Ruling Shadow Command SF

When I use Dusknoir from SF (1) When I use Dusknoir's pokemon power, it says that if i have over 7 cards in my hand (after drawing 2) to discard till i have 6 then put two damage counters on me.
Now let me see if Ive been playing this card correctly. When that happens I put 2 damage counters on Dusknoir. But what if I do Shadow Command and I draw two cards and i have less than 6 cards in my hand, does that mean I dont have to place 2 damage counters on Dusknoir? Thats how I've been playing. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Much Obliged.

So no matter what? You have to place 2 damage counters? I mean dont get me wrong, thats better for me. But is that a fact?

Yes. That's a fact. Read Dusknoir's Power. The first thing it says to do is draw 2 cards. So do that. Then, it asks you to discard cards from your hand until you have six. So, you would skip that step if it doesn't apply. Then, you put 2 damage counters on Dusknoir.

Each part of the Power is its own action. If it said, "If you discarded any cards, then place 2 damage counters on Dusknoir." then you would only take damage if you had to discard. Its like Lunatone GE, you can discard even if you don't have Solrock in play. Unless it is something like an "If _____ then _____." statement, you preform each effect/part of the Power.

Well the word that complicates things for me is "If ______. Then____" Which is to say that, only "if" ..."THEN" you know what I mean.

Wouldnt it state: Draw 2 cards, then put 2 damage counters on Dusknoir. Then discard...yadda yadda yadda.

But instead it says Draw 2 cards. IF you have 7 cards then discard..... THEN put 2 damage counters....

< almost to say that only "if" you have 7 cards then you discard and then and only "THEN" do you put 2 damage counters.

You see its all in the order and the specific wording. That's how i read it. Chronologically like that.

Note that I said "If _____ then _____." with no period between them. meaning that if you do this, then that happens. So, if it were to be the way you think it is, it would read something like this: "<Normal Power text>, draw 2 cards. If you have 7 or more in hand discard cards from your hand so you only have 6, then, if you discarded any cards, place 2 damage counters on Dusknoir." It would specifically tell you to place counters ONLY if you discarded if that was the case. And, since the discarding and damage placing... "clause" of the Power are seperate sentences they both happen regardless. If the discarding and the damage placing were in the same sentence then, depending on the wording, they might be influenced by each other.

KnivesMonroe, I've already told you the answer. Kronar has too. The answer is yes, you MUST place 2 damage counters on Dusknoir every time you use its Shadow Command Poke-Power.

To make what they all have said simple. Do whatever the card tells you to do and if it doesn't apply, like having 6 or less cards in your hand, then skip it. Continue with the next.

A=Draw 2 cards
B=Discard until you have 6 cards after drawing.
C=Put 2 damage counters on dusknoir.

You have to do all the steps above even if B doesn't apply{at the right conditions}. It's not a A>B>C thing and if B doesn't apply you can't do C. It's more like A+B+C. You have to do all.

Thou Shall Sleep, the question has been answered by several people already. Why post the answer again?
