Dude, come down. If you want it in your avatar he gave you the wrong url yes. It needs to be the direct link to the image not the IMG URL.
That is the corrwect URL I tested it in my browser. So you should be good to go.
Next time Spec, if they want it for there avatar, give them the image direct link instead of the url which makes the image appear on the page, that ones for banners, UB's or just to put in posts or comments.

I got his on Spec. I can do it. I can also make stuff like this for banners if anyone is interested in stuff sticking off the edges or transparentcy:
