If you were going through a rough time after the end of a relationship, would there be any particular songs you would listen to so you would be able to let loose your emotions?

I can only think of ONE perfect song. "Snuff" by Slipknot.

Moderator Note: Use this thread for songs that you would listen to in special occasions. You may introduce a new topic once in a while. Remember, don't just post a song, try to explain why you chose it. Show the others what is it that draws you in a song.

This is the first that comes to me for the nostalgic feeling. "Come Back Song" by Darius Rucker.
However, when going through a tough time in a relationship (or, actually, just life in general), I always like listening to "This", also by Darius Rucker.

RE: Break Up songs

Look up 'Lily Allen'. If you want a break up song 'Lily Allen - Smile'.
Oh, and swear warning if you do look it up.

RE: Break Up songs

I'm sure I could find a ton if I went through my music library, but the one that pops into my head immediately is "November Rain" by Guns N Roses. I'm not a huge GnR fan, but this song... is pretty much a musical masterpiece. It's about unrequited love, and it's the song that wraps up my relationship with my college girlfriend. She dumped me in November (years ago), and, as it turns out, it was on a cold and rainy day. How fitting.

"Nothin' lasts forever / And we both know hearts can change ... / So if you want to love me / Then darlin' don't refrain / Or I'll just end up walkin' / In the cold November rain"

RE: Break Up songs

PsychedelicBreakfast hit the nail on the head. November Rain is possibly the best song for a break up. The very way Axl sings it hits your very being.
But because it's already taken, I'll go with "Diamonds and Rust". Joan Baez or Judas Priest, it doesn't matter. It still is a nostalgic song, a song that reflects your sorrow.
Or, alternatively, you could choose to not hear to anything specific at all.

RE: Break Up songs

I had a really hard break-up with my last ex (even though it was a mutual break up, and more on my side if anything). We had been living together for a few years, were engaged, and had already started planning our wedding, so the break-up was very life-changing. But.... I don't think I listened to a single "break up" song. I didn't change my music habits at all, which was basically just not listening to much music at all, except for the occasional Homestuck song while cleaning, and an old iPod full of favourites to listen to while on a plane. Just not in my nature, I guess, though I've never been much of a music person in general.

So, I guess my nomination of break-up song is nothing.

Or, if you think my post could use more depression, my nomination of break-up song is the uncomfortable void that echoes through your ears as you contemplate your own mortality in the silence of a darkened abyss.

RE: Break Up songs

I've only had one girlfriend and despite she was the one that ended the relationship, I didn't care about that. My only reason for not breaking up was sloth so I didn't have any "break up songs".
That said, if someone was to hate their former girlfriend or the break up (also suited for enemies), my advice is this:

PS: for a "break up song" perhaps this

RE: Break Up songs

Hiya, I separated from my lady of five years about four months. I have terrible coping skills, usually resorting to self harm (specifically cutting my wrist) and fall into my own misery. Music tends to help me, even songs that sound terribly sad, and a good cry here and there.

RE: Break Up songs

These would probably be the kind of songs I might listen to after the end of a relationship. Ironically they could all be seen as talking about relationships, but I feel like each one of them has the power to let you feel something completely the opposite of whatever you might feel at the end of one (assuming it was a tough/emotional breakup). And that's a good thing in my opinion.

Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYFt1P6C6ng
Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DksSPZTZES0
Jackson 5 - I Want You Back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3Q80mk7bxE

dmaster out.

RE: Break Up songs

This is my epitome of break up songs. So much pain in his voice.

RE: Break Up songs

I almost posted the same song Jay but decided to pick different ones. My favorite version of Hallelujah is by Jeff Buckley.

A lot of 80's/90's rock, especially grunge, is really great after break ups. My usual emotion is hate or anger, so the music really speaks to my mood.

God bless Seattle.

RE: Break Up songs

You need this voice in your life if you don't already and it's a perfect break-up song.

RE: Break Up songs

Just discovered this.

So freaking beautiful. This song is definitely not for those trying to get over a break-up...rather to grieve.

RE: Break Up songs

Rejection is never easy. Time will help. I hope all of you will be fortunate enough to find that person you want to spend the rest of your life with. You just never know where you will meet them at.

This song is literally called "Break up", from the Japanese soundtrack of Digimon Zero Two.

Gets me in a fairly better move after a breakup, ironically.

Songs For Your Funeral?

If you could play any songs at your funeral, what would they be?

I have one right off the bat from Final Fantasy VII.

Yes, Aerith's theme.

Very suitable for a funeral for a nerd like me.

Also... Snuff, by Slipknot, maybe...

RE: Songs For Your Funeral?

Yuki no Hana, the original by Mika Nakashima
or
My Immortal by Evanescence

I just like them. And they fit image of funeral, maybe.

RE: Songs For Your Funeral?

My favourite music of all times and from my favorite series of videogames.
From Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, I present to you - "Requiem for the Gods":

Not only is special but I want to make it memorable!

My reasoning...well, I don't want people to be (that) happy at my funeral. I want them to remember me, talk about and perhaps have a few laughs but when it's time for burying me I want a heavy mood, real dark, one to bring those tears out. Since it's also my favorite music and it has a classical tone to it (I like harpsichord and classical music) then better yet. It's from a game - like I've said, my favorite - and I'm a gamer so even one more reason to it.
