d00d, I kno, rite? As Wailmer Man said, I think it would change the world for the better, but it can't happen so in all honesty there's no reason to discuss it IMO.

agreed.

LAWKD.

Man, I wonder if mods get to see a lock button next to all the threads.

ok, I will try to prevent a lock because of all the spam here:

I'll change the topic to this:

Do you think that technology is bad for our survival? Will our future be weaker because of our care for the weak?

Technology, no. Improved technology can only help us. Caring for the weak, I would say it would weaken our future, but it doesn't matter because caring for people is the right thing to do.

IDK but I'm liking it. But yeah, really. Technology won't hurt us. Unless we do some stupid Terminator-y thing. [/addingtothediscussiononlytoavoidgettingbanned]

Technology could turn on us, IF we give them the ability to learn on their own. If they can learn, they can most likely learn more than us in a matter of minutes.

It would be perfect, in the sense that we would evolve as a society more. Our living standards would be increased. No one would worry about anything because they have no feeling.

I just wanted to see how this topic does, if it doesn't get like 15 posts by today I'll probably delete it altogether.

It most certainly would not be perfect, because we wouldn't be humans anymore. We'd be just like the machines you described in your next post; lifeless, but smart.

I feel as though these "intellectual stimulating" topics are going downhill, both mentally and emotionally. If anyone in the world thinks they can get rid of their emotions without a problem, I urge them to do so. But not all of us do, because we're not all emo.

I'd say in order to get rid of emotions, we'd have to all get together and agree to live an a society like the one in The Giver (Lois Lowry), but different.

When I saw this topic I instantly thought of that book.

Emotions are vital to the human society. They make us who we are, if we had no emotions there would be nothing pushing us do do what was right, there would be no love, happyness, and sorrow when needed. (Sometimes I want sorrow)

Any living thing (well.....except plants) are creatures of emotion. You can't just remove them.

Your quote doesn't make sense. Not because of the argument that the world won't be fun anymore without joy and happiness. But it clearly shows you do not understand what survival of the fittest means.

It does definitely not mean that everyone's on their own. We humans, and alot of other animals, have evolved the ability to care for eachother. This was a huge progress in the evolution. Now the animals were able to take care of others, so increasing avarage lifespan, more offspring etc. Emotions are part of almost every animal. If they were useless nature would already have gotten rid of them. In contrary, they appear to be the key in survival.

Quickly skimmed through this thread because you're all wrong. All of you. No, I don't hate you now, don't worry :)

I'll make this short:
What's our greatest evolutionary advantage? Knowledge
What's the best way of propagating knowledge? By taking care of each other.

Healing an illnesses makes use more "fit", propagating the knowledge of healing a specific illness will therefore aid the fitness of our group (or species), even when we are stagnating when it comes to genetic fitness, it could even be going downhill, our fitness would still increase over time.

Survival of the fittest =/= survival of the genetically most fit individual(s).

So, in short, emotions are cool when it comes to increasing fitness. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have them anyway.

I'll put this in the words of George Carlin as to why technology screws us in survival of the fittest.

actually, I'll link it since it'd be alot to copy and paste then to edit the cursing out...

George Carlin - Fear of Germs

its off of his "You are all diseased" CD/DVD. And the thing is, he makes a flippin point.

Natural Selection is a pipe dream. Need an example?

I need to say nothing more.

I read an entire book on emotions called "How we Decide" and if every person on earth were to be "emotionless", this world would be destroyed, not perfect. Like Bacon said, the first post makes no sense at all. In How we decide, it focuses on, of course, how we decide and how our brain functions with it. Tons of people imply that if there were no emotions, we would have a better sense of decision and like you have stated, be perfect. This statement is completely false. In fact, because of our emotions we can decide, because that's what makes us choose one thing over another. It leads us over one and gives us reasons to choose the other. Some people do have a condition where they do not have feelings at all, because of a specific chemical reaction in the brain. For a decision that would take merely 3 seconds, would take 3 hours for a person with this condition. If emotions never existed, our minds would be corrupt and there would be absolutely no order. Proof from people in experiments that don't have emotions, and the activity tests scientists have took while someone makes a choice.

EMotions get in the way of the path to true victory! And righteousness!
But in all seriousness, I only have emotions cuz it's human nature. I honestly think the world would be a better place without them. On the other hand, it would be sick and disgusting to get rid of them.

If you had no emotions, it would take you hours to decide whether to reply to this post or not.

We wouldn't be wasting our time with things like these, instead we would be bettering our society. No one would complain.

what do you mean by things like these? Explain, I have no idea who or what your post is directed to.

like posting in forums, playing pokemon, things like those. It's directed toward you. I'm not for getting rid of emotion, but I like to change things up sometimes.

Haha okay, i wasn't quite sure. You have a point, but I guess making ourselves entertained is just part of our society :/

What do you mean by 'bettering society'? If we were emotionless, sure, we might not feel the need to be entertained. But on the other hand, we totally wouldn't be able to enjoy anything we made better because there would be no enjoyment. We would ALL be complacent with our current standings, and any improvement doesn't make a difference because we wouldn't feel any way about them!

I think he meant not wasting our time entertaining ourselves and start bettering the society? That's how I portrayed it as, getting rid of emotions like I explained would be the single most idiotic thing someone could do.
