I know there's no way for me to make it to San Diego for Worlds, but I do think with what was going on in Japan that priority to recover from their most recent disaster should be taken first.

What do you guys think? Japan's World Qualifier's got Cancelled because of the 9.0 Earthquake/Tsunami/Nuclear Disaster that struck Japan and there won't be anyone from Japan this year that will be attending Worlds because of it.

so..maybe an American will actually win this year..and they can always Fly anyway and participate in the last chance qualifier

Its the WORLD championships, not the JAPAN championships. Not to sound harsh, but just because Japan can't make it doesn't mean all the people who worked hard this year should have it taken away from them.

You have a point, but Japan already had it taken away from them this year. It gives them a disadvantage as much as cancelling the whole event would be a disadvantage for everyone else outside of Japan. No matter how you slice it, it's a win-lose situation.

But what's the point of competing If Japan is unable to because of their most recent disaster? They would have to change the name of the event from Worlds to I dunno America vs. Europe or something. It just wouldn't be right...

Should we feel bad for playing Pokemon nowadays just because Japan is suffering? Why can't we enjoy ourselves? I'm not trying to sound like a heartless scumbag here but you get my point right?

how many of these threads are you gonna make? worlds wont be canceled. just because one body cant join does that mean that everyone cant have it no...that is just stupid.

It's not wrong to play Pokemon because of a tsunami in Japan. None of us feel bad about dressing up as knights and fighting with swords when we were little, and yet thousands upon thousands died in mideavel times. Playing Pokemon it fine, and they aren't offended by it and we're not helping by not playing. In fact, we better keep playing and buying their merchandise to help them pay for the damage. They'll have Worlds because the Japanese can choose to come if they want. No one is stopping them, though we'll have less competition, that's for sure.

I belive that worlds 2011 should not be cancelled. everyone in japan who has earned an invite should get a free travel award for that person and there family. (not being rude in any way but if it offends anyone or sounds rude im sorry) (personly if I were rich I would buy a bunch of helicopters and get everyone out of japan and find them somewhere to stay in america) Also its not wrong to play pokemon here because if anything that only helps them. (like pikachutofu said)

We don't... really have anything to do with Japan. If Worlds was in Japan, there would be no question that it should be cancelled. But, it's on our shores, and we may as well still have it, since we can't do anything about Japan. It kinda sucks for the Japanese players, but if their families are fine, and they feel they can come, they can.

Give the top Japanese players the travel award, bring their top rated to San Diego, then we can battle it out with everyone there to determine who is the best.

Why would Worlds be cancelled? It's not as though canceling it would HELP anyone. We shouldn't disadvantage everyone just to make them even with players in Japan. Keeping Worlds going hurts no one.

Well in this situation I would respect Japan's decision whether or not to hold Worlds this year which would lead to another thing, they might skip Rotations completely this year because the only players being able to attend the event would be everyone else outside of Japan except for Japanese players themselves.

Keeping Worlds going would only hurt the playerbase in Japan, it really is unfortunate what they are going through right now. A devastating 9.0 Earthquake followed by a Tsunami to a Nuclear Power Plant blowing up costing their country around $300+ Billion (try translating that in yen) in repairs and they still haven't fully recovered from the Kobe Earthquake of 1995 which compared to the recent Quake of 3/11 it wasn't nearly as devastating.

Stop harking on Worlds is pretty much set up already due to the venue being booked prior to the end of last years world championship, also I find it quite upsetting that you underestimate the japanese so strongly yes it was devastating but guess what the country still goes on, its not like they've been reverted to a feudal state.

Theres still time for them to sort out a new National qualifier, and if they can't do it then they'll just have to miss a year which wont hurt the player base it'll just make there more hardcore gamers more anxious for next year to show that there not out of the running

I am not saying that the Disaster in Japan was good, but...

As the Jap are playing HGSS-on and we play MD-on, it would be difficult in World to decide, as taking out sets or giving some back are not really fair for those people. If the Jap can t play, the World will be MD-on, which will be less fight.

And I mean, this could have happened anywhere (talking about the desaster) so live with it.

^ he is right

Japan just plays a format ahead because they get new sets sooner but they switch back to luxchomp-on when they come to worlds
