Ruling Switching

Hello everybody!

I have an argument with my friend. We were wondering, if it is possible to retreat/change Pokémon (by a Trainer such as Switch/Pokémon Reversal/Gust of Wind,…) when the player has a full Bench.
For example: I have a full Bench and opponent uses a Gust of Wind. Must/May I change my active Pokémon with one of benched Pokémon or is it impossible? I only know, that I can't not retreat "naturally" (by discarding energy cards and change pokémon), but if it is the case with trainers the same or not?
Thank for answers.

You don't need a "free" slot on your Bench in order to retreat. When you have a full Bench, you just cannot play more Benched Pokemon.

When you retreat, your Active Pokemon does not go to the Bench, and then a new Benched Pokemon comes up. Both are switched simultaneously and instantly.

You're allowed to retreat once per turn (unless an effect like Block prevents that). Switch, Rush In, and similar effects do not count as retreating, and so can be used multiple times if the conditions are met (e.g. you can't play Switch when Gothitelle is in play, nor can you use Rush In when there is a Garbodor with a Tool in play).
