Hey guys, SL here. It's that time of the year again: Christmas! This is easily my favorite Holiday; the food, the family, the bad movies on ABC Family, it's all magical. Since my love for Christmas knows no bounds, I wanted to ask you guys about it. What are some of your holiday traditions? What kind of places do you go and what kind of food do you eat? What are some presents that you'd like? What does Christmas mean to you? If you don't celebrate Christmas, then what do you practice instead? Feel free to discuss it here.

~ Happy Holidays!

Christmas...

In one too many circles this has come to:
"I'm gonna pop some tags"

Giving may be the true theme, but overwhelming consumerism is the true universalizing factor here. I love presents haha, as a non-Christian I am honestly not celebrating this holiday for the correct religious purpose in any manner. Hopefully the moral constructs of altruism are well represented in my actions this holiday season. As far as traditions go... Well party after party LOL.

I'm Christian, so that's the main reason I celebrate Christmas. But other than that I have family, food and presents.

The places we go to are family member's houses.

We usually eat turkey, honey glazed ham, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, ect. Crap, now I'm hungry.

I am personally a Christian and enjoy all the food and, yes, the presents but I always take the time to think about the true meaning of Christmas. As for traditions I have to sit in a laundry room for an hour with my siblings on Christmas morning while my parents and grandparents laugh about how much we should be anticipating getting out to the front room. I also like mashed potatoes...a lot.

I'm actually feeling pretty disheartened about this Christmas season so far.

I remember back in 2008 when I was goin' on an artistic high, drawing comics, and portraits and really working my Spirit, and I wrapped it all up when I watched Kung-Fu Panda and got a little bit closer to the meaning of life... wow!

But that year is long gone, and most of my Christmas's have lacked that mystical benevolence that excites me so much. I'll admit, though. 2010 saw some ONE good drawing come out, during the WHOLE year. And 2011 was when I did more cardio exercise. Hmm..../

Oh boi it's Christmas.
Yeah. Best time of the year in the best season. I love Christmas shopping, I love giving people gifts. Gah, I jut love Christmas.
Happy Holidays peeps.

I'll leave you guys with this....

I can't believe I listened to the entirety of that medley... haha.

I love Christmas! Although I do not have a similar love for snow, it's a great time to listen to the songs we only get to listen to in December, drink egg nog and hot chocolates, and participate in winter fun like sledding and snowboarding! I built an igloo once as well... that was fun. Decorating the house is always a good time, and finding which bulb is burnt out in the bunch on the Christmas tree!

As for what I'm doing, a lot of my family will actually be at my Christmas celebration this year, and I'm sure there will be some festivities going on around campus (I'd hope), so it's looking to be a very fun one this year.

I love Christmas. Halloween will always be my favorite, but Christmas trees are really great, as are LED lights, snow, and stockings.
Stockings are bomb.

I really like chirstmas time. even though i know im not getting anything this year it'll still be great. I enjoy just being around family and stuff like that.

I believe in god, i feel like there are too many things we just can't explain. miracles, if you will. I just can't believe that everything 'just is'. I believe jesus was more than likely the son of god or an achemist.(im joking there a lot with the alchemy)

but yeah i guess christmas has lost a lot of value as with everything else in the world. Or at least changed meanings. I mean for years now even athiests and jewish put up trees. like a few of my friends are athiest or something along those lines but still do christmas stuff and whatnot.

2012.

I like Christmas, but it does get a little awkward because of some family members. To be honest I also don't want anything for Christmas, as nothing has caught my eye. I also hope that it actually snows this year, unlike last >:[ after that winter, we went into a (literally) 100 degree summer.

I have a love-hate relationship with Christmas, and have for over a decade now. Each yeah, I try and make the most of the holiday, but I'm always happy once Boxing Day rolls around.

I have a large family, so Christmas has always been split up into multiples each year. I have one family celebration the Sunday before Christmas (unless that falls too close in which case it's two weeks before), 2 on Christmas Eve, 2 on Christmas Day, and some years some extra ones tossed in for visiting relatives. I love celebrating and being with my family, great food, great fun. Now that I'm living abroad, this togetherness feels like it will be even more meaningful for me, since I now spend most of the year an ocean away from my relatives.

On the other hand, I hate the gift-giving aspect of Christmas, absolutely cannot stand it. I really wish that my family would just give it up, except for the kids, and make Christmas into a celebration of family and togetherness. I always used to love giving gifts, because I was able to be really unique and creative in thinking up good gifts for everyone, but now that we're all older and increasing digital, it's very difficult. What kind of gifts do you get for someone whose biggest hobbies now are watching recorded TV shows on DVR and playing Facebook games? For my generation of the family, we're all older and with jobs and money of our own, so we all have the tendency to buy the things that we want and need on our own. For the older generation, they already have houses full of things and traditional types of gifts have all been used before and feel stale. Add on top of that the fact that I've always been terrible about receiving gifts, even when I was a kid. There's just something that makes me uncomfortable about receiving things from others, even more so for the past decade that I've been an adult.

I will say, though, that not working retail anymore has done wonders for my ability to tolerate the holiday season. I was getting really tired of the constant holiday music starting in November/October, customers being offended by me saying "Happy Holidays," pushy people about sales and coupons, customers asking me for gift suggestions. The break from that is giving me more time to meditate on the good of the holiday season, and the distance from my family should make the celebrations all the sweeter. If only we could just forget about the stupid gifts thing, I'd be happy as a clam. And clams are really happy, in case you didn't know.
