Ok i saw scott pilgrim vs the world and honestly
the most underrated movie of 2010
its awesome
the fight scenes were awesome, the comedy was funny, angd the graphics were the best.
i dont understand why this movie failed to get tons of money in movie theaters
its sadly mostly gone from almost all theaters but i reccomend it to rent( or buy) on dvd:D
especially if you like old school video games:p

I don't know why you think that it is underrated. It got a B+/A- from most critics. It did more poorly in the box office because, in my opinion, of how it was described. I mean... who here wants to see a comic book movie with Michael Cera!? That sounds like fun, right? Any other comic book movie with Cera would fail in my opinion. The second problem was that the movie was made for gamers ages 15-25ish. Most people would not get the references in this movie. This is different than... the dark knight, for example, where everyone can get the main draw of the movie. SPvtW limited itself in fanbase. This is to say that other people can enjoy it, like my mom probably liked the movie more than me. Even so, she would not have seen the movie if I did not go. She kinda reguarded to the movie as silly gamer stuff before she saw it. It had no appeal for the average movie goer...

i agree
well im 16 so i liked it a lot
sadly i saw it at a 3 dollar theater
its underrated by audiences not critics
but hope it gets a fan base on dvd like many other movies

There's already a thread, but anyway...

It's a great movie, and critics liked it. And for good reason. It's a great movie! Pretty much anyone ages 14-35 (I'd say 35 is tops to get the referances) is going to get the full enjoyment out of this movie.
Why did it flop at the box office? Plenty of reasons...

1. Marketing- The marketing for this movie was terrible. No one seemed to know about it. Movies that rely almost solely on pre-existing fans (in the case of a movie based on a book. ie: this one) don't do well unless it's backed up, or is an extremely popular book. (ie Harry Potter). I rarely saw trailers on TV, and even then they didn't do a good job of expressing the movie's plot. Next...
2. Shyness- People don't want to spend money on a ticket to see a movie that is "unsafe". They would rather see a movie like Transformers 2, because they KNOW that they like seeing Mehan Fox's jugs and giant robots. They aren't going to spend the $7 or $10 or whatever and risk seeing a movie that might not be what they're used to.
3. People are stupid- People are stupid. Do I need to say more? Well I'm going to. People just will not go and see an indy movie like this. They just won't. It doesn't matter how good it is, without half naked women, explosions and a plot we've seen a thousand times, it's not gonna happen.

This is a movie that is honestly one of the best I've seen this year, and the most fun I've ever had going to see a movie. I went twice just for that reason. I will buy it on DVD, and try and get people to watch it. That's all I can do: tell people about it.

I really really wanted to see this movie... But the only theater that I could see it in is an hour away in an overpriced theater... So I haven't seen it yet. Hopefully it will move a lot closer some time soon. I did buy the Video Game for it on Xbox Live though, which I'm dominating. I just have one more character to level up and beat the game with. I'm also thinking about getting the comics. The original is always better than the movie in my opinion :p

To be fair the people in this forum is the target audience lol. That's why it did so bad in the box office. The target audience were people who love Comic Con and pretty hardcore gamers. And since most of the population isn't those people, theaters didn't want to take chances on it. They're stupid fault though. If my theater had it I would have gone so many times....

Also I'd like to agree with Zero on the bad casting. They should have had a better person to play Scott Pilgrim. From excerpts of the comic I've seen/read and from the game that I've played and beaten 4 times, Micheal Cera is nothing like this character. I think that may have scared some potential watchers away too. Micheal Cera always seem to be in sappier movies and stuff so people were like "eh looks good but I don't need another lovey dovey thing to watch." That might just be me though

no
actually this is the only movie with micheal cera that i actually liked his character
he really stepped it up from his previous acting roles

I never once said there was bad casting. Cera was perfect for the role. The ads, however, basically said "MICHAEL CERA IS NOW A SUPER VIDEOGAME HERO!" If you never read the comics and understood how Pilgrim = Cera essencially, this would SOUND like a really poorly cast movie. Cera is that awkward kid that Pilgrim was, and... yeah... he can do some pretty good action scenes. If you cannot understand that, I would not recommend you see anything more emotionally involving than a batman movie. As for the game, it was pretty dull. The game took no skill, and did not have that magic the movie did... IMO.

The movie was pretty epic; I saw it at the drive-in. It had great acting, amazing action sequences, and a kickass soundtrack. Really, I don't have any major complaints, although the script was kind of weak at times.

@Zero- Ah sorry, I read that wrong ^^; I was in a hurry and just skimmed it D: Anyways I personally liked the game. Its addictive, and although it took no skill, it was still really fun to play. Just because a game is easy doesn't mean its not fun.

Love this like mad even after a week of seeing it will always love it. Im younger than 15 but i got the references.

This actually made it to my top favorite comedies (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Spaceballs, School of Rock, some others). I laughed my head off. Good thing nobody was in the theater besides my crew, because I was laughing so hard. I'd see that movie again.
