Haha! That's wild. I want to go, but my parents would never take me. I've been shooting for an original Charizard for a while.
Was this done by Excell Marketing? They're the guys responsible for selling really old sets. (I wouldn't blame them. People who don't play the TCG wouldn't be aware of old sets getting phased out. I don't think Yu-Gi-Oh! does this. Then they wonder why no one seems to buy those EX Legend Maker packs.)
The Kay•Bee Toys I've visited often have booster packs spanning the entire history of the Pokémon TCG. The old sets are typically dirt cheap. I think of recent days (as in the past year), the oldest set I ran across was Fossil.
I haven't seen Base Set sold anywhere in a while, however.

Not all that odd. I can get a 1st edition base set box if I wanted to, there's still a lot of 'em.
I went to Florida one time and came across a first edition base set pack in a flea market, going for $3.00 or something ridiculous.
But no Charizard for me... :[
I also found two 1st edition Team Rocket packs in a Target store (and got a shiny Golbat I think). Man you guys are so lucky to have this kind of stuff.

At my target this has been happening for quite some time! I have found base and jungle theme decks on occasion!
I already have Charizard, but I think I will shoot for another. This is a good chance for the new generation of PTCG players to expand their collection back to the old days rather than the collections I usually see which are srictly DF on.
My League Leader/Shop keeper still has a bunch of really old cards/starter decks... not a good thing, though, he had to annoy us a lot of times with draft tournaments where he each gave us the starter deck, and a bunch of old boosters, or stuff like 3 Team Rocket boosters and 3 TRR boosters (right after they got rotated ).

i have the holographic charizard from the base set. i remember when i was like 8 and i opened a pack on my birthday and it was in there. i was so happy because earliar that week i went to a card shop and they were selling the charizard for $50.
the only card i need from the base set is venusaur. if i got that, the base set would be my first complete set.

When I worked at Wal-Mart a couple years back I found a few Fossil Boosters tucked away behind some Baseball cards.

My target had in store around 30 packs of first edition base set packs, and i bought 10 packs. I got me a 1st edition charizard =]

It'll be great if I can convince my prents to take me, but I doubt I can. I would love to get some old packs again. The Toys R Us in Utah used to carry boxes with old boosters in them, but I haven't seen them since I moved to Kentucky.
Hmm, hopefully RedShark can get fixed for the people who still can't get it.
Target always sells old PTCG back when they were owned by the Wizards of the Coast. I think I saw a Jungle deck a long time ago. I've never seen Base Set Decks/Packs, but it would'nt be suprising at Target. I'll probably ask my mom to pick some up, when she comes home. I love seeing the old cards.
