well as the game releases on sunday in the US i thought discussion should start. i havent played the first game but it was recommended to me by a friend. now im getting this one and it looks amazing. here are some discussion questions about it:

What are you most excited about in it?
Why did you decide to get the first one?
Did you like the first one?

What are you most excited about in it? The blimp yoshi
Why did you decide to get the first one?N/A
Did you like the first one?N/A

I loved the first one, but never finished. I never really get into those games. The game itself is to simple and adventurey, so I dont plan on buying the second one.

I'm so excited about the new levels! I like the use of Yoshi, but I don't think it's gonna be as good as the first. I got the first because I felt it was going to be the new "Super Mario 64" for Wii, and to me, it pretty much was. Great game.

This game very exciting to me and hopefully I'll get it after I beat the first one. I just got the first one a few months ago and haven't quite finished it yet. I really like that you can use Yoshi in the Super Mario Galaxy 2. I think that was a nice feature added. I really liked the first Super Mario Galaxy its really fun and addicting.

IGN gave it a 10/10, so based on mostly that factor, I'll be getting it on Tuesday along with Blur. I did play the first one and thought it was enjoyable, despite me not liking 64 (Sunshine fan right here).

I am excited about the collectible coins in each level. Mario games don't have that "collect-a-thon" vibe that games like Sunshine had anymore (the star coins in NSMBW were just way too easy to find).

SMG is NOT simple. It actually has puzzles... more so in the 2nd one. As for adventurey, the hub world is less wide-open and more to-the-point. It is set up more like SMB3 where there's a map screen for worlds.

As for me, I'd buy it... but I already have a reviewer's copy. Great trip and worth doing again. Definetly deserving of the 10/10 from IGN.

Some levels in Super Mario Galaxy were really difficult and it took me a while to actually figure out a strategy to actually pass that level. I kept trying over and over and sometimes didn't get passed the level. Though eventually I passed that level after about 1,000,000 tries.

^I won a local contest. An actual reviewer got the game, did the review, and ran a contest.

Would you guys recommend me getting it even though I haven't played teh first one? Does it matter that much and really follow much of a story? I have played and watched some tidbits...

I still have to wait more than half a month before I'll be able to buy it, and that's right in the middle of my exam period ._.

There was almost no story in the 1st one, and the little story there was (spoiler alert: Bowser kidnaps Peach!) really wasn't that important (at all). Don't worry, this is a Mario game.

That being said, you should totally get the 1st one anyway, great game.

I guess that makes enough sense. If Mario & Lugi Partners in Time made perfect sense without playing Superstar Saga until later than this should be fine. (Then again it's Bowser's Inside Story that really followed SS more).

Mario RPGs =/= the main Mario games.
The main Mario games HAVE. NO. STORY. Like, at all. (If you count Bowser kidnapping Peach as a story, you're just wrong, end of story)
SMG was a minor exception in that it had some storybook concerning Rosalina's origins, but I honestly doubt that many people actually read the whole thing, and it had like no impact on the game whatsoever. Mario games are not story-games, they're just fun ;)

That's pretty much what I was saying, the RPGs are as close to having a story that a Mario game will get.

Think about it this way: 1st game was Game of the Year when it came out. It has stayed in the top 10 games for wii since then. This one... is 10k times better. That's saying ALOT.

Also Tom, thanks for ruining the plot of this game for everyone. You are indeed a heartless person. That'd be like telling everyone that their player collects 8/16 badges and then defeats the champion in Pokemon, telling everyone that Yugi's name is Atemn, or telling everyone that snape kills dumbledore. Horrible person you are Tom

Dude, I said spoiler alert :(
Also, I don't want anyone, ever, to have fun with these games, because, you know, the storyline is like the only reason you'd ever play this game, ever.

On a side note, I'm actually (finally) finishing Super Luigi Galaxy on SMG1 (I figured I'd never do it when 2 finally comes out, so I might as well do it now).

I hope you're not getting my hopes up to much, but if it's (just?) more of the same, I'll be more than happy.

Well i am excited about the games, about the story i read that they do that so Mario can go to any type of adventure, i have the first one and i finished i have like 80 stars, oh no the game is just 3 days away from my exam period, and i have a rule of not playing a lot of time videogames then, well i do not play wii during weekdays
1I bought the first one because i like mario games, and that one looked interesting or like some like to say out of this world
2The thing i am the most excited is Yoshi
I am happy because finally we are not going to read that there where levels that were not in Super Mario Galaxy because those are in Super Mario Galaxy 2

After you get 120 stars, you get to play the game all over again with Luigi (who's faster and jumps higher but apparently wears soap instead of shoes). After that you get some other stuff, but I still haven't finished the Luigi part of the game (haven't had much time), so I have no idea what...
