Surprisingly works...Chandelure/Bisharp

Hello all, this was the first deck I built when getting back into the card game after a long layover. I've tried a ton of different ideas, but went back to this and it works really well surprisingly. It took a hit after Sp. Dark rotated out, but here's the list:

Pokemon (20)
4/1/4 Chandelure (Cursed Shadow; Litwick is CFF)
4/4 Bisharp (Finishing Blow)
3 Darkrai EX

Energy (8)
8 {D}

Supporters (8)
4 N
4 Juniper

Trainers (24)
4 Catcher
4 Rare Candy
4 Pokemon Communication
3 Switch
3 Dark Patch
3 Level Ball
2 Random Receiver
1 Computer Search

Basic strategy is to get 1 damage counter on the opponent's Pokemon (at least) to activate Bisharp's Finishing Blow and hit 70 for 1 energy. With Juniper and N, I swarm Chandelure and Bisharps pretty quickly (T2-3 I have 1 of each).

Surprisingly, this has worked out pretty well. Bisharp mixes with Chandelure nicely b/c of both attacks. The obvious downfall is I'm weak to the 2 biggest types in the format - Dark and Fighting. But I'm rarely giving up 2 prizes, while still doing big enough damage at a cheap cost. Still, I expect to see a lot of Landorus at Cities...

I'm thinking I need to put in Plus Power and/or Dark Claw.

I have fun with this deck, and am thinking of playing this or another Chandelure variant I have at Cities. Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This is a really neat idea (but still, 80 damage isn't really much to boast in this format). Is Darkrai for offense, or just for free retreat? Because if you're not attacking with it, you really don't need Dark Patch. You don't have Ultra Ball to abuse the Dark Patch engine anyway.

Thank you! I typically don't use Darkrai unless I have to. The idea is to get going as quickly as possible, b/c as you mentioned, 80 isn't a whole lot of damage.

Actually, my Dark Patch engine is Bisharp/Chandelure KOs haha. I debated between Ultra Ball and Level Ball, but Level Ball is much easier to swarm Bisharps than Ultra Ball.

Dark Patch is hit or miss though for me. Sometimes it's critical so I can use Darkrai, but other times it's completely useless. It is my first candidate to be taken out though, for something like Tool Scrapper, or Plus Power, etc.

What if I took out Chandelure and put in Groudon? Sort of the same effect...I don't like that I have to attack with Groudon to spread the damage, but it might be easier to setup. That'll be my next test.

Or Registeel (or Minum, for that matter). It would probably be more consistent if you did something like that, but Chandelure is cool because it's an Ability instead of an attack. It's like a reusable triple Plus Power, but you would almost have to burn a Switch to use it. If you did switch over to something that is a Basic and spreads with an attack, I would think Registeel would be your best bet because you wouldn't have to add a completely different energy type.

Oh yeah, "Moar Supporters!" If you take out the Stage 2, you probably won't need 4 Communication, so there's what you would take out.

I threw together a list last night with Groudon. I like the idea of Registeel though (thought hard about Minun...but he's too risky...I'm already risking enough with Pawniard), especially since Groudon's weakness to Water will play a role at cities. But I took out Chandelure and that opened up 17 spots! Because I took out Communication and Rare Candy on top of that. I actually didn't know what to do with all of the extra space, haha.

Thanks for your help. I'm gonna keep testing it.

A few thoughts/comments:

-1 Chandelure,
-1 Bisharp,
+1 Super Rod. Imho, I believe 3 Bisharps and 3 Chandelures should be sufficient and you'll need the card recovery in some games.

-4 Pokémon Communication,
+4 Ultra Balls.
The UBs are better suited to help "thin out" your deck (to more easily get to your "meager" 8 energy faster) while getting D energy into your discard pile for subsequent Dark Patch usage.

-1 Pokémon Catcher. You can easily afford to drop 1 of these given Cursed Shadow (of 1st Chandelure), Dark Cloaking to promote a 2nd Chandelure in order to Curse Shadow a 2nd time and Night Spear's splash damage.

-1 Switch. You can easily afford to drop 1 of these given, Dark Cloak.

-1 N,
-2 Professor Juniper,
+2 Cheren,
+3 Bianca. Imho, Biancas are a better card draw Supporter when you use Ultra Balls.

+1 D energy. (or a Cilan)

-1 Random Receiver,
+1 Skyla. (or a D energy)

Hope these comments help.

Btw, did you ever think about adding a 1-0-1 Dusknoir line?

I'm running the Iron Head pawniard, but thought about switching to the metal version just to avoid getting donked from landorus.

I never thought about Dusknoir. I don't know if I'm doing enough damage as it is, and I think Dusknoir might take away from my speed. I'll try the UBs though. I like Communication b/c I can exchange something like a Chandelure for a basic pokemon, and then Juniper or something. But you're right, I currently don't have a Dark Patch engine other than the KOs I sustain.

I don't need 4 switch but they definitely come in handy for obvious reasons. Bisharp actually plays well with this as I'll use his Night Slash attack on occassions. Thank you everyone for the advice!

Switching to Metal is probably a good plan, considering Landorus EX is one of the most hyped cards from Boundaries Crossed.
