Pokemon "The Catch"

Does anyone remember pokemon's famous slogan? Of course we all know it. "Gotta catch 'em all." but do you think it would be possible to do that in the next few years? For every new generation, it would be harder to complete all the pokemon. Assuming that after 10 years, we'd have 986 pokemon, how are we going to catch that many? The slogan will either change in time, or they will stop coining new pokemon, it's sad either way.

The franchise was "Gotta catch 'em all" because that insperided kids to buy the games, because they had to "Cath them all". Pokemon won't stop making new pokemon. In daimond and pearl you can cath them all. That is why Darkrai will be givin away.

Cathing pokemon doesn't sound nice, is this some disease?
Nah, coz everybody will have already got the previous ones in wait for a new gen. Only new players will find it difficult.

Catching Pokemon is easy for the experienced trainers. Honestly 1000+ Pokemon would make the games more challenging for the experienced players.

Has anybody noticed that the slogan has pretty much disappeared somewhere around the middle of the 3rd generation? Nevertheless, the mindset is still present in a lot of people my age who got into Pokémon D/P when they heard the franchise was still alive. One guy I met had managed to get all of them (I think even including the ones beyond #490) in roughly 6 months, and he's put the game away.

If Nintendo keep on releasing these event exclusive Pokemon then it's going to become near impossible without the aid of a cheating device (which kind of ruins the challenge). Back in the days of RBY and GSC the only truly tricky ones were Mew and Celebi, but now there seems to be around ten event exclusives out there. Ah well. At least we got the GTS to speed things up.

If Nintendo already made a god-like pokemon like arceus, the strongest of all pokemon, how will they make more powerful legendary pokemon?

They'll just have to get more creative. :p

I know many people who have probably gotten everything so far now. Even my friend who used to work at Gamestop. They'll never completely change the slogan/motto/etc., but it has died down considerably.

dmaster out.

Bacon, the GTS doesn't help speed anything up. You still have to have seen that Pokémon to get it from the GTS.

They stopped using the "Gotta Catch 'em All!" slogan at the start of the third generation because you could no longer "catch 'em all" using just Ruby & Sapphire. We couldn't "catch 'em all" until FRLG was released, like what, 3 years later?

Just a year PMJ!:p Not too sure of that though, I mean if Ex ruby/sapphire was released in 2003, and FRLG in, 2004, I conclude that...never mind.

On topic: It's a marketing strategy I tell you. They want to force you to buy all their games, unless you have a link cable though.:p

I actually find it funny that Ash hasn't caught them all. That was the slogan and stuff. But did he give up? Maybe not enough pokeballs...

I've never tried or wanted to "Catch 'em all" as I dislike a good portion of the Pokémon population and never want to train them, hence why I liked DPs "See 'em all" approach to completing the 'Dex.

When series titles became apart of "Pokemon" it would have been to long to also include "Gotta Catch 'em all". "Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Gotta catch 'em all" is just to long.

But what about "Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Special Pikachu Edition Gotta Catch 'em All"? The full name for the Yellow version, Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition is already pretty darn long for a name.

You're right! It would take Ruby, Sapphire, Colosseum, FireRed, and LeafGreen to get all of the normally obtainable ones. I guess the novelty of getting surprise Pokémon like Mew and Celebi would fade away by then too, as their numbers began to increase.

Seeing the case of that guy I met, I think the "Gotta catch 'em all!" mindset is less productive than the battling part of it though, since once someone DOES get them all, they have no incentive to keep playing. That's probably why so many people I knew who used to play Pokémon have hung up their Poké Ball belts for good: Because they've already caught them all for their time and moved on to another game series. (In the case of my high school friends, they just played Diablo 2 online up until graduation.)
