So with the Heracross and Pinsir Megastone giveaways ending, and the Shiny Gengar/Shiny Diancie starting in a few weeks, just thought I would give you all a heads up on what we as Gamestop Employees can and can not do when it comes to codes. This is going to be honest, but not every Gamestop employee will listen.
Things you should understand first:
First off, I do not speak for GameStop as a company. I am speaking on behalf on what our online handbook says to do for these distributions, and what not to do. If something in here makes you mad, it is not my fault, nor any other GameStop Employee. Understand that most of us are minimum wage workers who have sales quotas and do not appreciate being punching bags for the GameStop circlejerk.
What we are allowed to do:
We can give codes to anybody. EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT PREORDERED ORAS. This is the biggie, and the main point of making this thread. If an employee tells you this, he is lying. The main reason, we have quotas on preorders. Ask to speak to the STORE MANAGER. If you just say "manager", the Senior Game Advisor (to whom preorders still matter to) could claim to be the manager and still say you need to preorder. To SMs, preorders are less important to, and thus have less reason to lie to you. I am not going to lie to any of my customers.
We can give you a reasonable amount of codes. This is up to the discretion of the employee. We get a limited supply of codes, so by taking multiple you are only hurting people who also want the codes, because they may want some as well. Please be nice and share.
What we are not allowed to do:
Refuse to give you the code because you have not preordered ORAS. If an employee does this, talk to the manager. If the manager says "you need to preorder", that is against store policy. Consider going higher up if you feel like it, but remember that we are all just cheap retail employees trying to do our jobs.
Force you to preorder for any reason. If you don't want to preorder, don't. Get your code, tell them no thanks (because they WILL try pushing the preorder on you, which we are supposed to do for numbers reasons), and then leave.
Some Game Advisors (the lowest level) were taught that is what they are supposed to do, which is the Store Manager's fault, not the employee. Don't take it out on us, if an employee is rude to you just report them.
Also, don't lie about having it preordered already. We can easily see if someone has something preordered or not, it is a two button click on our computers. It isn't worth it and will only cause an argument. If you try getting your code and can't, there is really nothing you can do at that point. I am hoping other GameStop employees read this and understand that not everybody is going to preorder, thats not a reason to lie to your customers. And to the customers, I apologize if an employee lies to you or refuses you the code, it is on them, not GameStop as a whole.
The Gengar event runs from Oct 13-26, and the Diancie event runs from Oct 27-Nov 16.
Edit: People seem to be going on about "oh now I can get multiple codes". No. You can't. We can refuse to give you more codes. 2 is reasonable. 10 is not. It also really isn't cool, because we run out, and some people who haven't gotten any codes will not get them before you. Please at least respect your fellow pokefans.
Edit2: I am getting a lot of private messages of people begging me for codes. Please stop asking me. I am sorry that there is no gamestop is around you, it is in another country, you are banned from going into gamestops (yes I got someone who said that), I am not going to take a bunch of extra codes and send them to you all. I'm sorry, but I am giving the codes the store gives me to my customers.
