor Prime completely stops damage from a Pokemon that has a Special Energy attached to it. Combined, the two can stop a deck with Special Energies in it's tracks. Another Deck I see it fitting into is Steelix. Steelix Prime is meant to be a tank, while dealing a hit. Same with Scizor. They're both Metal, so they coincide. I see a 2-2 line of Scizor fitting in snugly into most Steelix lists. Otherwise, A 1-1 line with two Metal energies might fit into a deck that has problems with Special Energy decks.
3. What combos can you use it with? How so?
As a combo, there's not much. I do see one option: Skarmory Undaunted. It, for a Colorless Energy, searches your deck for a Metal Energy and it attaches it to one of your Pokemon. It's not much of a combo, but it's the only one I see.
4. Give it a rating, and explain why you have given it that rating. You can also rate the card by rating the thread itself (out of 5 stars).
When this card first came out, I said, "What's all the hype?" As this post states, I now see the hype. Because of Scizor's versatility, I see it fitting into most decks. Heck, it could even be the next Luxray GL Lv.X. I can't give it a 5/5 yet, but I can easily give it a 4/5 for now.
5. How's the artwork?
The prime artwork, quite frankly, is boring. Mug shots. So amazing. As I've mentioned before, the Lv.X artwork is much better. But, for some reason, Scizor is one of few primes that catches my eye. Undaunted, really, has some good artwork altogether. For Scizor, maybe it's the combination of Red and Silver that adds the finishing touch. Maybe it's that it's striking a better pose than most Primes. Or maybe I'm biased. Who knows. Anyway, I give Scizor Prime a 4/5.
