DPPt/HGSS Solo Pokemon Runs

I was wondering if anyone has played through any of the 1st/2nd/3rd Gen games doing a solo run (Using one Pokemon throughout the entire game) recently. I did a Sapphire one with Swampert (too easy) a few weeks ago. Right now, I'm starting a Gold one. I'm planning on using Sentret/Furret.

Tell about your Solo Runs!

EDIT: I'll update this with my current Solo Run progress. I haven't caught my solo run Pokemon yet, but I will ASAP.

Team: Furret :L56 - ThunderPunch/Surf/Strength/Shadow Ball
Johto Gyms Beaten: 8/8
E4 Beaten: Yes
Kanto Gyms Beaten: 0/8
Rival Battles Beaten: 2/7
Current Objective: Reach Olivine City!

I bought Silver after I bought Gold so it was just a secondary game for me, another masterball, version exclusives, ect. So I figured I wouldn't waste time raising another team, and I quickly realized I could decimate all the gyms and the Elite 4 just using Feraligator, and I totally did! He was like level 67 when I finished Johto, and I think I got him to 100 or close to 100 by the time I got to Ash. He had Surf, Ice Beam, Earthquake and Crunch.

I'll admit though that I cheated a teeny tiny bit. I used the GSC trainer called "monster brain" to change his Bite move to Crunch since he didn't normally learn Crunch in GSC. But that's it, no stat or level hacking, and I taught him the other moves through TMs/HM when I obtined them in game.

Solo runs are a fun idea, now I want to go through the original Red with just Hypno. I can't believe I never thought of this before!

Well, Crunch was probably a huge help compared to Bite. But still, you used one Pokemon, so good job! A Hypno run would be interesting, but good luck getting it early in the game.

Hmm that's true...I only have one GB now so I'd have to go through the first 2 gyms without him. I guess it wouldn't be a full solo run then :(

Would it be counted as a solo run if I only used others so I could use items in case my main fainted?

That's a valid question. I'd say yes, as most solo runs include an HM Slave.

Well, you can use HM Slaves, but I never use them in Gym Battles/E4/any place I don't need the HM so that it's like I have 1 Pokemon.

Right, that's how it works.

Oh, there's a thread for this. Well.

I've done a few solo runs:

Blue (Charmander)
Silver (Chikorita)
Ruby (Beautifly)
HeartGold (Chikorita)

For clarification, for my B/S/HG playthroughs, I am not referring to the evolved forms. If I did, I would have said Charizard and Meganium.

I don't suppose there is a universal list of rules for solo runs, but I am of the opinion that switching out is not allowed at all. If at any time you are using a pokemon in a Single Battle that is not your chosen Pokemon, you have failed. This is why I keep all my HM slaves dead, so they can't join the fight. For 2v2 fights, I have my chosen Pokemon kill off my teammate(s) before I even touch the other team.

Doing this also adds another layer of difficulty; you can no longer switch to remove the effects of those annoying Sand-Attacks, Growls, or Leers.

The only time I was unable to do this was in the tag battle with Lance (and later, Silver) in HeartGold. Their Pokemon were too strong for poor little Chikorita to take out all by himself :<

I did a solo run on Ruby with Sceptile, man was that hard.

And one on Soulsilver with Feraligatr, that one was extremely easy.

Lost ftw

I did one LeafGreen, Venusaur. Was surprisingly easy, considering that lots of Pokemon resist Grass Moves, and Grass is weak to many types.

Lost ftl.

I used a Ferlaigatr level 70+ to defeat the Elite Four. My other Pokemon, Sudowoodo lvl 25 and the Red Gyarados lvl 35. I defeated the Elite Four using just Feraligatr and it's ferocious Surf attack. That is with the help of Elixirs and Ethers of course.

When I wa younger I played the entire Pokemon Red game just with my Charizard. By the time I beat the Elite Four Chrizard was at lvl 92!

i never Did a full solo run but I did beat the gold elite four with just aerodactyl movepool
was wing attack better accuracy then fly, EQ, .Ancient power and hyper beam aerodactyl was at lvl 57 or was kind of easy

I'm currently doing a only Mudkip Emerald solo run.
soft resetted for adamant nature and decent iv.
Start was pretty easy. it got harder at 3th gym but mud sport saved me.
Just defeated 4th gym.
Mudkip:kip
lvl: 50
Adamant Nature
Ability: Torrent
Item: Everstone
Moves:
Water gun
Strength
Mud-slap
Hydro Pump

Using only a nincada and poochyena as hm slave.
Haven't seen someone do a only mudkip run so far and it just seemed fun
Gonna let you know when i beet E4.
