Team Rocket’s Orbeetle from The Glory of Team Rocket

What exactly about Orbeetle fits the theme? I mean I like the pokemon itself, but feels like someone threw a dart at a board and whatever it hit would become the new Team Rocket's -blank-. No one is complaining about creativity, but instead cohesion
UHHHHHH Because Orbeetle is awesome and badass and cool maybe??

... coincidentally one of them had to match one of their favorite pokemon.
If you're referring to me and Murkrow, again, Murkrow IS a Team Rocket Pokemon, and is on the pack wrapper. Whether he's my favorite Pokemon or not, it doesn't matter, because he makes more sense to be in a Team Rocket set than 98% + of Pokemon.

I find it kind of interesting that so many users are focused on the "theme" of expansions now (both for and against, not trying to single anyone out). It used to be an uncommon praise/criticism but ever since Paradise Dragona was revealed it's suddenly become this hotly debated topic under half of all new card reveals it feels like. And just reading this thread has reaffirmed to me that it is a very vague word based almost entirely on vibes and personal preference

Unfortunately the themes of TCG expansions have been vague and poorly defined since day one. What's "jungle" about Mr. Mime? What's "fossil" about Raichu? Only a few times have they actually nailed a concept for an entire set, and those ideas usually were something broad like Gym Heroes/Challenge, VS or 151.

Even when they started doing subsets based around various regions in the second year of Gen 7, they left out a bunch of Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kalos Pokemon in those sets to wedge in Alolan Pokemon who had already had the entire previous year to themselves. I didn't like that then either because when you're touting something as a Johto set (Lost Thunder/Superburst Impact), who wants or needs the Pikipek line in it?

Although the backlash against Paradise Dragona last year was weird to me because that set actually featured like 15 different Dragon Pokemon, they just weren't the big name pseudo/legendary ones like Dragonite and Rayquaza.

I guess Hypno will also have an IR, right? I don't mind Orbeetle, I'll only be "bothered" if that Pokémon has an illustration and another of the same type that makes much more sense in the set doesn't.

Murkrow is in the set. Stop crying

Huh. I think if your opponent is at one prize Blipbug could be good, but way too freaking risky. If you're confident your opponent is not attacking next turn (bossing a 2 retreat or similar). Bottler can help stall out your opponent, but then your opponent will get the goods or just research/Iono. Orbeetle just doesn't seem good enough as a Stage 2.

...Corvisquire. Like lets be serious for a sec Orbeetle doesnt match for whatever x reason (I hope its not the nonsense from the 90s of all bug type pokemon are lame or something) but the bird does because it looks "sick", also failing to see how that describes team rocket at all but whatever. Either way pardon us for not taking that one seriously

Good for them? And people should be able to criticize them without being attacked for being "Genwunners" or "always complaining" because Gen 1-2 characters aren't using Gen 1-2 Pokemon in a set intentionally posturing itself as promoting Gen 1-2 characters. Wild concept I know.
Who th is promoting that. Literally the first thing they did was hey have a TR's Spidops just so you know we're not limiting this particular "Trainer" to 2 generations we are gonna explore beyond that. And yes you can criticize but when it's clearly not gonna go your favor in this particular subject (if you look at the history for a sec) kinda we have to let go yk. And if certain accounts all they do here is complaining I think it's fair to see how much that exhaust others

I loved the cards, I loved the idea (orbeetle is sooo rocket, so cool) and the alternative art.
.
PS.: In all fandom, pokemon specially theres is a lot of people that always want the same thing in an eternal loop, they seem desperate to relive the feeling of a past that never comes back... genwunners are a big market and sometimes tpci listens to them too much and ruins the new stuff... I love new ideas, I love the imperfection and weirdness in Pokémon designs, that's what makes Pokémon cool and keeps the franchise interesting, after all.

For the folks that are hung up on what can constitute a <Team Rocket> Pokémon I would love for you to go back and explore the whole series in its entirety. Honestly, as someone who started with Gen 2 and played games in all gens and been an avid TCG player I am excited by the inclusion of more recent Pokémon into a new and exciting framework. Take deep breath and welcome back to a fandom and culture that has been evolving for decades now.

Your guy just talked about changing and "updating" the lore, so why not change or update the lore for Eternatus to make him also a Team Rocket Pokemon?
I'm throwing out random Pokemon, just like Orbeetle was thrown as a random Pokemon. At least the ones I mentioned have some kind of dark or sinister theme to them. Corvisquire and Corviknight are Ravens. They fit the dark theme (again, wasted on Hop). They like snakes, why not Sandaconda? Perrserker is a form of Meowth and Persian, both very Team Rockety Pokemon, it would only make sense to also have a Perrserker in another region. I don't see how my suggestions make less sense than Orbeetle.
Yes and Orbeetle also have a dark and sinister theme to it. It has a permanently intimidating face. It has psychic powers that makes it capable of levitation and mind control. It's practically based on the Mad Scientist villain archetype, of which Team Rocket has in numbers (they are even elite members in the games!).

A theme isn't just made out of looks. It's also everything else surrounding it. If you look a little, JUST a little, past the superficial "dark or sinister theme" you suggested, Orbeetle is one of if not the best new Pokemon to put into Team Rocket.

The comment section is always so predictable. Not literally ash's charizard? Boo hoo another shit set. Literally Cynthia's Garchomp SIR? Oh no it doesn't look exactly like I expected, what a shit set.

It's like a lot of you guys deliberately want to be unhappy about everything that gets released.
So true, why don't we mainly focus on what it can do and how cool it looks rather than just picking apart everything that is wrong with it.
