Ruling Stantler vs. Energy search or similar trainer

Hi.

An energy search trainer card (or similar) gets you some energy and then goes away without filling your bench or giving your opponent a prize card like Stantler... which do you think is better?

Actually.. Some people like giving away stantler as a prize because decks like those have scramble energy.. for energy you can try castaway(CG) mr stone project (DF) or roseanne's reserch (SW) hope i have been any help

Stantler searches for Supporters, not energy...it can search for energy searchers (Stones & Roseannes)...

Play both, Stantler for set-up; and you need energy...maybe just Roseanne's though, you can get it with Stantler

I don't see how you can compare them

Or just pack a couple of scramble so that stantler being KOed will have some use use later on and maybe 1 stone's wont be bad.. especially if you run either a low energy card deck or a discard deck

...O'migosh, yes I meant Smeargle not Stantler. Sorry about the confusion and thanks for all the other tips.

So then.. Smeargle is the superior choice.. Not only does it fetch energys If your opponent has a strong bench it can copy it and give it back to the opponent

Smeargle is awesome. Color Pick is great and as for Trace, well, let's just say that after a few sucessful coin flips, I've dubbed him Smeargle the Destructor.

I almost never need 3 extra Energy at startup, so I think Smeargle is a pretty useless starter overall. HOWEVER, if you aren't planning to rain down many supporters and neither to shuffle your hand back in your deck a few times, a Smeargle start might supply you with Energies for the whole game. Only problem is setup, cards that help get out Pokes/Evolutions are infinitely better since you can attack faster while powering up Benched Pokes a bit as well. Remember, you can have a fully powered bench if you like, but it is not at all necessary. As long as you can keep attacking, you'll be fine.

Thanks Stealth Angel, thats good advice. What starter would you recommend to help get out Pokes/Evolutions? ... Also would you please take a look at the development of my Electivire deck ? The link goes to a thread I started about it in the DeckGarage. If you have any more ideas about how to manage energy throughout the match with energy hungry Electivire and Ampharos I would appreciate it.
