Studio Ghibli

RE: Official Studio Ghibli Thread

It differs quite a lot. I can like a good comedy, action, adventure, horror, thriller. It all depends on the story and characters for me. I don't like the mind messing movies. I like a good plot and love happy endings (although the touching sad moments I can cope with just costs a few tears).

Examples of some anime I like:
Fairy Tail, Inuyasha, Generator Rex, Avatar (The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra), Kiba, Pokémon, Death Note, Galactik Football, Vampire Knight, Shaman King, Huntik, Megaman, Medabots, Digimon, D. Gray-man, Demon King Daimao, Gundam Wing, 07-Ghost, American Dragon, Ben 10, Dragonball Z, X-men, Spiderman, Team Galaxy, Batman, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Fate/Stay Night, Soul Eater, and Hataraku Maou-sama.

I also really enjoy Marvel movies or other kind of action movies with super powers! It's not a requirement, though. There are a lot of regular comedy movies I love.

Well I would say a lot of them are Animated not Anime, but I like a lot of them haha. We have similar tastes, I also love Superhero films as well.

I would say that Princess Mononoke you'd like that's action, Nausicaa is an action film. A lot of Ghibli, is sweet romantic films.

Try the ones that have the best reviews, because they are indeed the best. Choose any from the list I said.

We got From Up On Poppy Hill on DVD. It's fantastic.

It is a fantastic film, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Anyone play Ni No Kuni for the playstation3 yet? I just started it not to long ago and it's completely endearing!

Ni No Kuni is /amazing/! Absolutely love the game, filled with so much charm. The only minor complaint I have about the game is that spells (and attacks) take up so much MP and don't do that much damage in comparison to some familiars basic attacks that it seems almost pointless.

The thing that made me choke up was just the very beginning and it was like nooooo. But as far as films go I've seen all of the ghibli works and I'm actually in process to get a tattoo of tororo on my calf and the little girl on the other, like the scene at the stop!

I have started playing, just hatched that Forest/Tree whatever it is familiar.

Seeing The Wind Rises Monday can't wait :)

Studio Ghibli is shutting down production. There were rumors earlier on about the closure, but Toshio Suzuki has just announced the studio closing the curtains on future production.

The studio will now focus on their trademarks while continuing to receive revenue from their past movies.

That wasn't true, it's only temporary closing just for a spring clean style thing. Just people floating rumours about it being shut down.

Stories have been updated now thanks to better translation of the comments.

Update: A better translation of Suzuki’s comments have been published by AnimeNewsNetwork (via /Film) and offer a little more detail on their current plans. “On what to do with Studio Ghibli’s future, it is by no means impossible to keep producing [movies] forever,” he said. “However, we will take a brief pause to consider where to go from here.”

Let us take a moment to extend our thanks to the people who can actually read Japanese.

Mononoke-hime is also pretty good. But quite hardcore in places, since it's got quite a dark theme. It's still one of my favourites although I'm not huge on Ghibli overall.

Arietty is the other one I like. Saw it at uni in a JapSoc screening and it was great. Very cute :D.

Unfortunately, when the story first broke it was translated wrong haha, it worried a lot of people.

Arrietty is a very good film :)

I only saw The Cat Returns with Subs, Howl's Moving Castle w/o subs in Japan and saw a review of Ponyo on TGWTG.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind doesn't have a TV show, but it does have a manga that's 6 (I think? Maybe 5) volumes long that goes deeper into the story and world setting and such.
