News 'Sun and Moon Strengthening Expansion Pack'

After the others this oricorio is a little disappointing, it's just professors letter, but on your bench. I guess it can be searched with nest ball and level ball, but still.
Nest Ball would be a bad idea since you have to play it from the hand to get the ability. Still, level ball!

I feel like we can just run a deck with 4 Fomantis and 2/3 Lurantis GX with however many of the regular Lurantis, taking advantage of recycling them with Revitalizer and putting the needed forms into play. Shiinotic of course is a huge boon too. Let's not forget that Lurantis can boost up Bees as well.

Mudsdale doesn't seem too bad. Rather beefy for a non-GX Stage 1 and has some decent attacks and Strong Energy access.

DID WE HONESTLY JUST BUFF YVELTAL AGAIN WITH THAT STADIUM?

AS IF HE WASN'T ALREADY THE BDIF, WE NEEDED MORE SUPPORT FOR HIM.

I think Oricorio will be pretty useful for Mega Rayquaza builds actually. Early game it means you can search it, place it down and then Sycamore meaning you have energy in the discard pile to Mega Turbo in your next hand, and it gives you the extra 30 damage.

If Lurantis was to be paired with the Volcarona from STS would it get a double boost? Probably just wishful thinking but that would be an interesting deck.

I'm honestly disappointed in how many of you are writing off Oricorio so quickly. You literally grab 2 Basic Energy for free, which is a huge deal for decks like Volcanion. Also, 90 HP makes it a Level Ball Target, which is also noteworthy.

I obviously like Lunartis a lot as well, but the lack of enthusiasm for Oricorio is saddening.

That's true, I forgot that I've seen some Volcanion decks run professors letter, and this is a much better alternative if you have the bench space. I'm still not totally sold on it, but you're right, this is pretty good for a couple decks.

If it's worded the same as Parallel City it shouldn't as if I'm right it only checks each Pokemon to see if they "are a grass or fire type" once

LURANTIS I NEEED YOU

finally something to boost Mega Sceptile's low damage output

Also Oricorio can be useful for Mega Sceptile as well.

Why wouldn't you just play Professor's Letter? No one even plays that.
People do play Professor's Letter, though...
Also, you play it because it's easily searchable. It's not for every deck, but immediately writing it off as a "bad card" is a mistake and one that should be reconsidered as a general.

In Volcanion? I thought the initial comment was about its use in Volcanion (which needs its bench space and doesn't play Level Ball).

You're correct though, the card isn't useless, it's just something I can't see a lot of decks using in the current meta.

OH, no that was more or less an "off the top of my head potential example" kind of thing. I probably would shift it more towards decks that need fixing than Volcanion, though I could see it played in an Octillery variant (more budget-friendly) with Level Balls.

That said, thinking on it, this card would be rather nice to have in something silly like Ho-oh EX. You can Level Ball for both it and Smeargle, grab whatever Basic Energy you need, then load up Ho-ohs like there's no tomorrow. I may build that on PTCGO for giggles once SM1 drops.

MY SUPER EVALUATIONS!
  • "Basic" Lurantis - So awesome! The ability will help Volc, Incineroar, Yanmega, Lurantis himself, name a few.
  • Mudbray/Mudsdale - Normal. That's it. Trivia: 100,000 Horsepower is High Horsepower in the Pokemon Games. Snorlax, Mudsdale, and Golurk learn that move.
  • Psychic Oricorio - Good for Volcanion decks and Greninja BREAK, Period.
  • Rockruff - since the original one was confirmed as a checklane promo, along with Pikipek from Lycanroc Deck. Can we see this card in English soon, along with Turtonator?
  • Enhanced Hammer - still alive in Standard. Maybe SM2 will release because SM3 was the rotation set mark.
  • Energy Recycler - Same on this one. Still alive in standard. (The original one was from Ancient Origins)
  • Altar of the Moone - Good for Yveltal and Mewtwo, the decks who had Garbage in their deck list.
Oricorio is also good in Golduck from Sun and Moon Base Set

I see hula bird being REALLY useful for Despair Ray Gardevoir. Not only are you getting energy to your hand but you can also discard it for say an Ultra Ball to get set up for a Mega Turbo. Then you offer it for damage and put it back in with Super Rod/Karen and you're ready to have another way to get energy.

If it was just one energy maybe not as exciting but two is quite a bargain.

I do like that Lurantis supports multiple types with Sunny Day as that might encourage using multitype decks which is a good thing..

Wow, that's a REALLY good finding, especially since the deck can also play Hawlucha/Ratata for more Level Ball targets. Nicely done!

Golduck??! It only deal 120 if you discard 2-on-site
Which really isn't all that bad considering Oricorio is a +1. Plus, I'm certain Golduck will play things like Choice Band and Fisherman, so being able to grab extra Energy to discard for what is essentially a card that probably should be ran in that deck is never a bad thing (Hint: Level Ball).

Love Altar of the Moone. Cool name, great art, and I can't wait to put it in Yveltal/Garbodor. Lurantis could be pretty good in a format without Garb + no tool removal, but as it is, I'm not sure it will see much play.

So Grass and Fire pokemon do 20 more damage with Sunny Day. What if the pokemon was both Fire and Grass type - like the Volcorona from Steam Siege? Would it add up to 40 damage? :D

(Okay, It probably wouldn't. I'm just being goofy!)

Oh my... That's either gonna be really good, or just be in some fun decks at Leagues.
