It's always confused me that they chose to spell it like considering the amount of tails it has, it is what it is though

I've always seen it like this: Ninetales has 9 tails, but maybe it also has a tale to tell for each tail that has been pulled, since it lays a 10,000 (I think) year curse on anyone who pulls them.
