Yes it can, like Manaphy this only blocks damage not damage counters.

It looks like this has been answered above! It seems this card will only have utility in a small amount of situations.

It quite literally says on the card that it can be used to block damage to none rule box pokemon

Manaphy is mostly used to protect basics before they evolve, which don't have rule boxes. Most of the time your opponent isn't able to snipe your two prizers so honestly it's very fair. My only complaint is that it isn't poffinable.

For some reason I was quite intrigued about the idea of a metagame without Manaphy and then they announce this. I think it having 80HP is gonna be a big stinker for it tho, more than the rule box thing

This helps those small basic and stage 1 pokemons. ex usually has anyway too much hp for bench attacks. very rare bench attacks does 160 or more to ohko those support exs like Squawkabilly ex, Fezandipiti ex etc.

Manaphy but not infuriating, nice. This will be a great replacement in single-prize decks. That said, I’m not sure how much play this will see in this format because the main concern is damage counter placement, not direct spread damage

I think this is mainly good for stage 2 decks, being good at protecting the basics before you are able to evolve. It does suck that it only works for Pokémon without a rule box, but hey- it’s better then nothing
